School for Psychics: Book One
School for Psychics: Book One | K C Archer
41 posts | 42 read | 66 to read
An entrancing new series starring a funny, impulsive, and sometimes self-congratulatory young woman who discovers she has psychic abilities--and then must decide whether she will use her skills for good or...not. Teddy Cannon isn't your typical twenty-something woman. She's resourceful. She's bright. She's scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn't realize: she's actually psychic. When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: it's competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive. They'll learn telepathy, telekinesis, investigative skills, and SWAT tactics. And if students survive their training, they go on to serve at the highest levels of government, using their skills to protect America, and the world. In class, Teddy befriends Lucas, a rebel without a cause who can start and manipulate fire; Jillian, a hipster who can mediate communication between animals and humans; and Molly, a hacker who can apprehend the emotional state of another individual. But just as Teddy feels like she's found where she might belong, strange things begin to happen: break-ins, missing students, and more. It leads Teddy to accept a dangerous mission that will ultimately cause her to question everything--her teachers, her friends, her family, and even herself. Set in a world very much like our own, School for Psychics is the first book in a stay-up-all night series.

Life in the dessert doesn‘t often bring enough rain (for this pluviophile). But it‘s been a gray week and a very rainy morning. It. Is. Glorious. 💙🌧⛈🌧💙 (Pic is a view of a corner of our backyard .. flowers courtesy of prior owner.)

I finished this book last night in a long sprint. I found it frustrating and a bit overdone, but nevertheless entertaining and quick paced. Overall 🌟🌟🌟. See Goodreads for full review (link in profile).

About halfway through this one. Kind of reminds me of a more mature Harry Potter or maybe a cousin to the Magicians...but with psychics

⭐⭐⭐⭐
I dreaded finishing this book because I knew I was going to be missing some these characters and I already am.
Truth be told, Archer created an interesting set of characters that felt very real and flawed and I loved that because I can relate to a flawed character.

If this had been presented as a book for young adults, I would have been all over it. However, the book features people in their 20s and over who whine like teenagers and that just blew it for me. I asked @MidnightBookGirl to summarize the ending for me so I wouldn't have to keep reading.

There are a lot of fans out there for this book, but it wasn't for me.

MidnightBookGirl Wait? Did you DNF The Book of M or School for Pyschics? 7y
TheSpineView It is a weird story to say the least. I am currently reading . I have 80 or so pages left. If it had been good I would never have quit reading with so few pages left. 7y

I saw this at the store when I was buying lunch, and I just had to have it! It blurbs as “Harry Potter with a cast of millennials” BUT I think it‘ll be a fun, sassy read with a touch of magical elements to it. #schoolforpsychics #mountTBR

OMG! I really enjoyed this title! It sucked me in from the beginning and I could not put it down! I'd recommend this fast read title for something different. I thought it was well written, moved along at a suitable pace, was intriguing, and left me searching for when the next in the series come out, but considering this one was just released April 3, I'm going to be waiting a bit.

⭐️⭐️⭐️: the last third salvaged this book for me. Way too many characters and a think plot line left this one needing so much more. #Psychic #School

Teddy Cannon has a gambling habit & a large debt to a loan shark. To make matters worse, she's now banned from most of the casinos in Vegas. The 1st chapter opens with her entering a casino incognito & ends with her being recruited to attend a school - for psychics. A mysterious man appears to throw the loan shark off her trail while explaining that she isn't just a gifted gambler, she has psychic abilities that could be of use to the U.S.

kyraleseberg (Cont'd) We follow Teddy through her first year at Whitfield Institute as she begins to learn her psychic abilities and how to control them, and make friends with a small group labeled the Misfits. While it's no secret she was adopted as a baby, clues are left to suggest her birth parents were involved in a school for psychics before her birth and that their untimely deaths were no accident. 7y
kyraleseberg (Cont'd) School for Psychics tends to jump between a few large plot lines and the people with ill intent were so glaringly obvious, I found myself rolling my eyes each time a confrontation was about to occur and then was foiled by the smallest convenient interruption and then forgotten. 7y
kyraleseberg (Cont'd) Interesting concept, likable characters, and a quick entertaining read. I can see the plots slowly culminating to divulge the full story at the end of the series and I'm invested enough in the overall story line to continue on and find out what happens!
Thanks to Simon & Schuster and #Netgalley for providing a digital #ARC for review.

Meh. This wasn't a horrible book but it didnt completely meet my expectations. It has a young adult feel to it, but is marketed as adult fiction and definitely has adult moments. I jist had trouble remembering that the characters were in their mid to late 20s because they acted sometimes like high school or freshmen in college kids.

Parent pickup reading material. Not too bad so far. Definitely feels like something I've read or seen already which is a little disappointing. I also have to keep reminding myself that Teddy is 24 because for some reason, her actions and dialogue make me feel like she's younger. Hmmm

I am so about this book. School for Psychics had a bit of everything I love: supernatural elements in a "normal" world, an angsty main character who is faulty to the max, but who you end up growing to love, a mystery that keeps turning on its head, and a cast of characters that have their own problems & self-interest.
Bring on the next installment - I'm ready for Teddy and her antics, her problems, and her growth as a psychic.
Thanks to NetGalley!

Such fun! A girl in her mid 20‘s is recruited to attend a school for those with psychic abilities. A sort of Harry Potter for adults. Boarding school. Evil secret organization. Dead parents. Kindly head of school. Small group of misfit friends. All familiar tropes but I really couldn‘t stop reading it. Thanks to #NetGalley. (It‘s a read now book if you‘re a member) This one comes out in April.

Snagging every second I can to get in some reading. My MIL is with my youngest and my oldest is at school. I‘m just sitting in the car in the parking lot. These moments are so rare - like 💰.
