I had to give this a minute before I started liking it. My kids are grown, so I was thinking 20 years ago some of these stories he tells would of hit home harder. But then there came the times I laughed out loud. Surprisingly loud. The waiting for luggage story, the puke in the friend's ear story, the bunny in the refrigerator box...I really do like this guy! It's short, entertaining, and at times quite poignant.
Finished my #bookspin this evening and it was ok. I love that he was able to write a book that his son will read when he is older. I liked what he was doing with the train of thought type of writing but found it could get a bit repetitive at times. I was expecting it to either be a bit funnier or full of life lessons. It wasn't a bad book but it was just ok for me.

My view while little guy has his swim lesson for the week. Thirty minutes of solid reading time 😊.
A beautiful warm and sunny day for some backyard reading. Going to start the tagged book for my #BookSpin read while I enjoy a refreshing cold strawberry tea. I think it is pretty neat that Backman was able to write a book for/to his son. I'd love to be able to write a book for my kids!

Here are the winners of the spin for July and the books couldn't be more different 😊. Since both picks are on the shorter side I think I'll try to complete both #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin. I'm going to dive into these once I finish The Lake House (although I'm enjoying it - it is slow going with so little time to read).

Okay. There were some sweet bits.
Book 14
I listened to this compellingly-narrated book by one of my favorite authors, Fredrik Backman. It's a short, charming, funny glimpse into Backman's world and values. If you aren't interested in the author's personality and life, or you don't enjoy trite, feel-good, perspective-type novels, Things My Son Needs to Know about the World isn't for you. âââ
Akuratt ledd meg gjennom denne fantastiske boka så mye at jeg har vondt i kinnene. Flott og rørende god bok fra far til sønn. Veldig veldig morsom og gjenkjennelig.
Another book down the hatch!! I‘m on a roll people 😂! Now this was not a big book at all but one by one of my absolute favourite authors .. this is the 5th book I‘ve read by him!! (Same author as “A man called Ove†and “Beartownâ€). It‘s a funny “dads†perspective talking to his baby boy! Loved it .. and seemed fitting for this year 🥰 of course had to include Pepper since she pestered me through the whole reading of this book 🤪😂ðŸ·
Book club pick. Can I read it in 3 days?
More funny and cute than profound, though the last part made me cry.
Easy and funny book by my fav author. It emphasises how little things matters in life. It sheds light on both the best & annoying part of parenting! It‘s a book that makes you laugh. Some stories are really emotional, but narrated in a honest and humorous way. I listen to this whenever my little girl took nap 😛 3.5🌟

Flew through this one in an hour and a half! I loved it, and I‘m keeping it on my shelves, since I know i will want to reread it one day♥ï¸
Book 7 complete for #BookSpinBonanza
@TheAromaofBooks
I‘ve read and loved Britt-Marie and Ove, so I grabbed this the last time I was at the library (2 months ago!!😱). While this is a fast read and has some cute bits in it that are relatable, it is mostly just ramblings that won‘t interest most people (unless you are his son), at least imo. Although a lot of people love it so what do I know?! 3âï¸
Such a lovely book! I enjoyed all his stories and insights of his own life. Some stories were very heartfelt while others had me laughing out loud. A great way to look at the world.
Normally Backman makes me cry but this book is hilarious!
I love his writing. He‘s one of my favorite authors. This book is so sweet, I wish I could buy it for every father out there. The way he loves his wife too? So heartwarming. #booksbrewsandbooze #thingsmysonneedstoknowabouttheworld #booksbrewsandboozereviews #fredrikbackman
Not my favorite Backman, but short and full of his usual poignant observations and writing. My favorite essay was the IKEA one.
Under 3 hours of laugh out loud advice on parenting, marriage, materialism, friendships and the best explanation I‘ve ever heard on how God can exist despite war. (Hint: humans.)
Get past the first chapter about poop, and you won‘t regret spending 3 hours of your life on this book!

I have loved everything by Backman thus far, but was not impressed by this book. I loved the prologue but then felt like most of the rest of the book was I trying too hard to be funny.
This is a proper timing book. Started this a year ago and pan‘ed it pretty quickly. Now I read it in one day. All in all I would have liked it to be more of a cultural reflection and less of the stereotypical dude-dad/responsible mom.
But the quote above: that‘s gonna be me.

Funny and touching. I laughed and I cried and I just want Backman to write all the things. âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸

Clever and witty and practical! This was a fun read! Though I like his novels more deeply

First book of 2020 complete!
I‘ve become a big Backman fan over the past few years, and his first non-fiction work did nothing to change that. I‘m not a parent, so I‘m not the target audience here, but I appreciate the Gen X nostalgia and humor brought to this volume of advice from father to son.

My first book review of 2020! A light-hearted read to kick off my reading year. Absolutely loved Backman's witty writing!

Librarians are counting down their top 10 books Published in 2019. This my #10. Think I‘ll count down here too.
Frederick Backman writes an open letter to his baby son with various chapters and vignettes, and it's heartfelt and quite funny. It's so relatable, even as someone who doesn't have children yet, but I can see the parallels with my own childhood and watching my sister and brother-in-law raise a daughter. It also shows that so many parents feel the same anxieties, regardless of which country they're from, making this book universal.
“I want you to always remember that you can become whatever you want to become, but that‘s nowhere near as important as knowing that you can be exactly who you are.†â¤ï¸ðŸ’œðŸ’›ðŸ’™
Hubs took the kiddo to a ball game so I could log more reading time. (He's pretty great, not gonna lie.) Loving the summer #24in48!

The world: it‘s beautiful, it‘s flawed, and we are the same. Backman writes another stunning book. âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ without a doubt. I really didn‘t expect it to be so funny! But it‘s also touching, and I don‘t even have kids. He has such a way with words, that readers can‘t help but be awe-inspired.
**Finished it on my trip to the Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia. Pictured above is White Point

I finished this last night and it was lovely from start to finish! Sweet, funny and filled with love all the way through.
Beartown and Us against you are two of my most favourite books, so I‘m really excited to get into this one!
Backman defines what parenthood is like absolutely perfectly. Eleven pages in and I‘m already laughing out loud. 😂😂
Needed something good for the soul. #currentlyreading this book and, of course, popcorn!
