Bk3 of #JoysOfJune #readathon is done. A reread of the 2nd book in the Wheel Of Time on audiobook before the S2 premiere on Prime(not that the series follows the books enough for me🙄)Rand, Mat & Perrin are chasing Padan Fain to Falme after he stole the Horn of Valere & the dagger from Fal Dara. Meanwhile, Egwene, Nyneave & Elayne, studying in the White Tower, are lured into the Seanchan‘s clutches by the Black Ajah. #SeriesLove2023 #BookspinBingo

📚 Definitely Lanfear from the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan! That lady was ALL about the drama! 😂

📚 I can absolutely see her getting really into a villain from a Shakespeare production! She'd make a great Lady Macbeth! 😁

TheSpineView Great choice! Thanks for playing! 2y
DaveGreen7777 Oooh, Lanfear is a perfect choice! 😀🌙 Of course, if she played Lady MacBeth, she‘d rewrite it so that she‘d win in the end! 😂 2y

I had 5 books on my summer break TBR and with 8 days remaining I still have 2 left. As always I tend to get distracted by all the "shiny new" books & forget about any set TBR I have.

The Black House-Stephen King/Peter Straub ✔
The Rose & the Thorn- Michael J. Sullivan ✔
Thunderhead-Neal Shusterman ✔
The Great Hunt-Robert Jordan
An Echo in the Bone-Diana Gabaldon

Here's hoping I can at least finish this one before I go back.

The Green Ajah, with more than one Warder each, remind me of the green dragons of Pern nd their riders, who … are known for having several partners, shall we say.

humouress The predicament Egwene found herself in always frustrated me. This time, knowing how it goes, it still had me gripped and resenting any interruptions to my reading. 2y
humouress The first book ended momentously and, despite a slowish start, this second book did too. I suppose the planned trilogy that turned into 14 books was still on track at that point. 2y

I spent yesterday afternoon volunteering with the horses of Riding for the Disabled. I know that in a cast of thousands the animals aren‘t even bit players but it hurts when Jordan treats them so callously. Red has served Rand faithfully for a long time; I thought, since he‘s been given a name in this series, he‘d get more respect.

Picking up again. At this point it‘s not hard to jump back in; Rand is riding across the mountains with his 3 companions. And so we come (ch 21) to the inn of the Nine Rings, named after a story that is one of Rand‘s favourites. Hmm … now where have I heard a story about 9 rings?…
I‘m finding this story very readable even though I‘m re-reading it. I‘m still going ‘I can‘t look …. but what happens next?‘

humouress Ch 23: the girls have reached the White Tower at last. Egwene is excited but Nynaeve is determined to pass her testing to bypass novice status to become an Accepted so she can pay Moiraine back for everything that has happened to the Emmondsfielders. 2y

Bk3 of April & #AwesomeApril #readathon was done yesterday. Another combo of audio & print reread, Bk2 of WOT is more of a quest story even compared to the 1st. It‘s all about the hunt for the Horn Of Valere & the Ruby dagger from Shadar Logoth to heal Mat from its taint. Another winner in my book👍 #bookspinbingo #seriesread2022

Still trying to clear a path through library books and group reads to read this book. I noticed, the last time I re-read it, that it wasn‘t until ch 9 that we leave Fal Dara even though Rand has been trying from ch 1. But it really gets going after that. Currently on ch 4 …
There are a lot of names from Arthurian legends (and others) but I‘ve never managed to fit them into the same places.

humouress Ch 9: Leavetakings. In the courtyard with the horses now! I‘ve not been doing well with re-reads these past Fw years. I remember the general gist of books but not the details. But I do love the details in this story. I notice that apart from Bella, Mandarb, Aldieb and occasionally Red, most of the other horses fall by the wayside, unnamed. I feel a bit sad for them, especially since I volunteer with Riding for the Disabled. (edited) 3y
humouress Ch 12: Woven in the Pattern. The group from Emond‘s Field have split up and now Nynaeve and Egwene are leaving Fal Dara for Tar Valon. 3y

WOW. I have no other words. The ending was amazing; I sat and didn't move until I finished the last of the book! I can't wait to see what the next book is like, now that it's revealed that the Lady Selene is Lanfear and Rand has proclaimed himself the Dragon Reborn.

I wanted to love The Great Hunt the way I loved The Eye of the World. Unfortunately, I didn't. After all of the journeying in book one, I was hoping book two would settle in one place and really focus on the world. But there was more journeying to do. Plus, I'm still having a hard time remembering the lore of the world. I'm not new to fantasy, so I don't know why that's been a problem.

Re-reading this series because I only got up to around book 10 the 1st time. I‘ve always wondered about Tam al Thor‘s story. Was it ever told in full?

xicanti We get little bits of it, but no big reveals. 3y
humouress @xicanti Ah, that‘s a shame 3y
humouress Finding the first 4 chapters where Rand is running around Fal Dara a bit slow. The very first time it was a nice change of pace after all the action in the first book but recently I‘ve found it harder to re-read books and it‘s dragging a bit. Plus I keep getting interrupted by library books 😅 (edited) 3y

Liked this book better than the first, I think, which is unusual! It broke off in its own direction, away from some of the similarities I noticed to other fantasy books, and it went far more in-depth for the characters. I love Perrin and am constantly annoyed by Mat. 9/10

Book 2 complete

TurnerofPages Starting this now! I've had the entire collection since they came out, but just because of the sheer size of the entire saga I put it off for so many years. No more! The Amazon Prime series coming out gave me the push to read them! I will not watch them until I'm on at least book 4... just in case! Happy reading 📖 3y
TugstenDragon @TurnerofPages Nice that‘s the reason I started reading too! Yes I didn‘t start watching till I finished the fourth book haha but it‘s looking like it will just be the first book but context is great!! 3y
TurnerofPages Awesome! I was hoping they stick to the books. Too many times I've seen great stories ruined by poetic license (best example is the entire second movie of The Hobbit!!!). So, since I've read the first book, maybe it's safe to watch the series? 3y

Bk2 of September & Bk11 of #LittensDressedInBlood is done! I was planning on reading the WOT series with other books in between each novel in the set but I couldn‘t help myself and went straight into bk2. The Edmonds Field five are further along their journey towards who‘ll they‘ll become, most fighting it as much as possible. A great second book, it sets the stage well for what‘s to come. #SeriesRead2021 #StackingTheSeries #ChunksterChallenge👇

I finally have a new space for #audiopuzzling! This one‘s been a lot of fun so far, and I‘m still having a great time with my Wheel of Time reread. I‘m surprised at how much I like Kate Reading‘s narration, too. I listened to a more recent production of hers a couple years back and found her diction fake as all get out, but she‘s fine here. Book 2 of the Wheel of Time picks up right where Book 1 left off. With all of the introductions out of the way we dive right into the action this time. The slow build of Book 1 and the large cast of characters that were developed start paying off, as Jordan is able to break up the group and tell his story from multiple locations that really gives a sense of the world they inhabit. The plot advances considerably too, by the end. Can't wait for #3!

2️⃣ I do! I love to play symphonic metal or power metal in the background while reading fantasy novels, the orchestrations often blend perfectly with the story. There were so many twist and turns in this second book in The Wheel of Time saga. I felt this was much more interesting and complex than the first. Some questions have been answered, but more have been raised. The growth of all the main characters in The Great Hunt was incredible. There are scenes that will have you wanting to cheer and some that will have you angry. This one makes it feel like the Roller Coaster of Time.

This one is a soft pick. It's definitely not as good as book one, but it ended strong, and I feel like the series as a whole is worth getting through the less terrific ones. I'm slowly catching up to book 6, where I left off. I'm not sure if I'll pick up any more of these this year, but we'll see.
