Should be nice but it‘s also a draaaaaag. Too wordy, too much descriptions. Good book, nonetheless.

Due to the excessive use of the N word, I was not able to enjoy this novel. The author used it in and outside of dialogue, and although at times, it did establish the setting and character, it felt unnecessary and vulgar.
I like the idea of vampires on a steamboat, but that's as far as it goes.
I didn't care for the characters and the story provided nothing new. Had I not buddy read this, I would have DNFed.
I really enjoyed this historical fiction novel about an old steamboat captain that finds himself travelling down the Mississippi with a group of vampires. Abner Marsh is a terrific character and I enjoyed all the historical details.

April #doublespin done! @TheAromaofBooks
A good vampire book, I enjoyed it. It's no fault of the book that I hibernated it for like a year... Glad I finally picked it back up and finished it. (sadly this doesn't even begin to catch me up with #BookSpin, but hey, it's something)
#BookSpin day! Thanks @TheAromaofBooks 😊
I didn't get to my #BookSpin burning bridges in March, but the next book was called this month, free falling. So that will be my next series to focus on. And my #doublespin Fevre Dream has been in hibernation for ages, so I'm glad it got picked for me to get back to it.
Once again I'm doing the bingo with my monthly tbr list too.
#BookSpin list ready to go for Feb 🙂
All books that have been on my #BookSpin lists before and either not pulled, or I never got to them.
@TheAromaofBooks
I haven‘t done a photo book challenge in a long time and I‘m a bit late getting started but I wanted to start the year getting reacquainted with my library and what better way than a book challenge ☺️

I‘m pretty picky about my vampires, but I enjoyed Martin‘s take. He did play with a lot of the lore, but what he kept, he developed into a pretty interesting concept. The characters, of course, were all so well rounded and interesting. Martin‘s skill at world building and character development is on point in this novel.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Success! All my Halloween reads done! Although a little overdue 🤣🎃
I‘ve been focusing on Vampires this October. Probably won‘t finish this before November, but eager to see what Martin does with the lore!
I like a good solid vampire story!
While some people don‘t necessarily like this book (George R.R. Martin‘s meandering story telling and a lot of info about steamboats) I loved this!
I enjoyed the characters and the relationships, there were parts that made me sad, and I‘m not going to lie I quite enjoyed the steamboats 🤷🏼♀️
This has been on my #TBR forever! So I am glad I managed to pick it up this month for my #DoubleSpin
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.
Day 91th
Join the fun if you want!

I don‘t like steamboats in America. There was nothing ground breaking about these vampires
Fans of the Westeros-set books will recognize Martin‘s descriptiveness (I love it!!) but find a different structure here. The whole story takes place on or near the Mississippi River in 1857-1870. Good vampires, bad vampires, good people, bad people. I loved it. I think Abner Marsh and Joshua York made a great team and told a great story.
I listened to a chunk of this on audio while working on this Christmas puzzle. Finished in print last night.
I took a break from all of my cozy, sweet Christmas books to read something the total opposite of cozy and sweet!! Loving it. #currentlyreading
#3Books That I've recommended to people. 💫
1.) A Clockwork Orange. It's such a classic, written so well; it's brutal and occasionally hilarious. 🥛
2.) Fevre Dream. It's a 1800's vampire tale with an Anne Rice feel around it. 🧛♂️
3.) Recently recommended this spectacular book to my girlfriend, who also enjoyed it. Go read it!! Go read them all!! 😁✅

Lots of info about steamboats in the 1860s. Not really scary. The story seams to repeat itself multiple times.
You can recognize Martin's style in this book. Great story, and characters in a slow paced vampire tale.
Fevre Dream! One of my all time favorites of the vamp genre!
A steamboat full of vampires on the Mississippi in 1857. What‘s not to like?
If you're a fan of The Vampire Chronicles, you'll dig this!

So if you put Anne Rice, Mark Twain and Joseph Conrad into a blender and fire it up you get this wonderful novel. A well constructed and original vampire novel this book delivers. You get an amazing feel for life in the riverboat trade in the 1850s and 60s and the tension keeps ramping up with some nice twists. A little slow in places, the great characters make up for it. Highly recommended.
Time to get butt in gear. Looking forward to seeing GRRM at #thrillerfest next week and figure I should try to read some of his older work to learn more of what he is all about.
Anyone read this? Apparently it's historical fiction set in the mid-19th century featuring vampires. Color me intrigued. #kindledeal
This book was so good. I didnt realize until it came on sale who the author was. It's not the typical vampire book but yet it has stayed with me 5+ years.
I can't resist acquiring at least a couple new books when I visit a new city. On my recent trip to Quincy, I immediately found an armful of cheap books I wanted, but made myself narrow it down to just these two. Spent under $2 total!
Took me a while to get into but really enjoyed it by the end. Loved the central relationship and the atmosphere practically oozed from the pages.

I have to continue with sorting my life out today, but first, in bed with a coffee and a bit of this...
I also picked up these!!! I've been dying to read them 😍
This is one of my favourite vampire novels and it isn't even scary. Abner and Joshua are unforgettable characters and the setting is perfect. #vampires #octphotochallenge
