I think this would have been a great read but alas, I chose the audio version which I found confusing and hard to follow. There wasn‘t a break between characters and/or past/present which left me often confused. Kinda bummed but moving on. Curious to discuss at book club next week.

I‘d been wanting to read this book since the beginning of COVID & virtual author events. This is an amazing story of four individuals in Paris. How each person‘s story unfolds and how they all come together is very profound. This was a great time to read the book after all my other Paris readings because I recognized some places and streets.

A really quick read, well written, and well told. The stories of 4 different protagonists end up colliding in a moment in the last pages. Glad I finally got around to this BOTM treasure! Highly recommend and it‘s so quick, less than a day of reading! Enjoyable European world to lose myself in as well!

After having a reading slump in 2021, I am slowly getting my reading back! I read 11 books in January (2 volumes of Something is Killing the Children, one not pictured).

4-books, 1 audio, and the rest were physical.

4 non-fiction, which I am very happy about!

The Paris Hours was my favourite, the only so-so read of the month was Lumberjanes.

All-in-all, a good month. On to February!

The overall story was good and included a few surprises. There were some intertwining stories that I kept getting confused. The narrator was ok. #audio #christyread

The book follows the stories of four characters: Souren, Camille, Guillame, & Jean-Paul. While this seemed an interesting approach, overall, I found it difficult to follow. Attempting to include big name historical figures took away from the storytelling. It was clunky & did not affect the story in anyway. I think it would have been better without them. ⤵️

An escape to Paris in the 1920‘s on this Saturday morning.

Little Dog and I have finished my last book of October. Well, I finished it and she slept, as usual.

I enjoyed this really well-written historical fiction. I love the multiple POVs, all of the backstory we get for the main characters, the way the action all happens in one day in Paris, and all of the characters, strangers to each other, meet at the end. I did kind of wish for MORE at the end, though.

Went back to Guelph to support my mom and sisters and started reading The Paris Hours. It fits nicely in with my mom's decorative pillows!

This is just what I needed to get me out of my huge reading slump. Perfectly paced, wonderfully rich characters, and alluring atmosphere. So much heartwrenching emotion packed into just under 250 pages, giving me both happy and sad tears all at once. #BOTM really did well with this pick!

I liked this a lot. But there were some things I didn't like. I'm torn on this. For now I'm giving it 3.5 stars but I may go to 4 after some more reflection.

I needed a piece of Paris and this delivered. Four souls with complicated lives, who all come into contact with each other. Heartfelt, sorrowful. Just what I needed.

I loved this! Anything 1920s Paris is my jam. I loved the setting, the one day timeline, and the different storylines. Those parts reminded me of another fav of mine 2 am at the Cats Pajamas. #buzzwordbookathon

I'm a huge historical fiction fan. At first I thought this novel was a bit discombulated with a wide variety of characters several very famous. Lots of recall keeping everyone straight and their story line. Fabulous culmination of the novel brings the characters together and left me feeling very satisfied with another glimpse into Parisian life during WWI and the 20's.

While I have a lovely espresso machine, sadly I have no Pain au Chocolat.
My only complaint is the Open Ending. Honestly you could have a another book about what happens after this day. However the author leaves it to your imagination. Leaves me with unfinished feeling. Also left me with a desire to learn more about the celebrities you get a glimpse of in Paris 1927. 🥐☕🇫🇷

My mom has always talked about going to Paris with me, so it felt right to have a French themed reading day with stay-at-home book #11 on Mother's Day.

Journal, new book, and book on standby for when I need a change, all out at once? Sounds about right. (Not pictured are the eBook and eAudiobook on my phone) #toomanybooks

Today‘s #MayARC is available now (5/5 release date). I‘ve read George‘s work before and enjoyed it a lot so am looking forward to this one.

So much about this to appreciate: well written narratives, moving characters driven by love, loss, longing.

I am finally making some progress in this book. It is lovely and delightful. The quarantine fog + extra work (search committees) has prevented me from focusing on reading. I hope May will be better to my reading goals. Here is a picture of my 14lb ball of floof, Sophie for your enjoyment.

I wish I knew someone who just finished this one too because I want to talk to someone about the ending!!! So good!

This was an interesting read. We follow four different characters in the course of one day. Each character so unique and interesting. Jasper is going to give this book a crack since I loved it so much 😉 🐶💚

I am a sucker for a book about Paris in the 1920s. This was great because while it had many “cameos” by famous people: Ernest Hemingway, Josephine Baker, Gertrude Stein, Maurice Ravel, Marcel Proust, etc., it is not about them. It‘s a story of belonging, heartbreak, family and hope among other things. It was heartbreaking but I loved it.

If you‘re looking for a new book to read, I HIGHLY recommend The Paris Hours by Alex George. The novel interweaves the stories of four individuals living in Paris during 1927. The writing is beautiful, the characters are engaging and it‘s a quick read at 253 pages. LOVE this book! Got my copy from BOTM but it‘s officially out on May 5th.

Really beautiful writing. It transports you to a different time and place, which we could probably all use a little of right now. It isn't all croissants and celebrities, though, there's layers of sadness and tragedy, too. An all around wonderful read.

Glad I grabbed this last minute add-on from #botm I almost completely overlooked it.

I would give this better than so-so but it wasn‘t a sure pick. There were so many characters I honestly couldn‘t keep them straight. It all eventually made sense, but grab a pen and notepad before you pick this one up.

Current #BOTM pick. This was beautifully written. It takes place in Paris in the 1920s and has some famous characters. I loved the way the character‘s stories intertwined and eventually came together. The story does well examining the heavy burdens people carry. There are secrets and experiences that shape us all. Everyone has to make his or her own way while learning to live with and make sense of these things.

Sigh. I adored this novel that takes place in 1927 Paris. Four delightful characters living in Paris are followed during a single day culminating in one of the most satisfying endings I‘ve read in a long while. If you liked 2am at the Cat‘s Pajamas, this is a book for you. I adored the author‘s last novel, Setting Free the Kites and this one was fabulous as well. #ARC #netgalley

Sitting on the porch reading at dusk is about the most content I‘ve been in a while.

I read this 250-page book fairly slow for me — it‘s one of those special books you come across every now & then that is meant to be savored & not devoured. There are 4 different main characters with alternating chapters set in the beautiful streets of Paris. Along the way we get glimpses of Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Josephine Baker & a few other famous people who resided in Paris in the 1920s. Beautifully written, highly recommended. 5⭐️
