Eight Perfect Hours
Eight Perfect Hours: A Novel | Lia Louis
I read Eight Perfect Hours in one sitting, in four perfect hours, because I couldnt bear to put it down without knowing the ending. Lia Louis has become a must-buy author for me. Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author In this romantic and heartwarming novel, two strangers meet in chance circumstances during a blizzard and spend one perfect evening together, thinking theyll never see each other again. But fate seems to have different plans. From the acclaimed author of the swoon-worthyrom-com (The Washington Post) Dear Emmie Blue. On a snowy evening in March, thirty-something Noelle Butterby is on her way back from an event at her old college when disaster strikes. With a blizzard closing off roads, she finds herself stranded, alone in her car, without food, drink, or a working charger for her phone. All seems lost until Sam Attwood, a handsome American stranger also trapped in a nearby car, knocks on her window and offers assistance. What follows is eight perfect hours together, until morning arrives and the roads finally clear. The two strangers part, positive theyll never see each other again but fate, it seems, has a different plan. As the two keep serendipitously bumping into one another, they begin to realize that perhaps there truly is no such thing as coincidence. With plenty of charming twists and turns and Lia Louiss bold, standout voice (Gillian McAllister, author of The Good Sister), Eight Perfect Hours is a gorgeously crafted novel that will make you believe in the power of fate.

This is a sweet romance about two people who meet during a lengthy traffic jam in a snowstorm and continue to run into each other, connected in many ways they never imagined. It‘s light and fluffy so don‘t expect anything earth shattering but a nice book to spend time reading. I went into this thinking it was a light, fluffy read, but it‘s not. It was a bit heavier than the marketing led me to believe. The MC is wishy-washy and kind of a doormat for most of the book. It also is a bit repetitive, but, by the end, the MC comes into her own and the ending is hopeful. And I do like the idea of fate linking two people. It might make a good Netflix movie though!

#bookspinbingo - this is my #bookspin for this month

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!!! I have this one stacked, but I have seen some mixed reviews! 3mo

Thank you @BookNAround for my Valentine‘s Day goodies!! I am SUPER excited about these! I almost picked up Eight Perfect Hours at work today. And I love the candy and the card was so sweet! I‘m seriously debating on whether or not sleep is necessary and if I should start one of these right now! Yay! Thanks so much! Also the packaging was just too cute! #SwoonathonSwap

A perfect beach read for the middle of winter. A bit of a novel form of Serendipity, it is light, fun, & adorable. A bit of a slow burn romance & the plot does have it's slow moments, but it's cute & a quick read all the same. There are some less than shining characters in the mix, but there is a good redemption arc. There are also good conversations about mental health. A good & comfortable read that kept me cozy.

Awwww! It's truly incredible how fate weaves a tapestry that links two people two irrevocably. Sam and Noelle's story gives all the feels. This would make a great Netflix film.

I loved this book, but it wasn't centering Christmas like I had assumed. Very sweet story, and I loved that the problems in the story were very grounded and real, and the love element also kept me wondering how it would resolve. #wintergames #teamgamesleighers @StayCurious #bookspinbingo #thefestivereadathon #averymerrybingo #wintercosy #littenlisten #averymerryreadathon #adventathon #merryandbrightreadathon 8 readathons x 8 hrs x 10=640 pts 🔽

I've been hoodwinked. This book is being marketed as a romance that will give you the warm and fuzzies. Honestly, I just felt depressed while reading this. Noelle's life is so sad and she's such a doormat that I had a hard time liking her. Lastly, the ending and the explanation of how Noelle and Sam's destinies become aligned? Freaking depressing. This has nothing on "One Day in December". ☹

The end of this book has me shriek-sobbing with happiness. I LOVE how the concept of destiny was played with here, and all the characters were so fun and well-developed, even Noelle's crapbag ex. Highly recommend. #womensfiction #contemporaryromance

I was looking forward to this. The meet-cute seemed fun and sweet. I read this in one sitting and there was loads I liked - the characters - but it was predictable. Also, I think there was too much going on here and it was an overload that detracted from the story. 3/5

I loved Eight Perfect Hours and highly recommend it to romance readers and women‘s fiction lovers. It has a beautiful love story with a lot of food for thought about caring for your parents, being a good friend, pursuing your dreams and finding the love of your life.

I‘ve been looking forward to reading more from Louis since finishing Dear Emmie Blue last year! I loved this one just as much! Noelle is 32 and the main caretaker for her mother after her stroke. A snowstorm on her way home from a class reunion gives her the titular eight perfect hours with Sam- a chance encounter that leads to life changes for both of them. The characters all come to life and I felt totally connected to them all! Fantastic!!

robinb Oh…I loved this one too…so good!! As was Dear Emmie Blue. 😊 (edited) 9mo

3.5 STARS - This is a charming story about chance meetings between a couple who initially find themselves stranded during a blizzard & spend eight hours together in a car. When the storm ends, they go their separate ways only to find that fate has different plans for them. Look for this charming story about sweet coincidences, destiny and finding your soul mate Sept 28th!

Love, love, love! The cover says rom-com and is misleading. It is a story about love and serendipity but also grief, anxiety, and taking those first steps of faith. And how we sometimes get “stuck” in life due to things that happen in your youth. So much going on here. There IS humor (laugh out loud humor), but there‘s SO MUCH more. I go into more detail in my GR review (link below), but suffice it to say I‘m a fan of Lia Louis for life. 5/5⭐️

robinb PS. GR link: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4230553498 And if you haven‘t read this one from her, I also recommend it. 😊 (edited) 10mo

Kinda thought this would be frothy and light, or cutesy like a Hallmark movie, but it‘s definitely not. I thought the premise was cute, but the woe is me attitude if our heroine really drove me crazy. Also, the continual harping of fate was another annoyance; you can totally think it, but you do sound kind of daffy if you keep mention it after they say they don‘t believe it. All the other characters outside of our heroine and her family we great!

Liked the story, but didn't like the MC. She's the sort of person you want to strangle like Homer Simpson does Bart, or whack on the back of the head with their own novel.
