Treating myself and daughter to pedicures while we read our books. Busy weeks ahead of us as she finishes her undergraduate classes before graduation and work is going crazy for me. Son is still sound asleep from the long trek home from his university in northern Arizona for the summer.

(2017) This was an audiobook for a long drive, and served nicely. It's an historical novel with dual timelines, one featuring a woman spy in WWI, and the other a young socialite searching for a friend lost in WWII. I'd read another by the author.

I read all these in the last few months. #sundayfunday fascism = not very fun

Just a few years after the end of WWII, pregnant Charlie is sent to Europe to rectify her “situation” but she takes the opportunity to track down her cousin who went missing in Nazi-occupied France. She recruits Londoner Eve to help.
Eve has spent the last few decades trying to recover from her time as a spy during WWI and agrees to help Charlie in the hopes it will lead to her revenge against the man who betrayed her.

I enjoy historical fiction, particularly when it is more historical and less fiction. I think The Alice Network does an excellent job of portraying these real WWI spy heroes. Enough said.

Listened over audio. I liked this one. Little bit more but still a long book. It was an interesting story about women spies. A good listen while doing puzzles & chores.

This was just a personal preference for me on why I didn‘t care for this one. It was a bit slow for me in my opinion. And the shift in time and characters was really hard to follow especially when trying to absorb the historical elements of the book and the setting. It was a great story. I just didn‘t love it like everyone else does.

8/2024 read in less than a week.. enjoyed this book… goes to past present…. I‘d say more of a read than not…. Got better the further into it.,. I think I was expecting a diff kind of story line!

These were my choices for my Little Free Library. I enjoy volunteering at the sale and always bring cash so I can contribute my $ as well as my time.

kept my interest. a great way to highlight the courage of real woman spies during WWI. at times maybe a bit melodramatic but i am a sucker for a good story told across two different time periods.

4 ⭐️ There were a number of things that I liked about the book, but there were a few things that I really didn‘t like about the book. I really liked Eve‘s storyline much more than Charlie‘s and for some reason I felt more sympathy for Eve than for Charlie. Fascinating and remarkably human. I am such a fan of Kate Quinn‘s novels, and this was no exception. I will say this was more raw and visceral than some of her other works, but that‘s not a bad thing. While this spy story is thrilling, it feels incredibly real. The characters were amazing in this - such great development of even the smallest parts. I appreciate that. And the story was unputdownable. Highly recommend this book and this author. ✍️

Squeaked in one last title for #spookoween. I resisted reading this one for a long time because I felt burnt out on historical fiction based on the World Wars but I enjoyed this story about a real life female spy network.

This book kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning.Kate Quinn has a way of doing that.Her character development is wonderful,so much so that I feel I know the characters in this story personally.I‘m fascinated to learn of the devotion & bravery of the female spies during WWI and WW2.As with many historical fiction books,I learned a lot while reading this book.I highly recommend this book,and wonder what took me so long to finally read it.

This took me a little while to get into, but once I got there I couldn't put it down. I literally gasped out loud at one point and startled both my husband and the dog!

I don't usually read Historical Fiction, but this one was recommended to me multiple times, so I gave it a try. I struggled to get into it, and at times it was a bit too dark for my mental state at the time. However, after I got past the middle point, the story really drew me in. The last half was really good, the story is one that will definitely stick with you.

It seemed appropriate to finish this book yesterday, on International Women‘s Day, with Eve and Charlie. Although I wasn‘t sure about it at first, I really grew to enjoy the story and was eager to see how it all played out. It was hard not to root for our heroines.

This is an awesome book that show that two badass women spies/ warriors against German in world wars one and two that can be just as tough as male soldiers. Charlie and Eve and Finn are three close friends that stick together until the end. Kate Quinn in the author‘s notes describes how historically accurate she kept it to world wars one and two. This was a fun adult book. There is never a boring moment, so I highly recommend this book!

I know I know ……may people love this book. But for some reason I am not into it……that surprises me as well because I am a fan of historical fictions 🤨🤨

This was a book club pick 📚 I figured I would find it unbearable and give up after the first chapter because I don‘t like 1)historical 2)war 3)spy thrillers

BUT

I was hooked! The writing was beautiful, the characters are dynamic/wholesome and understanding of each other‘s issues, and my reason for reading kept changing every few chapters. It really made me think about the realities of a spy network. There‘s a lot of down time!

As is common with many current novels, this one alternates narrators and time covering both WWI and WWII. An interesting premise of female spies who were less suspect by enemies. This novel once again reinforces the true cost of war - even those who never directly fought may be adversely affected the rest of their lives.

I really enjoyed this book about two women trying to defy expectations and forge a path for themselves, one as a spy during World War I and the other as a young, unmarried woman looking for answers about her missing cousin. I had to put the book down a few times to calm myself when I was worried about what was about to happen so I was clearly emotionally invested. Happy to find a new to me historical fiction author I am excited to read more from.

Finally read a Kate Quinn and I‘m glad I did. This duel timeline story of a female World War I spy with a grudge to settle and a pregnant girl searching for her cousin after World War II with a surprising pair of travel companions was unputdownable. It‘s got danger, revenge, romance, and redemption. I loved these characters and how well Quinn depicts the scars of the World Wars that left their mark on all of them.

It took a little to immerse myself into this one but ended up being an interesting story.
