I wasn't a big fan of the 2nd book of the Young Elites series but this last book The Midnight Star was better to me. Without spoiling anything I appreciated the redemption of some characters and how strong their bonds are in the end.
I wasn't a big fan of the 2nd book of the Young Elites series but this last book The Midnight Star was better to me. Without spoiling anything I appreciated the redemption of some characters and how strong their bonds are in the end.
Here's the books I'm currently reading
- The Midnight Star by Marie Lu
- Clara's War by Clara Kramer
- Peony Dreadful by Nancy Warren
- Mosaics and Magic by Nancy Warren
2nd book completed during #SuperSeptember Readathon @Andrew65 This is the 3rd book in this trilogy. First book I hated that main character but the author was amazing in giving us a chance to know her better. Book 2 was fantastic and the conclusion was sad but didn‘t disappoint me. But it was so sadπ’I really liked this world and it has many similarities with Bone Witch is some characters magic system and some actions, too similarπ³4βοΈ
No one can create an imaginary world quite like Marie Lu. This was the best in the trilogy. If you are interested in a fantasy world where the superheroes are hunted, then read The Young Elites. In this satisfying conclusion, the enemies group together to save the world. #SeriesRead2022 @TheSpineView
Something about this series spoke directly to me, and I feel like I am in shock from the force of it. I feel like I finally found the series that gave me the truly evil MC I have been looking for. It was honestly so FUN to be in the shoes of the villain and WIN. To get what you want, circumstances be damned. And then this final book - the inevitable end I knew always had to be coming. It was a punch straight to the heart.
I'm going to give this book the same rating as the other 2. This was all around an okay series. It wasn't that good, wasn't bad tho either. It had a lot of the same old same old. The ending of this one did have my tearing up a bit at the end. But it was just okay.
A rather anticlimactic ending to a dark YA fantasy series...but I‘d still be intrigued to see the concept play out in a television series.

I really liked the way the author wrote this book and series, her choice of words are so well put and descriptive. Even the way she sets the scene makes it feel as if I were there myself. The way she expresses Adelina's emotions explains why she can be very stubborn or frustrating, since she continuously struggles throughout the series, even if she achieved her goal.
βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ I have...emotions. This series has been such a ride, I‘m so sad to see it end! Though, I do wish this book had been just a biiiit longer!
Book 2 bored me a bit, but this last book brought me back! It's a good ending to the series, and a good ending for our complicated White Wolf.
Perfect ending to the trilogy. I wish it ended differently though, but then again, just like life, you can get all you want.
The final Young Elites book is just so-so for me. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either. I lost interest at times, but there were moments that held my interest. I thought the story wrapped up nicely the way she went with it, but I am glad to be done the series to move onto something else.
Such an awesome book series sorry to have to put this world of characters down. This is such an amazing story. I went through so many emotions reading this series and was left satisfied with the way she ended it.
#NOSPOILERS #SERIESREVIEW I absolutely loved this book series! Upon opening the book, and reading the summary, something in my head just clicked...saying, "finally! a character I can sympathize with!" The book is astonishingly well written, filled to the brim with details, plot twists, character depth...just a great story. Loved the very first book. (There are, however, minor curses if anyone is worried about that). Well done, Lu! :) 10/10
THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING I EXPECTED AND MORE!
The plot changes drastically and i've loved it! It's like the characters know what's really important and decide what to do about *THAT PROBLEM* together. I loved every character, every twist, every word. And Magiano... I love you with my entire heart. Yeap.
Idk what to say about this trilogy, YOU HAVE TO READ IT. I didn't like any Marie Lu's book, and then i read this trilogy π

When I started this series, I had no idea how deeply it would touch my heart. And now that I've finished it, I feel like I've lost a close friend.
I'm on page 199 of The Midnight Star and this book is definitely not disappointing me. It's been a long time since I read The Young Elites and The Rose Society. To the point where I hardly remember what had actually happened, but something I do remember is how greatly I identified with the main character, Adelina. That still rings true with The Midnight Star. π
I got a blanket, sweatpants, some tea and NO work tomorrow, so guess who is planning to devour this book?
That's right. It's me.
"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
Adelina, probably.

Oh lord, the ending of this did a number on my heart. I really appreciate the direction the author took this in, and did it in a way that didn't feel ... calculated or something, like it easily could have been. It's powerful and beautiful and a smart way to finish up this trilogy. Also it's always great when an author can make you care about someone who is really really bad most of the time. 4/5 βοΈ
the whole world is crap and my weekend was way too short, time to read until I absolutely have to go to bed so I can get up tomorrow and think about Trump all fucking day wheeeeeee hooray yeehaw working in the news business is so great brb diving into a volcano #nowreading
I am SO DISTRAUGHT THAT THIS SERIES IS OVER. Beautiful, flawed, complex characters who reach out from the pages and don't let you go, an exquisitely-crafted world and mythology - I cannot praise Marie Lu enough for this trilogy. #themidnightstar #marielu
I got no reading done in between trick-or-treaters, and I froze my toes off. (And had a little punk say "I don't /like/ these," and promptly drop the crackers on the ground.) Now I'm home and snuggled and ready to take on this finale. #themidnightstar #marielu #theyoungelites
I wonder how much reading I can get done in between handing out treats to the trick-or-treaters... #themidnightstar #marielu #theyoungelites
The Young Elites, book three.
The final installment in the trilogy starts with Adelina ruling her conquered lands through fear and cruelty. The more she uses her powers, the more she is pulled into darkness and the more her illusions strike back at her. When a new danger appears, Adelina reluctantly joins forces with the Daggers.
A thrilling and satisfying end to a dark and twisted trilogy.
Enjoying one last night of reading with this view
Starting The Midnight Star this morning and wondering what my odds are of finishing the 4ish other books I had planned for vacation by Friday... not great probably but 3 books finished so far isn't too bad π
This book was hard to begin, but easy to finish. Worth the read one hundred percent.
The problem with following up a masterful heroine to villain transition in a new novel is how terribly hard it is to read the villain's perspective when you're no longer rooting for her. It becomes a touch wearisome. I'm only a few chapters in and I'm having to take a break because it feels a little like trudging through mud. I'll return to it and post a full review soon.
Just look at that gorgeous starry cover π

Another recent purchase! I was actually at a signing for this book and didn't buy a signed copy that day, but the shop still had some left last weekend so I finally completed my collection of this series! I just love Marie Lu's creativity and thoughts on the writing process.

An amazing ending to an amazing series. I loved this book immensely and I'm so sad to say goodbye to these characters. This book left me wanting more of this world, but it also left me satisfied and content. If you haven't read this series yet, pick it up. You'll love it!
I love Adelina as a villain so I was almost sad to see her have a redemption arc but it was done very well. My only qualm is that the romance between she and Magiano doesnt always work because she is so dang crooked.
So sad this is the end of the trilogy. Thought this was an interesting way to bring everyone together one last time. Such a great series - highly recommend it!

Wow, what a bittersweet and very fitting ending for the Young Elites and their anti-heroine Adelina. I did not know how the final confrontation was going to go down, but in retrospect it feels like the way it happened was the only way it could have happened, if that makes any sense. Very much looking forward to Marie Lu's new works and reading the Legend trilogy that's been sitting patiently on my Kindle for a shamefully long time.
So excited to start the 3rd installment of Young Elites! ππππππππ
I wish these two could've met... BFF's for sure. Levana + Adelina 4 ever!
This was an amazing conclusion to one of my favorite trilogies! It did not disappoint at all. If you love Adelina, this won't let you down. Easily a 5 star read βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ

A pretty good conclusion to The Young Elites series. I liked how Adelina's relationship with her sister remained central in this final volume. Readers' satisfaction with The Midnight Star will likely hinge on whether they want to see Adelina redeemed or committed to her dark path. Full review: https://goo.gl/kpgXSY
#currentlyreading π° I'm anxious about how this series is going to wrap up. Super excited about it though!
Book challenge day 6 (Elegy/tragedy) - this whole series was a bit of a tragedy. Poor vicious, angry, hurt, powerful Adelina - sharing her terror and trying to save in turn. These books were all a bit of roller coasters for me, especially this last book, and I had a serious love/hate relationship with them.
How did you guys feel about Adelina? Love her or hate her?
