I haven‘t cared about the characters in a book this much in a long time. Especially Leni and Matthew. Kristin Hannah made the state of Alaska come alive for me. This was so very good. From the moment I started to the very last second, I was fully engaged. The narration by Julia Whelan was exceptional.

This book is intense and has the trigger of domestic violence. It is very explicit in the physical and psychological abuse. I will say this part was clinically well described. Also it was symptoms related with PTSD were well described.

pickKristin Hannah is usually a mixed bag for me. Love the stories but I sometimes find the writing cheesy. This was possibly the best-written of those I‘ve read. Some dark subject matter and it started out kind of slow, but the second half really picks up.
Kristin Hannah is a definite favourite of mine and so far this book does not disappoint.

pickI‘ve seen so many recommendations for this book and I decided to go ahead and take the plunge and I can‘t believe I waited so long! This book was just amazing. Kristin Hannah has such a way with her storytelling of making the readers feel all of the emotions! I was angry. I was sad. I bawled my eyes out and I was happy. Just wow. I definitely need to read all of her books now.
I think I will start this tomorrow.

pickWow! I see why people rave about her books. I know it‘s a good story when I‘m torn between wanting characters to have a happy ending and wanting them to suffer. Not sure I /love/ how it ended but the entire book was a joy to listen to. Will be listening to another one of her books soon!

pickI listened to the audiobook a few years ago, so this wasn‘t a new story for me. I love Hannah‘s writing. This is a love story see in the beautiful and harsh wilds of Alaska. There is love, heartbreak, community, and domestic abuse.
pickThis book was beautifully tragic. Loved the descriptions, the multifaceted characters, the unmistakable symbolism, and the theme of lonliness and trauma. However, it was such a sad book so be prepared to cry!

pickThis was such a beautiful and heartbreaking story that literally brought me to tears. The story highlights the complexity of relationships, PTSD, domestic violence, living of the grid, sacrifice, hope and everlasting love. This book has easily become a favorite.
pickWhew! How do you review a book in 4 lines that is deeper than an iceberg? A masterful book. Really difficult read…you want to skip the ugly parts, but then that‘s what gives the story it‘s depth and ultimately it‘s powerful restoration.

I chose a back list from 2018. I love the descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness. It's a great story, but the domestic violence is hard to read about.

pickOooof, this one hit my in the gut. I cried more times than I could count. Happy tears, sad tears, frustrated tears, complicated tears... all of the tears! Hannah has an amazing capacity for cresting characters with so much depth and range of emotion. I have been in love with Alaska for a long time. This book reminded me why it is on my bucket list.
I have an endless amount of books and audiobooks on my TBR but I‘m rereading one of my favourites for at least the tenth time #typical
