Pickpick

I haven't read any of Doctorow's books before. This #audiobook was part of a HumbleBundle I bought ages ago. Read by the author (with, if you have a keen sense of hearing, police sirens in the background 😂).

Truly enjoyed the story of how Markus and his girlfriend help after an earthquake in Oakland.

Needless to say it made me even more aware of how vulnerable mobile phones are to hacking. 😳

Rereading these and continuing on in the long list of books featuring Drizzt Do‘urden. When it comes to books like this I‘m a junkie for them.

#SoaringScores
I love books about people who trek & go adventuring & checked this one out from the library as it starts in Washington & the Pacific Northwest which used to be my #Homeland before I moved to Oahu in 2001.😉

As humid as our weather has been for going on months now, a few chapters seemed perfect to accompany my Creamy Tomato Soup & Toast with Tomato Butter. 😋I can dream of cold places. Link to soup & tomato butter recipes 👇🏻

CrowCAH Now you have a new homeland in Hawai‘i! 5y
Cinfhen Even your toast looks SCRUMPTIOUS 😋 5y

This movie combines three of my favorite things: horses 🐴 , Hans Zimmer score music 🎶 , and Bryan Adams my favorite singer musician 🇨🇦!

Such a “spirited” story about taking action and assisting those you love!

The Art of Travel | Alain de Botton
post image

Having explored various aspects of travel, de Botton ends by discovering his #Homeland thro the mindset of a traveller. Following 18th century explorer Xavier de Maistre, he starts with his bedroom, before moving to his wider neighbourhood.

“Of the 4000 things there might be to see and reflect on in the street, we end up actively aware of only a few: the number of humans in our path, the amount of traffic & the likelihood of rain”

#soaringscores

CrowCAH An interesting list of three things. 5y

CrowCAH It appears Papa‘s homeland might include a lighthouse, based on the illustration. 5y
arlenefinnigan @CrowCAH who doesn't love a lighthouse? 5y

If I look at my familial #Homeland , I‘ve got ties to just about every Eastern European country, not to mention quite a lot of other Western European countries. Admittedly, I picked up this book for its description of suspense, as well as for the city name in its title, based in one of the many countries I can call “home.” It sounds interesting, with ties to history. #SoaringScores

Cinfhen I still haven‘t been to Hungary 🇭🇺 but it‘s high up on my list 5y
BarbaraBB Such a beautiful city 💜 5y

Librarybelle @BarbaraBB Shall we co-host? This will be a fun challenge! I know it would give me the push to read more European literature and explore way more regions than I ever have before. Thank you for thinking of this! 5y
BarbaraBB Perfect! I‘d love to be your co-host! 5y
BarbaraBB As a European I have really enjoyed and learned so much about the US thanks to your challenge! It will be fun to explore Europe! 5y

CrowCAH Wow it‘s neat you‘ve lived in many places! 5y
Librarybelle @CrowCAH I wish I‘ve lived, or even visited, some of these places! I didn‘t explain well - my ancestors are from various Eastern and Western European countries. I enjoy armchair traveling to these places, either through fiction or nonfiction books. 😁 5y
CrowCAH @Librarybelle armchair traveling is very convenient! 5y
Cinfhen I‘m excited for your 2020 challenge @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle I‘m DEFINITELY going to participate 🧡👍🏻 5y

#SoaringScores Tonight begins ANOTHER Jewish Holiday 🍋🌴🎋

Sukkot commemorates the 40 years that the Jews spent in the desert on their way to the #Homeland and celebrates the way in which God protected them under difficult desert conditions.

“You shall dwell in Sukkot (huts) seven days...in order that future generations may know that I made the Israelite people live in sukkot when I brought them out of the land of Egypt”
Leviticus 23:42 👇🏼

Cinfhen Top left is my sukkah ( temporary hut) the others are from local hotels who seat their guests outdoors for the next 7 days♥️ (edited) 5y

Sace Your sukkah looks amazing! Mine were never so posh 😊 5y
AlaMich Yes, yours is lovely! 5y
Cinfhen It‘s kind of crazy how sophisticated they‘ve become @Sace They were selling portable sinks you could put inside your sukkah and fans & chandeliers 🙄 5y
Cinfhen Thanks all xx I do love my sukkah, it‘s always full of friends & family @RachelO @Caroline2 @Blaire @Chrissyreadit @AlaMich Tonight we are 19 for dinner and tomorrow we are 21 for lunch 🥗 💗😁 5y
TrishB Gorgeous 😁 what do people do who live in horrible cold and rain!? (I‘m literally thinking here!) 5y
Cinfhen I know @TrishB cold is “non-negotiable” but if it‘s raining you only make a blessing inside the sukkah but u eat your meal indoors 😉 5y
TrishB You could hedge your bets for rain here then in October! 5y
Cinfhen Definitely @TrishB 😂😂😂 5y
CrowCAH Way to tie in the holiday to the theme today! 5y
RohitSawant So wonderful and vibrant! 5y
Kalalalatja I thought the same @TrishB it has been pouring down all day here 🌧 but your sukkah looks lovely Cindy! 👌 5y
LeahBergen This is so cool! Do you sleep in the sukkah? Or just eat and celebrate? 5y
Cinfhen So the real die-hards DO sleep in the sukkah @LeahBergen but ours is more symbolic than practical 😉we keep to the easy stuff!! Thank you @Kalalalatja @rohit-sawant 😊so nice to hear from you @rohit-sawant what‘s new with you??? I feel like it‘s been months!!!!! 5y
RohitSawant @Cinfhen It has! Hope you're doing well. I'm due to start a new job at a VFX studio in a few weeks and the in-house training programme has me wrapped up. The commute was brutal months back 'cause of the constant rain and things were generally hectic. They've settled down somewhat now so hoping to carve out more Litsy time! 🙌🏼 5y
Cinfhen Im glad all is well and excited to hear about a new job opportunity for you @rohit-sawant ❣️❣️❣️no complaints from me xx 5y
Insightsintobooks Chag Sameach! It's beautiful. ❤😊 5y
