This was cute for what it was, a coming of age quest journey. Also shout out for the great bi rep that wasn't performative.

Bloodwork and eye Dr appt back to back. Waiting rooms are why I always have a book!
Finally getting a little into the season with my reading. My library hold came in at the perfect time.
I‘m so behind on a bunch of reviews for stuff I read on kindle and don‘t have photos of!
I love Zoraida Córdova. I started reading this one on kindle but ended up switching to the audio which was fabulous. Having the proper language and accents makes all the difference when I‘m trying to diversify my reading but not hit stupid mental road blocks. Haven‘t got to the other books in the series yet but I hope to. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you @bookish_wookish for my #LLFS box! I'm loving the items and books! Lavender is my favorite scent 💜

This YA fantasy about a young bruja from Brooklyn was delightful! Filled with ghosts, monsters, friends, and family, it is creative, magical and fun. I would love to see this as a movie or series. Great on #audio while cleaning the house! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #marvellousmay #readathon @Andrew65
Kind of a soft pick. I read this one for a class I‘m taking this semester, and I found the story engaging but the writing kind of overly simplistic for YA. This was also my #bookspin this month! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Alex attempts to use a celebration to rid herself of the magic she sees as a curse, it results in her family, the living and the dead, disappearing from this plane.
Reading this so close to Cemetery Boys was interesting. Instead of someone trying to find his place, Alex is desperate to cut herself off from her heritage. Watching her growth as she deals with insecurities was wonderful to see. A little predictable, but lots of fun. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Merry Christmas! My #BingoBoard is all decked out and jolly! 😁
#BookSpin 10 - Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova
#DoubleSpin 14 - Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
This book has some very mixed reviews, but I was impressed enough that I will continue the series. Witches, a diverse POC cast, family love, a believable bisexual character, rich fantasy with a lot of adventure… what‘s not to love? I listened to the audio and really loved narration. Very fun magical YA.
This was my #LatinxAuthor book for #Booked2021, listened in August.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just couldn‘t get into this one. However, I think if the right person would read it, it would be a good book. I really wanted to love it and there‘s a cliffhanger at the end, but I don‘t think my curiosity will ever be strong enough to pick up the next one. Still thankful for #booked2021 for pushing me to read outside my comfort zone #latinxauthor #seriesread #litsyatoz #c
My library has a new request page where you fill out a form with genres, books, etc that you like and they put a bunch of recommendations on hold for you. I basically said “I‘ve read lots of popular YA fantasy, what else is out there” and I‘ve never heard of any of these!! I‘m so excited to pick them up when they‘re in 🤩 #libraryhaul
Don‘t mind my dirty garden table. Instead focus on this beautiful cover. @zoraidasolo transported me to a different world full of magic and brujas. I listened to the audio while reading along with my (personalized autographed) copy and recommend reading either format.

3.2 🌟
The book was okay. Totally like the 1st and 2nd part, but after that it's a bit downhill. The triangle love is confusing, and not really necessary.
What I love about this book is the descriptions of Hell or Los Lagos is really beautiful, and rather like the scenes from Coco movie.
30% into the book
So far it's okay, Alex is a sixteen year old bruja, who's hidden her power. After years of hiding, nearing her Deathday she is revealed as an Enchantrix, a super powerful do-it-all magic.
Due to traumatic experiences in the past, Alex is afraid of her power and during her Deathday she's doing a reversal ritual to return all her power to Deos but end up sending her entire extended family to hell.
The second time I saw my dead aunt Rosaria, she was dancing. #firstlinefridays
Read this for the #makeyourmythtaker readathon for my courtier trait, and holy crap I loved every single page! The world is so vivid and gorgeous with just the right dose of creepy. I need to get the rest of the series immediately!
My secondary character trait TBR for the #MakeYourMythTaker readathon
This was fun but fairly slight and formulaic in places. It's been a long time since I was the target age range for YA, and I wasn't into love triangle stories even when I was a teen. On the other hand, I tore through it in two days and it reminded me that I actually do like reading, so overall it's a pick. I'll put the sequel on my list but don't expect to get to it very soon.
Looking forward to my #BookSpin pick this month! I've been meaning to read this more or less since it came out, I think, but have never gotten to it. It's a library book so I jumped right on that download. YA fantasy should be a nice break.
1. Tagged! And loving it so far
2. Too many choices 😂 City of Girls is my book club book so I should probably get onto that next

Hey #BFCr4 littens! I headed up to Khao Yai National Park for a long weekend and won't be back until tomorrow afternoon, so I'm afraid my weekly check-in well be a little late. Instead, here's my top pic of the day - a gibbon looking wistfully into the distance

Winding down after a long day of travelling and nature spotting - today's critters included a snake, several insects, and two million bats 🐍 🐛 I'm also enjoying the crazy paintings on the wall of my room!
It's half term, it's sunny, and I've got a book in one hand and a coffee in the other. What else do you need??
I loved this book!! You really don't have an option to question what's going on as you're thrown into a world where Alex is a bruja and trying to reject her powers before her Deathday. Things don't work out as planned and sometimes we need to realize that what we think of as burdens are really our greatest strengths. #POCMCParanormal #Booked2019 #Autumn

I've been on dozens of roller coasters but the Cyclone will beat the living shit out of you and gloat about it!!! It's the roughest ride I've been on with the Wildcat at Hershey Park following a close second! 😬🎢😫
At this point, it feels a lot like the Mulan Twisted Tale, Reflection.
Great stack from the library sale! $5 😄 Half I‘ve read, half are new to me.
“I search for you in lost fields.
Hear me, my dear. Your loved ones wait here.”
Not usually a fan of YA, but this book was awesome! I loved the characters and the world.
Some fun holiday reading (I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would!)
Def appreciate YA fantasy (urban fantasy? magical realism?) w/a different kind of magic than we usually get—brujas & their traditions, powers, & lore, all really interesting & unique. Oddly though, I found the first half of this more intriguing than the rest, even though the latter portion is probably supposed to be more exciting. Pacing was off, & the romance angles were....weirdly handled, IMO. May still read the 2nd one, tho. 3/5 ⭐️
This has pretty mixed reviews, but I‘m in the mood for some spooky magic shit, so I‘m gonna give it a shot #nowreading
I loved this Dia de los Muertos inspired book! Alex is a bruja and hates having powers. So at her Deathday party, she tries to get rid of them, but ends up sending her family to Los Lagos. Then Alex and her friends have to go to save them. It's not original but it's fun. Plus the classic YA love triangle involves 2 females, so that's new. #YA #fun
This book was definitely different from anything else I have ever read. The amount of imagery that went into this book was fantastic. Alex, for me, had a lot of growth as a character and I loved that. I did find some aspects of the plot towards the end predictable and I felt the ending was rushed. However, the love interest plot twist was FANTASTIC! I will definitely be picking up the sequel.
Cuddling up by the fire with the blanket gifted to me by @melyndarae and my "About or set on Halloween" book for #Popsugar2018 :) I had to take a little bit of liberty with this one since I was having such a hard time finding a book for this prompt, but it is pretty spooky, so I think it will be ok :)
A fun book full of magic and brujas and fate! ✨
I fell into this story and world so quickly and, while I didn‘t enjoy the last third as much, it‘s a solid pick!
#bruja #witchyreads
I wouldn‘t NOT listen to it, given the choice, but I found it a bit lackluster and disjointed. I‘ll read others‘ reviews of the next book in the series before I read it. #readathon @DeweysReadathon
I knew I was going to buy the sequel to this book before I finished this one. It was really good. I‘m a fan of all of this: the world building, the plot, the characters, the magic. All of it.
I started this book today. I will finish either tonight or early tomorrow and then I will buy the sequel tomorrow. It‘s so damn good and I want so much more.
On another note, today was rough. I wont lie. I‘m terrified of whats going to happen. The US has always been deeply flawed and it is heading in the wrong direction when once there was growth. I don‘t have words of encouragement but I‘m holding it together. I hope you are too.
This book is giving me everything I didn‘t know I needed right now. It‘s so well written and the bruja magic is something so entirely different than anything I‘ve read before. I‘m loving this. Loving.
I am so glad I got to meet her and get this book. Now it‘s time to dive in. Seems appropriate to read a witchy book by a Latinx writer during the later half of Hispanic Heritage month! I‘ve heard good things and she is amazing so I‘m ready!
