Aside from the blatant racism and an array of problematic things, this was a neat little story. The horses were so sassy and proud, and it was a bit amusing.

I think an unintentionally funny sentence was “And then they get married but not to each other“ and Lewis made it sound like Cor and Aravis got married only to quarrel more easily with each other. not gonna lie both got a snort out of me.

I just started this and boy oh boy has this aged poorly...

This book was good but definitely not the best in the series. It made me think of The little prince. Excited to be moving on to the next book in the series :)

From the viewpoint of the most unlikely of adventurers we learn that everyone‘s story is far more significant than they themselves can see. This book didn‘t age as well as the ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe‘, however it served its purpose as a much needed palate cleanser. Good to see Susan, Edmund, and Lucy again. Always a joy!

Starting this palate cleanser. Much needed after such an intense read :cough:Babel:cough: I‘m reading these in publication order not chronologically so this is book #5 for me!

I loved this book!!! It was great to see Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy again. I also enjoyed seeing the new characters in the book. Loved the new story plot too!! I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Both of these books were rereads, they were fun but The Magician's Nephew seemed like it aged better. It's always nice to revisit Narnia once in a while 🦁

I didn‘t remember a lot of this one so it was good to revisit it. We‘re back in Narnia during the time of King Peter & Edmund and Queens Susan and Lucy, who are adults in this story. The focus is more on Shasta and Bree, a runaway horse and boy.

Finished another book in C.S. Lewis series. I personally loved this book. Next is prince Caspian! 🤩😊

It's probably even more problematic than the other Narnia books, but The Horse and His Boy is still a fun little romp for young and old.

Meh. We get the Pevensies back for this story, but as Narnian rulers and not as precocious children, and it wasn't enough to save the story. This one had racial sterotypes along with a bland adventure. It had a few bright spots, but even though it was only 4 hours on audio, the story and narrator made this a bit of a slog to get through. Perhaps this story would have benefited from my reading it. Oh well!

I meant to post about this earlier in the month, but I forgot.

This book felt more like the first books to me. It was fun and full of adventure. I'm really curious now how things will play out in the last book.

It took me an awfully long time to read this book because I was bored for the first 7 chapters. After that, it began to pick up, and I read from chapter 8 to the end today. I understand the complaints about the racism — the Calormen are stereotypes of people from the Middle East. And that name for the people and the country! Calormene, really? In the end, I liked the story, so I gave it a pick instead of a so-so. #narniareadalong

I‘m in the minority on this one. This is the first time I didn‘t finish a #NarniaReadalong on time. Despite the return of the Pevensie children, It didn‘t keep me interested and even the British accent on audio didn‘t make it any better. I only gave this two stars because I can‘t bare to give Lewis one. On to my series favorite next.

I honestly did not remember any of this one from when I read it as a child. Although I loved the adventure part, I found the turban wearing, scimitar carrying, slave owning, worshipers of a false god (not Aslan) a bit more prejudiced/stereotyped to me now as an adult and maybe more of a side comment on the Crusades/Muslims (in a justifying way) than I think Lewis intended, despite his Christian themes. And of course in this tale, the good guys ⤵️

Really enjoyed revisiting this one. For some reason, it was one of my least favorites growing up, but I liked it more this time around. Maybe reading it at a slower paced helped?? I also liked the underlying theme about how things - even bad ones - happen for a reason. As always, thanks for hosting the #NarniaReadalong @CaffeineAndCandy - this has been a great way to finally get around to a reread of this series!!!

My current #NarniaReadalong book has a #Horse on the cover.

This is probably one of the books in the series I felt I remembered the least about, and it was another very enjoyable reread. I think what I miss in this one is kids traveling from our world to Narnia, instead Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy are more in the background as kings and queens.

So far it feels like my favorite!! 🤩

This was a fun adventure to read. It reminds us that our stories have been guided in ways unknown to us.

Audiobook

Not my favorite in the series.
I‘ll be honest I think I zoned out and missed something cause at some point I lost track of what was going on. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Talking horse, orphan child is actually a prince, and of course Aslan.

Started this today. I can already tell it‘s not going to be high on the list in this series. I know I put this on all the posts I make about the Chronicles of Narnia but ... I‘m reading in publication order so this is book 5 not 3.

This book was actually quite boring and if it wasn‘t for the brief appearance of Susan, you could hardly tell it was a Narnia book. I could hardly care about the Shasta character at all, and really the only part I really liked was where Aslan kept him from falling off a cliff by breathing on his shoulder.

Starting this book tonight. If you‘ve read the series, what was your favorite book and why?

Less my favourite than it used to be but still a fun adventure.

I'm not sure about this book, it felt like a typical filler that you find in every series. A book to beef out the series but doesnt relate to or impact anything.

I also feel it failed to portray the magic and amazement of the worlds that the two previous books do so well. Mr Tumnus has lost his personality, it just all fell flat for me.

Ah! Day 2: audiocooked & audioplanted after journaling after first phone appt with my therapist in this time of social distancing. I‘m about to do a meditate before I shower before bed.
Day 1: forgot to post yesterday, I was so tired from my extra shift. Sat outside and meditated on the wind and cold after work. Enjoyed some of Linda Hogan‘s writing before work. It‘s a struggle at work (I am grateful but tired) and the meditating is much needed
