An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed
An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed | Helene Tursten
Don't let her age fool you. Maud may be nearly ninety, but if you cross her, this elderly lady is more sinister than sweet. Just when things have finally cooled down for 88-year-old Maud after the disturbing discovery of a dead body in her apartment in Gothenburg, a couple of detectives return to her doorstep, ruining a perfectly good afternoon. Though Maud deftly dodges their questions with the skill of an Olympic gymnast a fifth of her age, she wonders if suspicion has fallen on her, little old lady that she is. The truth is, ever since Maud was a little girl, death has seemed to follow her. In these six interlocking stories, memories of unfortunate incidents from Maud's past keep bubbling to the surface, each triggered by something around her: an image, a word--even a taste. Meanwhile, certain Problems in the present require immediate attention. Luckily, Maud is no stranger to taking matters into her own hands . . . even if it means she has to get a little blood on them in the process. *Includes cookie recipes*

A huge, heartfelt thanks to my awesome #Litsypenpal @Beck9lol for all this bookish (and snugly) awesomeness! I think we‘re going on five years of friendship there‘s no slowing us down in sight! I‘ll be saving the two Christmas reads for later this year but eager to crack ‘Elderly Lady‘ book two and ‘The Perishing‘ to my TBR! So grateful and thankful for you, Becky and #Litsy for bringing our friendship together. Happy New Year and happy reading!📚

Beck9lol What a great five years of friendship! Happy New Year friend!! 1w

My latest #libraryhaul and a copy of Book Page!

Mskt6891 What is Book Page? The cover looks really interesting but I can't see the details 2w
Graciouswarriorprincess @Mskt6891 It is a monthly newspaper/magazine. My library has it for free. https://www.bookpage.com/ 2w
Mskt6891 Oh nice ☺️ I never see cool stuff like this here in the UK! 2w
BookBabe Oooh! I want that copy of Book Page! I haven‘t been to a library since the pandemic started. Guess it‘s time to venture out to one! We actually have a shiny new gorgeous local library and it‘s been soooooo tempting to go check it out! 1w
Graciouswarriorprincess @BookBabe Send me an email at akallas@loyola.edu with your address and I can mail one to you. 😀 1w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh, Maud, you are a sly, feisty manipulative lady, but also boast a sizable caring heart. An appropriate and entertaining follow up!

Cinfhen I‘ve stacked both books for 2022!! 3w

Murderous Maud is back! I really enjoyed these stories, especially the Christmas element woven throughout, although not as much as An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good- which is pretty much a perfect read. The reader gets glimpses of younger Maud throughout, which is a treat! #WinterGames #MistletoeManiacs @Clwojick

Comforting Christmas murder with Maud, my favorite diabolical little, old lady Swedish serial killer. There's even a gingerbread recipe at the end.

2.5 ⭐️
Maude is an unlikely murderer, which adds a bit of whimsy to the stories. I LOVED the first book! This one makes is quite clear that Maude is simply a sociopath. Also- how can we believe that a woman who barely cared about her family and her one friend suddenly is moved deeply to care about a random black family in South Africa and “save” them? Cringe 😬

Love this latest collection of stories about the adventures of an elderly lady who mayborcmay not be a serial killer. Tons of fun. But start with The Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good (this one begins where tat one ends)

I went in with high expectations and most of them were met, except at the very end. It felt a little too “white savior” for me, but I did enjoy getting a peek into Maud‘s past. Ironically enough, I was talking to my boyfriend about homemade gingerbread houses the day I bought this book, so now we have a recipe!

Honestly, I‘m not sure what to make of this. That said, I really enjoyed the book and think that Maud is such an interesting and compelling protagonist! I believe this is a Swedish series, of which I had never heard of previous till now, but this seems to be a short story in the series. In this story, you get some background info and you just can‘t help but like Maud.
