bailedI was prepped to love this, and feel super let down that I didn‘t. I just couldn‘t engage with the story or the characters, which left no reason to keep reading. I just didn‘t care about anything or anyone. Maybe I‘m just not in the mood for high fantasy, but I gave it 200 pages and then gave up. Too much of a waste of reading time…
so-soThank God for the audiobook, if not I would never finish it. It had a very engaging prologue and then it all died out as the chapter went on and on. 90% of the book, the survivor of the battle just wander around finding people for their journey. Lastly, the characters are boring, the plot is flat, the actions almost non existent except the beginning and the end. So far from my expectation 😞😞
so-soI liked the premise: mismatch group of people who are trying to save the world. Characters felt a bit flat - I liked them but didn't love.
I love atmospheric books but this was a bit tasteless. This had some hilarious sentences but I would have loved to feel more.
It makes always reading a bit more interesting if there is some clear goal where things are aiming to.

bailedI wanted to love this book. I like the author and I'm a huge fan of high fantasy. I got both the hardbound and the audiobook from the library. The audio sped things up for me but I had to DNF around the 80% mark. I just found that I didn't care about any of the characters or their quest. The world-building isn't complicated and there is a nicely diverse cast of characters but...it was just so boring. Maybe there is a great plot twist at the end?

I didn‘t care for the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard when it originally came out, and I don‘t think I read beyond the first book, but I am totally open to giving her new series a fresh shot.
so-soYeah I know I‘m not going to be with the majority with this one at all. Bought it last year and I started it the day it released. And I just finished it today. That‘s a long time in the way I read. Just couldn‘t connect to the plot. Characters were legit the only reason I hung in there. #100readschallenge
pickI‘ve not felt like reading fantasy for a long time, just fell out of love with it. But you know how your reading brain just says now is the day 😁 ( oh and just because I wasn‘t reading it didn‘t mean I wasn‘t buying it!) obviously.
I really enjoyed this and can tell it‘s going to be a great trilogy/series! Good cast of characters and the usual good v evil tussle has started.
Already preordered the signed, special edition of number 2.
Last #motherdaughterread for a while. Packing is done, she‘s ready to go back to Uni tomorrow. Half way through her final year!!

so-soI had high hopes for this book. I really enjoyed the Red Queen series by this author. However, I found this book hard to follow…I didn‘t get into it until the last 100 pages. Places and things weren‘t clearly introduced…they were just mentioned, and we are just supposed to know what they are…? Meh.
My current read. I‘m struggling to find time to read lately, and it‘s a real bummer, let me tell ya!
pickWhile it took me months to finish this behemoth I mostly enjoyed the experience. I liked the ragtag found family banding together to oppose Taristan, and the world building was strong. Not sure I‘ll read the next one… well have to see.
pickStarted reading this forever ago, put it down, and finally picked it back up to finish it off. Wasnt a bad book just wasn‘t the right time I guess. I really liked this. Lots of world building and such but the story was interesting with so many character perspectives and a kind of found family thing going on! #bookspinbingo

pickSo excited for this book. I love Victoria aveyard and was thrilled to read a series of hers from the start of it being published. This reads like an old school fantasy saga but faster paced. Loved the characters and the humor. Looking forward to book 2, eventually. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
so-soI just didn't enjoy this book like I thought I would. The idea behind it sounded amazing, but the actual book had a lot of stuff that felt pointless. It might have been building up for the rest of the series, or maybe I just don't care about the characters. Either way, I still finished it and I will probably read the other books in the series, but it isn't one of my favorites.
Love/hate relationship with the Red Queen series but let's see how I feel about this one.
pickI LOVE books where the "heroes" are morally gray (or even evil!), so right away I knew this book was for me!
The ragtag group trying to save the world (before killing each other) are a pirate's daughter, a noble squire, an honorable 'immortal', an assassin, a witch, a bounty hunter, and a forger who used to be a priest.
Promises are made. Loyalties tested. Trust broken.
And now I have to wait for book two. ?

Today's audiobook project is putting pin backs on about 300 leather buttons for #Studio42Books.
The world has gotten slightly better and things are opening back up, which means we'll be doing shows again soon. 🤞
I'm about halfway through this audiobook and the story is starting to come together. This is one case where I really wish there was a different narrator for the parts that focus on different characters, because I have gotten a bit lost a time or two.

My partner surprised me with a wooden "puzzle" he made for me to use in photos for rating books! So, I'm listening to my current audiobook and painting it sparkly.
When you are moving in a week so you start furiously packing the whole house and accidentally pack your current read and don‘t know which box you put it in!! 😭😭😂😂 (I think I‘ll buy the ebook too)
Currently reading Realm Breaker for a book club on Instagram ran by @thebookkeeperspage and @ChiReader1 💚 It was a rocky start but I am liking it now! A true adventure fantasy read!

pickI am 10 1/2 hours into the #20in4 Readathon. Still have the rest of today and am also off tomorrow, woohoo! Finished this chunky book today. I really enjoyed this one. I think I read somewhere that the author wanted to make a Lord of the Rings type story but with females also. That's how this one feels. A rag tag group comes together to save the Realm. But so much stands in their way. Truly enjoyable.

I loved this more than the Red Queen series. I loved the banter, the villain romance, and the rag tag team. This is a slow build high fantasy novel, but the pay off is soooo good and worth it.

I am such a sucker for maps in fantasy books. They always give me such a warm, cozy feeling. I love the excitement of finding the cities and towns that are talked about in the story. AND THIS MAP IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AND GORGEOUS! 😍📚💕
