Last Black Unicorn
Last Black Unicorn | Tiffany Haddish
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From stand-up comedian, actress, and breakout star of Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish, comes The Last Black Unicorn, a sidesplitting, hysterical, edgy, and unflinching collection of (extremely) personal essays, as fearless as the author herself. Growing up in one of the poorest neighborhoods of South Central Los Angeles, Tiffany learned to survive by making people laugh. If she could do that, then her classmates would let her copy their homework, the other foster kids she lived with wouldn't beat her up, and she might even get a boyfriend. Or at least she could make enough money--as the paid school mascot and in-demand Bar Mitzvah hype woman--to get her hair and nails done, so then she might get a boyfriend. None of that worked (and she's still single), but it allowed Tiffany to imagine a place for herself where she could do something she loved for a living: comedy. Tiffany can't avoid being funny--it's just who she is, whether she's plotting shocking, jaw-dropping revenge on an ex-boyfriend or learning how to handle her newfound fame despite still having a broke person's mind-set. Finally poised to become a household name, she recounts with heart and humor how she came from nothing and nowhere to achieve her dreams by owning, sharing, and using her pain to heal others. By turns hilarious, filthy, and brutally honest, The Last Black Unicorn shows the world who Tiffany Haddish really is--humble, grateful, down-to-earth, and funny as hell. And now, she's ready to inspire others through the power of laughter.

One last review from my September reads. This was the first time in a long time I read an entire book in less than 24 hours, I was so entertained beginning to end. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea but if you're familiar with Haddish and her kind of humor and you're not easily offended and looking for a quick read to make you laugh, I highly recommend this 🦄🌈💕

lynneamch Really enjoyed the audio. I had no idea she has led such a complicated and interesting life. 1y

An honest and hilarious account of Tiffany Haddish‘s life. She is incredibly talented and forth coming with her life experiences and less than perfect journey to fame. The audiobook is the bomb. Definitely something to catch and not miss.

The book I read called “The Last Black Unicorn” by Tiffany Haddish is what I chose to do my connotation and denotation. The denotation of the title is that there is only one black unicorn left. And the connotation for the title is Tiffany describing her self and what she has overcome.

This book was so funny and you could 100% tell that Tiffany had written this book. It wasn't clean or written perfectly it was messy and didn't always sound 100% PC, but it wasn't offensive either, it was just a woman writing how she felt and what she experienced. I loved it.

After my third memoir by a famous person I‘ve since realized that I don‘t watch enough entertainment to really follow the shows and other people they talk about in their memoirs. No big deal, but just not apparently for me.

5⭐️ Let me start this by emphasizing that Tiffany Haddish is my girl. With that being said, this book was nothing like I expected it to be. Now that‘s not a bad thing, I‘m just saying that it wasn‘t anything like I was a expecting. If you‘re going into the story to just have a few laughs, it‘s not for you. But if you truly want to know who Tiffany is, and have a few laughs along the way, this is an amazing read.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I felt guilty when I laughed sometimes. She brought humor to some horrendous situations. 4y

Tiffany Haddish is hysterically funny, and I love when people narrate their own memoirs. I had no idea she's lived the kind of life she has. Everything about it is just... wild. And she somehow made even the most surreal things amusing. She keeps saying that she's using her bad situations to be funny, and it absolutely works.
However, this needs a domestic abuse/violence tw. A big one.

March 11, 2020 Ok. This book is not what I expected at all. When I saw this cover, it made me think that Tiffany Haddish was some kind of angel. She looks like she is part "angel" and part "unicorn". Obviously she is dressed up as a black unicorn (verbatim what thee title says). But once one reads what she says inside her book, she takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions of how she was treated by people when she grew up. So yes; just read

I admit I wasn't really a fan of Tiffany Haddish. I found her a bit obnoxious. BUT apparently I am a fan because I thought this book was HILARIOUS! And also tragic, as she has been through a lot of horrific stuff in her life. But even when she's telling you about some messed up s#&% you're still laughing. Another strong woman, who I need to give more credit to.

Hilarious, of course, but so painful at times I had to set it aside for a bit. I listened to the audiobook and hearing her read some of these anecdotes in her own voice really cranked up the emotional impact. In any case, gives you a new appreciation for how Haddish got where she is in the comedy world, and yes! Lots of laughs too.

I had never even heard of Tiffany Haddish before I read this, but the title and cover intrigued me. The stuff about her childhood was incredible - she has overcome so much trauma and horrible circumstances. But then she gets to her 20s, and I couldn't stand her. I couldn't care less about swearing or anything like that, but she's mean and clueless about how she effects other people. It became a one-star book for me in that section.

Krisjericho But then, she grows up a little, and honestly, I added another star because that story about Jada Pinkett Smith not knowing what a Groupon was - that shit was hilarious. There were some really funny parts, but it just wasn't worth wading though the rest. I'll bet her comedy is amazing, but this book wasn't. 6y
Scochrane26 This is exactly how I felt about the book. I listened to it & almost stopped listening towards the middle. 6y

Tiffany Haddish had one heck of a life. While she's able to bring a lot of humor to her stories, there is also a realness and seriousness to them. She has gone through so much from having an abusive mom, going through the foster system, marrying an abusive husband... Through all that she has kept a positive attitude and become incredibly successful. She is an inspiring woman! #girlpower #humor #funny #serious #rolemodel #love #audiobook

I remember this getting a lot of hype when it first came out, so I‘m sure there are tons of readers out there who this book really speaks to. Sadly I wasn‘t one of them. Moving on to new material.

IndoorDame @BiblioLitten @wordzie not sure about the cover art. definitely a strange unicorn costume. but in one of the chapters I did actually listen to she describes getting that as a nickname in grade school because of a wart in the middle of her forehead... 6y

Hilarious! After watching Girls Trip, I was an instant fan of Tiffany Haddish. And her book did not disappoint.

I‘ve only listened to 3 audiobooks in my life, but it was for sure the right call to listen to this book; Tiffany‘s narration is the cherry on top.

Be warned though there are problematic bits, which is pretty typical with comedians.
