willaful Beautiful poem. I wonder if this is the origin of the phrase “Black like me.“? 1y
dabbe @willaful Excellent question! I had to research. This poem was published in 1926, and then there's a book entitled BLACK LIKE ME by John Howard Griffin, a journalist who disguised himself as a black man in the racially segregated South in 1961. That's all I know so far. 🤩😍🤗 1y

TiredLibrarian @TheSpineView I just read this poem today! I was looking for short poems for a Black Poetry Day (10/17) display. Dreaming of a nap in the short term, and a nice vacation in the long term. 🌞🌈 3y

Out of love,
No regrets--
Though the goodness
Be wasted forever.

Out of love,
No regrets--
Though the return
Be never.

Always amazing how much you can learn and feel from poetry. A few words on a page used the right way can teach and express so much.

"Let America be America Again" by Langston Hughes still rings true in 2020. I can't read this poem aloud to students without crying. It's achingly beautiful.

1. I love Langston Hughes and his poetry. I am planning to add more reading from many different backgrounds in my new era of reading.

2. I have, I would not be able to tell you the name of the book nor author, it was many years ago. All I remember is the premise of the book.

Langston Hughes was an outstanding poet. His life story is just as interesting as the work he produced. I take inspiration from this poem, and it is one of only a small handful I can recite by heart. Don't forget, Thursday is #WorldPoetryDay - Many people who didn't like poetry in school find it was the way it was taught and not poetry that they disliked to begin with. ☺
