Woke up early so watching the film. I seen it before read book 3 times.

Referring to herself, Rachel points out on the very first page that many of the things she is about to share may be but the fruit of her imagination. Together with her fractured memories from excessive drinking, she seems to be oblivious of the fact that Therapy can save her. The most poignant quote is the one by Phoebe Buffay of friends saying “Rachel has arrived“ when she has one of those 'reflective' moments of truth.
Lessons to learn - Get professional psychological help when getting depression, anxiety, blackouts etc. Heal yourself. Dont help others when broken. It will drain you and likely hurt them.Be very careful how you react in anger. Don‘t say things you‘ll regret. Control yourself.I always say a person should never feel entitled to another person‘s self, blind trust or respect because they love them.Strangers are watching you live your life from afar.
Quit getting drunk or get off the train. Seriously. There is not one character to cheer for in this whole book. I hate unreliable characters and a twist you can see coming for miles. Book club bust.
“Drunk women solving crimes” is my favorite Thriller subgenre. I found this thoroughly engrossing &enjoyable.
The story follows 3 women surrounding the disappearance of local woman Megan Hipwell. We see the most perspective of Rachel, who has lost her job, marriage & possibly her mind due to drinking; Anna -her exhusband‘s new wife; and Megan herself. Rachel inserts herself into the investigation, but no one finds her credible 🍷
Although this is not my typical genre, I really enjoyed this book. Kept my hooked from the very 1st page.
Time for something different 😊
thrift store haul!
I never find this much good stuff at the store in town!
Some books- really looking forward to Girl on the Train & Wife Between Us & Coben is solid so these won‘t be on the shelf too long, a duffb, a jacket that‘s going for $120 on poshmark that was $10, the small bag is Betsy (it‘s in rough shape but if I see Betsy I always buy it) and a candlestick holder where the cat is fishing for a goldfish- who doesn‘t need that?
I was sick recently but I put my down time to good use with this quick read. It was fast paced and interesting, albeit at times very repetitive. It was creative to have the protagonist be an alcoholic. The end was a bit predictable, but oh well. It was entertaining. The movie didn‘t match up if you ask me, but the book was like a solid 3/3.5.
I really liked this book. I liked how it was really good at telling you enough information to keep you interested but not enough to make it obvious. I couldn't guess who it was until the book told me who it was. I knocked off 1 star because I thought it was a bit long and rambled at times. 4/5 stars
We went for a riiiiiide w this one! So many twists!
The first half felt pretty different than the second. At first this reminded me of “Notes on a Scandal”, with a wee bit less obsession (just a wee bit) and a wee bit more alcohol (ok, plenty more alcohol).
The second half had a lot more going on. Way faster, slightly confusing (meant to be, tho, I think?), and thoroughly gripping.

Also thanks @candority for hosting my very first #BookSwap 💗I‘m wooed
1. Tagged!! So horribly overrated. I tried another by her and didn‘t like it either.
2. I‘d go for any book in a cabin in the Smokies right now! I love being there when the leaves change.
3. Caramel for sure!
Thanks for the tags @Eggs and @MoonWitch94
Anyone is welcome to play!

This thriller was so captivating! I was so intrigued the entire book. I loved how the novel was written through the perspective of the different girls. You can't help but want to know more about their lives. I saw the movie when it came out but didn't remember anything about it 😊 I really enjoyed this one!
This book taught me how we can be manipulated. How some sick person makes us feel unworthy, destroys our self-esteem and never, even realize it. Being emotionally healthy is important.
A good book.
Hollowness: that I understand. I am starting to believe that there isn't anything you can do to fix it. The holes in your life are permenant. You have to grow around them, like tree roots around concrete; you mould yourself through the gaps.
I‘m listening to this, and I find myself getting so pissed off at Rachel, especially when she starts drinking - again and again and again. I‘d like to smack the daylights out of her. Thank goodness I‘m in my car when I‘m yelling at her!
I read this book a couple of years ago & remember not being able to put it down. I couldn‘t recall the story line, so I excitedly downloaded the audio version. It was great the second time too! In a way, listening made the perspective shifts easier to follow bc the voices were different. Highly recommended!
Liked the way everything that‘s happening is just given a description from different points of view.
I have never understood how people can blithely disregard the damage they do by following their hearts.
The Girl On The Train is about a woman named Rachel and about her struggle with her lost job and becoming an alcoholic. She continuously struggles with the fact that she can't escape her past and she seems to hurt everyone around her. I would say that alcohol is a recurring symbol in this book and the main motif that symbolizes Rachel's addiction and daily struggle. If you like books with major plot twists, then you'll like this one.
I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. I liked the way that Hawkins constructed the manipulative man and the alcoholic ex-wife. They were very realistic & very sad.

sometimes...when I don't know what thriller audiobook I want to listen to... I make technology choose for me haha! xD I am getting on the 'girl on the train' train 😬 my other option was An Anonymous Girl. Any news on that one in audiobook format?
OMG!!!!! I'm in an honest-to-goodness HEP1 train car! This is bringing back way too many memories! The smell hasn't changed either. Man! Are we back in the 1980s or what!
Train station, meaning I'm heading home soon and won't have to come back to uni until the 9th. I'll be able to have more than 36h straight inside my house! Yé! Semester is far from over and tomorrow is still a full day of work, but yé comfy clothes and easy access to couch, fridge, and shower .
On the way home, until tomorrow when I get on another train to go to uni. I think I'll have time to break down on or after the 12th. And that's before the Christmas drama. I will be making time to finish a book on the 6h-long ride today. I'll let you know.
You know what I like best? Reading vicariously through you all. 😘😘😘😘😘
Oh, look! I'm on a train again. Heading to Québec City to work on the funeral and help my father. Oof. I'll be frank: at this point, I do not have neither the health, nor the time to be doing this, but needs must. Will I be reading? Probably not.
1️⃣ Of course. Who doesn't?
2️⃣ When my urge to fling it to the wall is near impossible to contain.

3. I would love too.
4.To hot. I hate being cold

Thanks @Alora , this is so much fun!
I'm finally jumping on the Girl on the Train train and listening to it on audio. Really enjoying this format for the novel. #amreadingmystery #audiobooks #booksbywomen
Sadly, on a train again. What I can tell you is that 1) I've not read anything fictional in 8 days, and 2) Not going to read fiction any time soon, because course writing, and 3) Not going to finish Inktober in actual October.
Please tell me fun bookish things!
End of day, another train, this time in first class, which I almost never do. Onward and forward to Toronto. I am exhausted!
Gloomy traveler on a gloomy train day. Forgot my lunch bag at home. Heading to uni for a full teaching day, then taking another train to Toronto, where I have a specialist appointment tomorrow morning. After which, I'm going to the Muji store to buy All. The. Stationary!!! Then another train home. Too much marking and lecture writing to do for getting any reading done. We'll see. *sigh*
Québec City bound. I'm teaching a class at Université Laval tomorrow. (This time, I'm travelling 1st class 😉)
Off to work today, despite having had an allergic reaction to prosciutto last night. Had to take an antihistamine which means my meeting with the allergist tomorrow is compromised, which means my travel this weekend is compromised too. Hate my life!
I read this gem at the beginning of 2017. It was a fun and quick read. Loved the twist, it was not what I saw coming, and I had several theories playing through my mind. #thegirlonthetrain #paulahawkins #suspense #thebookisbetterthanthemovie #bookworm #idowhatiwant
