1. I hate when books get a bit silly like the tagged book, See Under Love, Foe, and I will never get over Her Fearful Symmetry. I just can‘t suspend disbelief 🤷‍♀️

2. The more people go on about ACOTAR the less I want to read it - same goes for Crawdads, Blood Orange and any domestic thriller

I started reading this and thought it felt familiar. I had downloaded this as an audio book a few years ago. It was an interesting story but the narrators were terrible and I bailed.

I finished the book. It wasn‘t that good for me. The story started strong, then got boring. I didn‘t really care for the characters. The big traumatic incident that caused the death of the parents turned out to be not very shocking. I would give this book a pass.

There is a lot wrong with The Dead House, however, everything that it gets right makes up for the downsides of the story telling.

Told using a non-traditional narrative stricture, The Dead House really deserves more traction in the YA market for it's uniqueness and intrigue.

It i's definitely worth a look of you are into any of the following. Psychological horror, found footage or dark drama.

I would definitely read another book by Kurtagich

This book is a bit of a hot mess, but interesting. There's multiple personalities, long buried memories, mental institutions, witchcraft, gore, and a countdown to a huge fire. The ending is a bit... up in the air, fair warning for those that like answers. Muhahahaha

This is between a So-So and a Pick. I loved the mixed media format of the story. Told in diary entries, interviews, “video” clips etc. But it definitely didn‘t need to be 400 pages long. The middle dragged and the ending was so tense and gripping and was over in a matter of pages. Unreliable narrator with some interesting side characters but the pacing and abrupt/nonsensical/That‘s it? ending is what made it a 3.5 rating. #bookspin

I can definitely tell that this is a debut novel. It just didn't quite have that creep factor that I'm used to in a Kurtagich book. Was interesting, but not as good as her other two.

Good YA horror that is a mix of mental illness and black magic.

This book was very interesting! It‘s set up as a series of interviews, diary entries, and video transcriptions which kept it interesting and made it seem more realistic. This book is considered a YA horror and that perfectly describes it. Although it‘s not particularly scary, it does have spiritual and magical elements that add to the creep factor. I‘m so glad I picked up this book!

On a horror kick apparently. And I just ordered some old YA books I never read in school, so on a YA kick too 🤨

This was another amazing book by Dawn Kurtagich! I absolutely loved listening to this story! It was the perfect amount of spooky for a fall evening. Recommend highly!

Doctor says I have Carpel Tunnel. Most likely from my increased reading and how I position myself when I do so. 😂 So since I'm in this beauty, for 2 weeks, I'm listening to audio books. The Dead House is amazing so far. I thought 'And the Trees Crept In' couldn't be topped but 'The Dead House' is very close so far!

I was blown away by this debut novel. If you like a good horror story, read it. It is told via journal entries, camera footage, and interviews. #horror

I started The Dead House on my flight home yesterday and it‘s way better than I thought it would be! It has a format similar to Illuminae (which is one of my favorite books). Hopefully I can finish it up after work today 🤞

This was part of last years #audiobooksync free downloads. I've been listening to it since yesterday and am really liking it. While it doesn't have a #poltergeist, the "sister" acts as a poltergeist. If you have listened/red it you get it. #april80smovies.

Was so excited to read this as I loved her second book. It did not disappoint. Very trippy and creepy. The questioning of what was real, what was imaginary, what in someone's mind, and what was supernatural was very well handled. The written format of letters, interviews, video descriptions, diary entires, etc. was so unique and fun to read. And things were still so vivid and I could totally imagine everything coming to life.

Loving the concept of this book. Such an interesting format as the whole thing is told in letters, texts, interviews, videos, etc.

Read it if you like creepy. It won't be for everyone as it's done in the style of police reports and diary entries but it was creepy good. Kept me reading and actually made me a little scared to go to sleep last night, that almost never happens.

I absolutely loved the alternative writing format. The diary and notes between Carly and Kaitlyn, psychiatric reports, witness testimonials and video footage were easy to follow. Kaitlyn, the alter ego, becomes the main suspect in Carly's disappearance. You dig deeper and realize that there's some memory being suppressed in their mind about an incident that Dr. Lansing won't tell them about because she feels that they aren't ready to know yet.

This YA #thriller looks amazing! What really happened when 3 students disappeared? The house knows. (I‘m also a sucker for novels that incorporate different modes of writing: diaries, psych evaluations, and more!) #BAM #TBRtemptation

This was a really great thriller. I really enjoyed the different views it had between dissociative identity disorder and possession. It was creepy, but also left you wondering. I found myself reading late into the night and not even realizing it. It's definitely a good read for the fall!

I'm not a huge horror book fan and this kind of scary book was not my thing at all! I love this author that's for sure and I love her style of writing just the story line wasn't for me lol. You have to give her books a chance if you enjoy a scary story every now and then, and if you need a good audio book this is the author to go to for an amazing creepy audio book!!

I got the audiobook free from audiobooksync.com which gives 2 free books each week during the summer. They started early this year and this was from week 1. Check it out! This book was very creepy at times but things started to get a bit weird for me, and I love weird books. I felt it got too unrealistic in the magic/mystical parts.

Told in a similar style to The Iluminae Filed but a bit darker. Deals with a girl named Carly whose parents died in an accident. We open to her in a mental institution that she spends her summers in when she isn't in boarding school. In the day she is Carly but at night she is Kaitlyn. The doctors say it is a psychosis from the accident but Carly says Kaitlyn has always been there. Was an okay read

Interesting mystery of the mind

A "found-footage/journal/notes" book (which I thinked worked really well for this story) about a missing girl, Carly/Kaitlyn Johnson, who may live with DID or house two souls in one body. Several people are dead and someone is messing with dark powers best left to themselves. This book was exactly what I was looking to read - an entertaining horror romp with some classic horror tropes and wonderfully disturbing and, at times, grotesque imagery.

It was really an amazing read that keeps you guessing even when you think you know what's going on but then you're still not sure. I am at the point will I will buy whatever Dawn writes! I love reading her stories!

I have a ridiculously large TBR! I mix my TBR with my read books. I keep a list of all my books on a spreadsheet and check them off as I read them.

This is my horror fiction bookcase. I didn't get through as many of these as I had intended to in 2016. Along with participating in a couple reading challenges, my goal is to also read through my horror TBR in 2017. Have any horror fans heard of some good horror reading challenges?
