so-soThis was a quick read. It was okay. I am debating whether to continue the series. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars. This is the fifth book I have completed for the #JubilantJuly readathon hosted by @Andrew65
pickTaken as a whole, I enjoyed this book! It focuses more on an uprising as opposed to Aladdin and Jasmine's relationship, but I appreciated that change. I really enjoyed the way Braswell depicts Jasmine, particularly her efforts to connect with all of her people. I think an opportunity to deepen the themes was overlooked, as I would have liked to see Jasmine take on feminist issues. Her ruling as an unmarried woman still could have been addressed.

so-soIt was alright. Most of the dialogue is exactly like the Disney movie. Which makes it drag sometimes and other times brings joyful nostalgia. It was nice to see a different take to Aladdin.

pick🎧 Book 1/10 of the Twisted Tales series. An Aladdin re-telling! Aladdin is my all-time favorite Disney movie and 2nd favorite Robin Willliams‘ movie. The story starts out just like the movie until we get to the cave then it‘s an all-out crazy ride with Jafar getting the lamp & control of the Genie so you know things are going to go terribly wrong. New characters! Death and mayhem! Rebellion! 🖤 I LOVED IT! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
so-so2.5/5 stars. Im starting to realise that these are not really twisted tales. There is a slight inconvenience, but the end pretty much more or less ends up the same, and with happliy ever after. Also the first 35% of this book was the original story that we all already know, just really drug out. I wanted actual twisted tales like the Grimm ones. This just isn't it.

pickI was very interested the whole way through this one. While the beginning was what you will remember from the original cartoon from Disney. There is different vantage points and beautiful narrative along the way. Once the story makes its twist you can expect a bit of a darker take. There is death, plans of war, and a very layered villain that you feel sorry for while you detest him. If you like retellings I would highly recommend this.

pickTook me a while to finish coz I feel like I‘m too familiar with the OG story. There‘s a certain level of expectation to meet.
It goes with the storyline of the OG version. There‘s nothing wrong with that coz I imagined it to be parallel. I wish they delved on Jafar‘s backstory. That would‘ve justified the twist.
It‘s still a good read for kids & kids‘ at heart. Just darker & more gruesome. Don‘t expect a warm, happily ever after-filled story.
pickI expected more from this. I was honestly kind of bored with this book because it did not seem to have much of a different story. Hopefully the other twisted tales are better than this one.

An interesting take on the story of Aladdin. Not my favorite fairytale, but I enjoyed it enough that I'll continue with the rest of the series. My husband tells me they get better.
