The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time GCSE Student Edition
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time GCSE Student Edition | Simon Stephens
Written specifically for GCSE students by academics in the field, the Methuen Drama GCSE Student Editions provide in-depth explanatory material alongside the play texts frequently studied at Key Stage 4. Whether for use in the classroom or independent study, these editions offer a fully comprehensive and lightly glossed play text with accompanying notes specifically directed towards readers of this age, which unravel essential topics and challenge all students to delve further into literary analysis. In Simon Stephens's multi-award-winning stage adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on Mark Haddon's novel, Christopher's investigation into the death of the neighbour's dog tears his world apart and confronts him with the struggle to survive when everything feels foreign. In addition to some on-page explanatory notes and the play text itself, this edition contains sub-headed analyses of themes, characters, context and dramatic devices, as well as background information on the playwright. The Methuen Drama GCSE Student Editions never lose sight of their readership, and offer students the confidence to engage with the material, explore their own interpretations, and improve their understanding of the works.

3.5⭐️ Not the biggest fan of the book; the story was pretty good, but the interruptions with the mathematical formulas was off-putting. #2024 #fiction #bookclub #contemporary

Couldn‘t find this in the kindle library, so I used the tagged which I‘ve also read and enjoyed.

Kindle single from years ago, nonfiction, about Mark Haddon‘s fears of swimming and flying and overcoming them, interspersed with poetry and anecdotes about teaching creative writing. Really interesting collection of stories woven into one narrative and gave me a lot to think about.

BarbaraBB Sounds great. I‘ve enjoyed some of his books so will check this out. 5mo
Kitta @BarbaraBB It‘s super short. Only 24? pages. I‘ve had it on my kindle for years and never really thought I was in the mood but I‘m glad I picked it up. I hope you enjoy! 5mo

The book was done well, and I liked the conclusion of the story, but the story itself was a bit strange and overdramatic. I didn't really care for the characters, they all need some professional help, but Christopher was great. I think the author can write really well and that's what made this a decent read. I just didn't like the storyline at all, yet I don't hate the book. I don't regret reading it either. It's a weird feeling, if I'm honest.

This book had been sitting on my shelf since middle-school…very happy I finally pulled it down to give it a read. A boy (who is described as being on the autism spectrum in publicity surrounding this book, but not explicitly stated by the book itself) sets about attempting to discover who killed his neighbor‘s black poodle. A mystery novel, yes, but one with a brilliant mathematically-minded detective possessing a wholly unique perspective.

Suet624 Great review for a great book.

In this book, the main character Christopher lives day by day on the Autism spectrum. When his neighbors dog named Wellington gets murdered, he is determined to figure out who committed the crime. The current antagonist of the story is Christopher's inability to understand human emotions since it makes it harder for him to figure out the killer. Christopher has an alphabetical list from A-R describing what society seems abnormal about him.

Very good read. The characters have real qualities are written in a very real environment. It is truly interesting to see through the eyes of another, especially in this case where Christopher goes through difficulties that much of the world may not. Very emotional if the reader thinks about the events that have occurred even if they were not written in such a way. This is a project worth reading.

I know this book is well loved on Litsy, but it's not the book for me. I gave it over 50 pages, and it still wasn't grabbing me, I was actively looking to read anything else instead of picking it up again. I'm sure it's a case of not the book but me.

Book 132

I've seen the play adaptation, so the story wasn't unexpected but was thoroughly enjoyable. The imperfect perspective of the protagonist is sweet and charming and seeing his difficulties navigating the world broadened my compassion for and understanding of autism. The ending isn't completely satisfying and leaves some questions unanswered, probably due to Christopher's perspective. But a highly- recommended, five-star read.

Picked up this interesting story today at a local Little Free Library.

Have you read it?

A 15-year-old boy with autism has his whole orderly world threatened when a dog dies in the neighborhood. Christopher goes out to investigate this mystery the only way he knows, like his favorite investigator Sherlock Holmes, with logic, patterns, and a diagram that he always keeps in his pocket.
