I mean, WTF!?
Banned Books Week is almost here! It‘s September 18th through September 24th. With libraries and basic human rights for marginalized communities under fierce attack, this week feels more important than ever. My reading list for this year is a combination of my local library‘s recommendations and titles from the Top Ten most challenged books of 2021 and 2020.
The Onion is on point today!
“Under our zero-tolerance policy, any novel brought onto school grounds will result in the offending student‘s expulsion. Paraphernalia like bookmarks, highlighters, and library cards will be immediately confiscated. And don‘t think you can get away with hiding a paperback in your pocket, either. We will not hesitate to conduct a strip search.”
Welcome #BacktoSchool for all my fellow Litsy educators out there!
My favorite week of the year is almost here. Banned Books Week starts Sunday. Like last year, I‘m hoping to get through a few new-to-me books and reread a couple of old favorites. I read Invisible Man the summer before my senior year of high school. I‘m not sure which Hemingway novel I‘ll listen to, as it will depend on when library holds become available. #bannedbooksweek
Here is my book stack for the #24B4Monday #readathon #maymadness. Harry Potter, Margaret, & Pet Sematary are all listed as banned in one place or another. The other 2 books are just on my TBR. Photo of Judy Blume from HuffPost. @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65 @Clwojick @RadicalReader
Visited an American Lit class today to talk research and was gifted with a button! I love our faculty 🤓
Had to share the holiday gift for M‘s teacher...another big reader! Her teacher worked as the school librarian for the last 4 years and just transitioned this year back to teaching 4th grade.
The school mascot is an owl, hence all the 🦉 stuff!
I so rarely get to my morning coffee while it's still jot enough to read the books, that I had to take a pic yesterday. Heat-reactive banned books mug. :-)

Helped set up this display in the library today 😁👍🏻👍🏻! Each of the tiny book covers can be flipped up to reveal why that particular book has been banned. A loooot of patrons spending some time at it 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!! Quite a few of them took pictures too. @BookBabe 's donated bookmarks are in the center 😎👍🏻. #BannedBooksWeek #LitsyLovesLibraries
Didn't see this till today so I'll post yesterdays and todays- today! #bannedbooksweek
