Currently reading. Left is for movie/book club and right is a buddy read with @NataliePatalie. The left is interesting. The right is a drudge.
I had never read this or seen the movie. I finally got around to it. Now, I know why it has been a best seller for years.
For the people who have been living under a rock somewhere, this novel details a remarkable story.
Oskar Schindler's rescue of thousands of men, women, and children from Auschwitz, it's one of the most familiar narratives to arise out of the terrible events of the Holocaust.
I am sure this book will be amongst the greatest reads of all time for painting such a vivid picture of what that time in history was like for those that lived it.
For the year 1982 I selected this book. This was such a good but emotional read. I‘ve been to Auschwitz and through Krakow and so I‘ve had the experience of seeing things and through travel gives me an appreciation for visually being able to picture things describe in the book. This is one time where the book and the moving are equally amazing #19822022 @Librarybelle
Another one I got this week that have been wanting forever:)!
Hope you all are having a great weekend:)!!📚.
This one was long overdue. Watched the movie years ago in high school. I've recently found a new appreciation for those who survived World War II. Novels concerning the matter seem to fascinate me as of late. Just the idea of what some had to endure... today's society would just crumble.

After sitting on my bookshelf for decades I just finished this. We‘re visiting Krakow in July so I thought I should give it a try. I knew the tale behind the man, but never watched the movie either, thinking it was too depressing - but the current state of the world makes the horror of this part of history important to never forget. Schindler was a man with many flaws but he used every one of them to save lives.
I'm soooo annoyed when it doesn't say anywhere in the audiobook that it is a shorter version of the actual book. I decided to roll with it anyway since the reader was Ben Kingsley and I don't think I would read this in a book form because I'm not mentally in a place where I would enjoy reading anything about the concentration camps.
It was nice to finally get to know the real story of Schindler! I've seen the movie and liked it a lot.
This book was hard. It took me about 2 weeks to get through, which is very unusual for me. I‘ve seen the movie, many years ago, and this goes into more detail, and you can really follow some of the people through this incredible true story. It‘s haunting and I‘m so glad I took the time to read it. #booked2020 #genocide #readmyowndamnbooks
“For the thing about a myth is not whether it is true or not, nor whether it *should* be true, but that it is somehow truer than truth itself.” Chapter 26, page 232.
I decided to finally do it. This is something I've wanted to read for years and I bought it at the library book sale recently. No time like the present to read it while we are in the three weeks of mourning of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. It's strange to say but this is one of my favorite movies and if you haven't seen it, do! The movie is based off of this book.

I want this!
I bought my ticket so I can‘t back out. Never seen it.
I struggled with this book. It‘s not the subject matter that I had issues with—Schindler‘s story is important and what he did for the people he saved during the Holocaust is huge. I was not impressed with the writing, though. I was expecting more of a novelized history, but this seemed like a long, jumbled history paper until the last chapters, which elevated it to a pick rather than a so-so for me.
I adore the movie so much more.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
And it‘s finished!
And of course it‘s a pick!
Read it, watch the movie, both!
Sadly we live in a world where 1/3 of Americans think “substantially less” than 6 million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust

And you know what they say about “Those who Don‘t Know Their History” 😢

“Beyond this day,” he would claim, “no thinking person could fail to see what would happen. I was now resolved to do everything in my power to defeat the system.” 😢
If you are guessing out loud (or joking, as I read once in Gavin De Becker) about the horrible things that are/might happen... it‘s a defense mechanism, it‘s your brain‘s way of trying to prepare you for bad things you don‘t really want to think about and you should listen to it. Basically your subconscious instincts are telling you to pay attention.
....and most likely it‘s much worse than your imagination will let you even conceive of😱
Rather than land reforms, it‘s much easier to divide and conquer, always try to get them to blame and fight each other first.
I loved this beginning, a look at “virtue” and how we usually always tell all the wrong stories, it‘s usually much easier to measure and tell the bad, “from the other side of the beast” as it were.
I‘ve read several Holocaust novels, but this one was unique and incredibly interesting. As a factory owner, Schindler worked from within the system to protect as many Jews as he could from death. The amount of alcohol shared and money spent in the process of bribing officials, building facilities, and providing food was staggering. The details of death and survival are stories that must be remembered.

Jewish jewelers fully realized the truth of the unbelievable rumors they had heard about the deaths of the people sent away from the ghetto when they spent their days classifying the jewelry and gold teeth the Nazis collected.

Somehow I‘ve never seen the movie, so I‘m going into this with few expectations. I‘ve read four chapters so far and am completely intrigued. Reading this tonight with a supper of ginger chicken, asparagus, and broccoli.

I‘ve also been recommend to read a house of sand and fog many times but never seem to get around to it. As you can see @TobeyTheScavengerMonk your influence is most definitely coming through 😘
Book Haul. #WorldBookDay
I just finished this wonderful book. I laughed, I cried, and I was humbled by the acts of kindness.
"He who saves the life of one man saves the world entire."
Stunningly written...will be watching the movie again after reading this.
Gush 🤘🏽 Love the Melbourne Writer's Festival #mwf17
At its release, the movie swept me off my feet. I didn't know the story about Oskar Schindler then, some scenes of the movie have been lingering in my mind ever since and I cried the whole time.
In the book I recognized a lot of the scenes. However, in this case the written words couldn't match those images still in my head. It is an important book, It just couldn't have the same impact the movie had years ago. #booker #1001books #manbooker
