A beautiful story about finding lost loved ones that reminds us that there is so much to be learned about the way our world works than what we know, and that the mother child bond is boundless. Oh and the elephants are majestic.

Audiobook was very well done with each separate character personality. Otherwise, this is an incredibly heart wrenching mystery story of a girl looking for her mother. Though the ending twist came out of nowhere, with the hints only coming half way to me. The connection between elephants and human grieving processes was very well received. I also didn‘t know you could study grief.

A horrible accident occurs @ an elephant sanctuary, leaving some to suspect murder. We‘re introduced to Jenna, who hasn‘t seen her mom since the accident and she leans on some interesting characters for help. We only get to see as much of the incident as their clues give us. Despite all the clues being given, I still was surprised towards the end…even though I picked up on other clues. Well written.

This book has it all: unpredictability, dual timeline, love story multi dimensions, and elephants as characters. The human journey is beautifully reflected in the elephants spanning the US and South Africa. One is easily engaged and swept up in the various twists and turns of the multilayered plot. The author skillfully reveals and communicates the inner working of a character and the subtle and intricate interactions among each main player.

I‘ve never felt I *had* to read a Jodi Picoult until I recently saw talk here about this book. The plot summary intrigued me! This alternates researched information about elephants with the plot of a young child recruiting a psychic and a detective to help find her missing mom. The info about the elephants is poignant. Spoiler below is my thoughts only, but may affect *how* you read this book, if you still haven‘t yet!

ValerieAndBooks Almost everyone has commented on the twist ending, so it made me look for, and guess, what that twist would be. I was right in one main aspect! 4y
BookishTrish @ValerieAndBooks Wow! I‘m impressed! 4y

Reggie Love the gold elephant! And glad you liked it. I still think about that elephant and the hula hoop. And concerning the twist when she writes about water coming down the walls I really just thought, oh, maybes she‘s going poetic in us. Then it dawned on me later after she‘s spelled it out for us. Duh! Lol 4y

Well, dang! What a crazy ride this is book was for me! There's a ton to unpack with this one. At first I really wasn't sure I was going to like this, because there's a lot of technical information about elephants and it got a little boring at times during those parts. The last few chapters really blew me away, though! I didn't see what was coming at all.. great ending! 4.5 star!

This book was awesome. I was supposed to read it for #bookclub but never got around to it. They made me promise to read it anyway. I am so glad that I did.

Jenna's mother disappeared 10 years ago. Now she's 13 and decides to find her. She finds the detective that worked on her case and a psychic and convinces them to help her. And there's elephants. 🐘

I haven't read a ton by this author but this is exceptional.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫I liked how it was written, & it was a very engaging story. The mystery that happens at the elephant sanctuary was intriguing, and I enjoyed all the info about the elephants, their emotions, and the tie-ins those had with the humans in the story. The main part I didn‘t like was the ending, I was wishing for something different. So I‘m going with 3.5 stars because I think I was just personally a little disappointed, but it was a good book.

Jenna was three when her mother disappeared on the same day that her colleague at the elephant sanctuary was killed. Ten years later Jenna enlists the help of a P.I. and Psychic to try and find her mother.

This is quite a different book from the other books I've read by Jodi Picoult. Whilst I enjoyed it I think it could have been a bit tighter. I loved the bits about elephant and how they interact with their world.

JanuarieTimewalker13 @Reggie I loved this book bc it had soul. The twist shocked the heck out of me...I def thought it was Thomas and he employed the memory drug on Alice...those are along the lines I was thinking, so don‘t think you‘re an idiot. I loved the metaphysical portion of the novel, but the Elephants and the goodness they emanate really added it it 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Reggie ^^^^look above...it‘s not really a spoiler.....but I just think people who read it should go in knowing as little as possible. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Wait, I pressed on spoiler, so the spoiler skeleton is gone for me, but is it still there for other people? (edited) 5y
Reggie Lol, yes it is. I still think about the elephants, too. Like how those two were friends and when one died the other kept taking the it‘s favorite toy everywhere. I can‘t remember what it was but I wanna say it was a hoop. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Reggie the tire? I know, wonderful...if you go to Elephant Sanctuary‘s website, they tell each elephant‘s story. This book has made me do a lot of research. I have know about Elephant Sanctuary for years, but this book reignited my want for more info! 5y

If you have ever read Jodi Picoult, then you know she‘s a masterful storyteller that often throws an extremely unexpected twist in her stories. This novel is an example of how cleverly Picoult layers her stories. The suspense keeps you hooked and they payoff is sweet! I could have done with a bit less of the elephant facts, but Picoult does her research and shows it off here. I realize it is a realistic cause that deserves some recognition.
