I‘m all about a book with an Austin, TX setting - such a fun city. I‘ve been reading some heavy books of late and this one was just fun. You know you‘re in for laughs when in the opening scene the MC is flagrantly cheated on by a cad and her immediate revenge is to befriend not just one but two of said cad‘s other lovers.
love a Black woman and Black Korean man in tech as our MCs. relationship was cute, realized I read this series all out of order and over the course of almost 2 years. but it‘s your basic rom com. so that means I enjoyed it throughly.

Such a fun audiobook!! Character growth combined with relationship development and witty humor, couldn‘t help myself but love following along! An easy listen and not to mention another book that writes of both the amazingness and challenges for women in STEM ❤️ I hope there will be more to come by Farrah Rochon.
#wintersolsticeswap #wss went out priority mail today and should arrive on Monday @sprainedbrain @Chrissyreadit ❄️✨🎉🌲🔥
In other #bookmail news, I got my #lmpbc book for last round back. It was fun to read all your notes. Looks like we all felt sort of meh about this one - had some good things (trio of women friends, poc women in tech) but was very slow and the main couple was missing some chemistry. @cwarnier @Annie1215 @BethM

Ok ladies I got The Boyfriend Project in my mailbox earlier this week. I am finishing up a different book, and then will start on this. Hopefully I get it done before the end of October.
Hoping the munchkin sleeps for at least an hour so I can have some reading time!
Just finished this for #lmpbc and it will shortly be on its way to its next home.
Some of the plot points felt a bit disjointed to me but I appreciated the focus on women of color in tech!
Checking this off my #bookspinbingo list
I spent my day at a really cool outdoor food festival getting a sunburn and now I‘m pretending it‘s fall while I kick off my next #lmpbc read
Finished my #lmpbc book last week but had to take a few days to figure out my final thoughts.
Overall I enjoyed this. It‘s a fast light romance as long as you don‘t look too closely. For me I prefer my romances to dig a little deeper so it‘s a low pick. I don‘t want to spoil anything for the rest of the group so I‘ll end with this: I liked it well enough to read book 2 in the series, but I‘ll be borrowing it from the library instead of buying.
Hello Romance! ❤️ Here are some contemporary romance novels at the top of my TBR. Have you read any of these? What would you prefer to read first? I'll tag the rest in the comments below. #lmpbc #round12

This was cute but not memorable. I liked all the charactors (except Keighleigh obvs!) and the look "behind the scenes" at a tech giant. Daniel's job was especially interesting. Bottom line: it was enjoyable but predictable. Taylor's book is next but I don't feel much motivation to pick it up. London was my favorite so when her story comes out I may be more interested. Soft pick.
The idea seemed great. I just did not like either of the MCs. The dialogue was that unnatural trying to be witty type.(has anyone ever high fived someone for a witty comment?) The three women have the same personality. Just didn‘t work for me. #bookspinbingo done though!
Picked this up at a used bookstore on a whim. The cover was eye catching. Now I hope the story within captures my attention!
I‘m trying to reacquaint myself with my TBR while on a book buying ban for the month.

A cute romance. A girl had a public and terrible breakup but makes some new friends and comes up with a plan. Which of course doesn‘t work.
I‘m so happy that I gave this a second shot. Fun, enjoyable, light read!
Thank you @BennettBookworm for the book and the adorable bookmark! Luchi is indifferent as it‘s not edible. But I am excited. This book couldn‘t have come at a better time.
The Boyfriend Project is the perfect uplifting rom com about strong women.
I absolutely loved The Boyfriend Project. I read a chapter sampler on NetGalley and have been impatiently waiting to read the rest of the book.
The Boyfriend Project is an own voices novel.
I listened to the audiobook and Je Nie Flemming did an excellent job narrating.

These books are ready for a new home! Time to make space on my shelves!
The City We Became was actually sent to me twice by mistake so that‘s new, and The Ensemble is a retired library book; otherwise they are all *like new* and beautiful.
Comment with which book you‘d fancy and on Friday 10/16 I‘ll choose six people at random to get #bookmail! #giveaway
Last week's episode of the Unabridged Ppdcast features our conversation with Farrah Rochon, author of The Boyfriend Project. This wonderful contemporary romance dives into female friendships, Black women in technology, and the importance of mentoring young people. Our wide-ranging discussion also covers her writing career, her romance recommendations, and (in our Give Me One segment) some of our favorite Broadway musicals.
A contemporary, light romcom set in the tech world of Austin, Texas. I enjoyed the strong female friendships and the office romance. There was enough of a mystery to move the plot along and provide tension between the main characters. It seems this is the first in a series and I'll definitely check out the next one.
Luuuuurved this contemporary romance and can‘t wait to see the author at the Decatur Book Festival romance panel next month!!!

I decided to bail. I‘m halfway through and bored with where this is going. I love the main character and that she‘s a smart woman in a tech field, but I cannot get into the story.
Maybe I‘ll pick the book up another time.
I am not feeling this one and I feel like I am only half paying attention, but I am determined to finish.
On the surface this seemed to have all of the ingredients I would normally love, but something about it just didn't click for me. I loved to see the strong female friendships and the fact that the lead is a successful black woman in the tech industry, but the rest of the story and the chemistry between the two MCs fell a bit flat.
Was reluctant to read it, but so glad that it happened. Lighter read than I expected. Loved that the three women bonded and became friends rather than fight each other. Can't wait until we get the rest of the series
3/5. Let me preface this by saying I had really high hopes for this one but for me it DRAGGED. I loved the diversity in the characters and really liked the female lead but other than that the story was really boring and predictable. Granted, I don‘t usually love a romance book but still. Not my favorite.
I really wanted to like this! Unpopular opinion.
1. The storylines felt incompatible to me. Samiah and her friends were so relatable and realistic. Daniel‘s story felt outlandish.
2. He also felt whiny to me. Keeping secrets is hard, we get it.
3. I hate when romance writers say, “It felt just like a rom-com!” 🙄
Also, and this isn‘t their fault, just bad timing, but...nobody in this book was social distancing...
Farrah Rochon's The Boyfriend Project is a smart, forward-thinking, genre-bending contemporary romance. Centered on the relationship between new co-workers at Trendsetters, a progressive IT company, The Boyfriend Project has plenty of steam, a compelling plot, and some fabulous characters. ⬇️
Yay! I finally finished this one last night. I don't know why it took me a good two weeks to read it. It was definitely me and not the book because overall, it is pretty good. The romance is solid and I like how David and Samiah work in the tech world. That makes for an interesting setting. I'm guessing Taylor's story is next. I may pick that one up.
I enjoyed the heck out of this book. I loved the MCs as well as the side characters. I loved that there was a friendship formed between these ladies when society tries to pit us against each other.
I really enjoyed the storylines as well. I was invested in seeing how everything was going to pan out. It was a lot of fun. I couldn‘t listen to this fast enough.
The romance wasn‘t super steamy but I liked the easy going nature of it. It felt real.
I loved this book so much! It was so emotional, romantic, and captivating 💕 And the hero was definitely not what I had expected!

Money laundering & contemporary romance is an interesting mix, & it worked—mostly. This was fun & cute, overall enjoyable read. LOVE a Black female MC who‘s a tech genius & kicks ass at her job. Would like to know Samiah IRL. Daniel was also a good character, not macho or overbearing. But I never felt super invested in how things would pan out—the crime thing ended lackluster, drama & tech talk was a bit overdone. But a fun light read! 3/5 ⭐️
Samiah reached over and covered her hand. “You know, hon, money isn‘t everything.”
Taylor pulled her hand away. “Says the one with the fancy-ass downtown condo and high-paying tech job.”
[YUP. Pretty easy to say money won‘t make you happy if you‘ve never struggled financially.]
So I realized that in order for me to enjoy contemporary romance something has to actually happen. It can‘t just be a romance with drama thrown in. This book fit the bill! It‘s the first “office” romance I‘ve read. I only started reading contemporary romance within the last year or so.
I really liked this book. Samiah is a Black woman in STEM and she really lays out how hard it is in the field or any field really. Daniel was also a dreamboat👇🏻
