Nope.
Predictable from the first page.
I groaned through most of this book and its cliches, but I did not see the culprit coming!!! I saw the red herring and still think he‘s a creeper. Man, Frida got me again in the end. Book #102 in 2024
This was fun to read. I devoured the last third of the book, as the twists kept coming. I had three different suspects for the murderer, changing my theory as new information was received.
While not my favorite of her books that I have read (I found the MC to be whiny and unreliable at times), I do have to say that McFadden is the queen of twists and you can always count on some shockers, and this one was no exception!
This was my last book for August. I enjoyed it. But... the MC was a bit annoying at times. It's like just the flip/flop nature of her thoughts. I get that she would be conflicted, but she jumped wildly from one side to the other.
Anyway, overall a good one :) I really enjoy this author *I am kinda late in the game

The Inmate is a gripping psychological thriller. The story follows single mom Brooke Sullivan who suffered a horrific tragedy in her teenage years. The twists and turns in this book had me reeling and I saw none of it coming- when I thought I did I was proven wrong. Well played McFadden- well played!
I‘m only new to her books but I‘ve enjoyed all of them so far. Can‘t wait to get up to date
Unpopular opinion;
The writing is good. The storyline is good and twisty (if terribly contrived). There is some suspense. The characters, though! The protagonist in The Inmate is incredibly naive and, frankly, stupid. Her priorities, thoughts, and behaviors are inconsistent with someone who has experienced just about anything in life, let alone a traumatic event. Her observation skills and instincts are crap.
Started out strong but got ridiculous, fast!
How could someone working in a high security jail have their smart phone on them to show an inmate photos? Do your research, Freida 🙈😂
This book had me on the edge of my seat and I read it in one setting! ❄️
⭐️⭐️.5- Freida # 4- This was my fourth Freida read and my least favorite so far. As always, you fly through her books, it‘s well written and it moves. I wasn‘t a fan of the ending. Unlike my last read which was super predictable and still enjoyable regardless, this one has a twist that fell flat.
Just when I was getting over my McFadden hangover, I went back for one more round. And as with any hangover, that last round was NOT good. The same can be said for this book. It was a quick read but IMO, it isn‘t her best. Weak story & characters. Everything felt so…convenient, plot armor was so shiny, McFadden was hoping readers would be blinded by it, not seeing how bland this book is. Glad I finished it, glad I get to move onto a new book.
What a great book! Couldn‘t put it down. First time reading Freida McFadden. Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I like the writing style of FM, this was a quick and easy read. I was slightly underwhelmed after finishing however, the twist came in the last few chapters and it was over so fast, I felt like it was lacking a punch. Overall it was a good book, I have two more of hers to read.
“I had to do what I did. After all, I would do anything for my mom.”

Entertaining but predictable enjoyed it much more than the coworker.
Bravo! It‘s my first book to read by this author. Well written—quick read, great story, it kept me guessing. I bought the housemaid along with this book. I hope it‘s as good as this one. I recommend this read. Four stars out of 5!!!
4.5 ⭐
What I love about this author is that no matter how much you think you figure things out, you're always proven wrong. So much so, in fact, that I think this one gave me whiplash! And that epilogue... Brrrr. It gave me legit chills all over!
Side note: Leslie Howard did, yet again, a fantastic job narrating this #audiobook.
Finished this last night!! So good!! Another 5 star read from Freida McFadden! I love her thrillers!! There were twists along the way & you don‘t know what‘s fully coming until the end. If you love psychological thrillers and have read previous books of hers then you should love this one!
I really liked everything I read in April. Have you read any of these? What did you think?
A solid thriller. Had me hooked from the beginning. I love a good twist. Frieda hasn't disappointed me yet!

This is truly another awesome read from Freida! I was so into it and didn‘t expect that ending! Such twisted plots and dark storyline, I was truly entertained. Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to explore The Inmate 🫰🏻 My rating is 4/5. Dark and filled with mystery, if you like Gone Girl or the likes of it, you can check this out! This is also my #bookspin read @TheAromaofBooks
Holy Crap on a Cracker! Unbelievably good book. Freida McFadden is such a good psychological thriller writer. There were some hints in this one that were great red herrings. How she came up with those twists, I will never know. I read this book in half a day. So good! Not much else I can say because I don't want to give anything away. If you like psychological thrillers, I highly recommend you read this book. Heck read all her books!
This past weekend I went to the Stevie Nicks concert in Omaha and visited 3 indie bookstores! As you do! This was one of my purchases and once again the ending surprised me! Love a good psychological thriller. This author is an autobuy now for me!

There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men‘s maximum-security prison:
1) Treat all prisoners with respect.
2) Never reveal any personal information.
3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.
But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules.
This quickly became an eye-roller for me.
Wishy-washy main character and unbelievable circumstances took me out of the story.
Brooke, girl, what is you doing. Consider my jaw dropped. This book is a WILD ride and a page turner until the end. And the epilogue? Don‘t skip it!!

On to my 3rd Freida McFadden book. I will say, I thought I was going to DNF based on how it started but it‘s starting to pickup and I‘m hooked.
Far fetched to say the least, and the main character is so dumb it‘s insulting. I only finished this because it was a book club pick, hoping against hope I wouldn‘t guess the “twist” correctly. And I did. 😒 Like a bad Lifetime movie. Improbable and ridiculous.
This was so disappointing as I‘d seen lots of hype for the author. Basically if you want a really unrealistic thriller with dialogue that reads like a soap opera (or even fanfiction at times) then this is for you. The plot moves quickly, there are completely ridiculous coincidences everywhere and … ugh, just no, it was bad.
Psychological Thriller … murder mystery that is written in two timelines … current and 10 years earlier.
Kept me guessing with a good twist. Recommended!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
I knew I was in for a twisty one, this didn‘t disappoint! Just when you think you have it figured boom, nope you don‘t! Such a page turner, another one that kept me engaged and not wanting to sleep or go to work to find out what happened & who did it!
Another good book by this author. This one was a quick read that sucked me in and kept me guessing till the end. Back and forth "they have to be the killer" to "no they have to be innocent " to "totally the killer", I couldn't make up my mind.

I‘m sure it‘s just me because a lot of people seem to like this book but - this was possibly the most improbable storyline with maybe the most clueless MC I‘ve ever read.
Anyone else feel that way?
Once again imperfect writing is made up for with a really good twist. The main character was kind of a idiot, but the story was still engaging. And the ending was…wow. #CookingtheBooks
Not my favorite of hers. The MC was on my nerves the whole time. After surviving attempted murder Brooke moves away and tries to create a life for her and her son. When her parents die she returns home to try to create a better life. Brooke is a really poor decision maker and ends up putting herself and her son in harms way. Don't be like Brooke. Definitely don't take a job in a prison where your attempted murder is held. Eye roll. 2 stars.
