The Silent Wife
The Silent Wife: A Novel | A. S. A. Harrison
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Nicole Kidman, fans ofThe Girl on the TrainandGone Girlwill loveThe Silent Wife"I gobbled it down in one sitting." Anne Lamott,PeopleJodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that cant be made, and promises that wont be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.From the Trade Paperback edition.

It is not what it appears to be: it is not a standard mystery or juicy suburban thriller. If you are looking for a mainstream Ruth Ware/Liane Moriarty/etc., it will probably frustrate you.
This is a novel about secrets and choices and keeping your mouth shut when you should speak, and being passive aggressive when you should be assertive, and doing these things over and over until it is too late and you can‘t take them back and violence occurs.

I really enjoyed this book, until the end. It's well written, about a couple, infidelity and what someone will go to to keep their home or protect their child? The end was so anticlimactic and I was like what?! That's it!? And what did that past relationship have to do with anything? Weird. Maybe I missed something?

My first beach read of our vacation earned that categorization. A. S. A. Harrison's The Silent Wife is a page turner that revels in the minds of its two protagonists: Jodi and Todd, a couple for twenty years who may be reaching the end of their relationship. Todd is a serial cheater who relies on Jodi's silent acceptance of his infidelity. Jodi is a psychotherapist who has a less-than-stellar understanding of her own mind and feelings. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod The book alternates between their perspectives, revealing the unraveling of their intertwined lives. Solid suspense novel. 7mo

THIS. BOOK. Has made me so happy last night.

I was struggling with the #abookpublishedposthumously prompt for the #pop19 reading challenge and I discovered that this one works for that prompt. Yay!!!

Also, it's pretty good. I'm enjoying her style of writing.

After a long weekend in Upper Michigan to be with my sister and the rest of my family, it feels good to be back home in Texas.

Side note, my nephew Elliott likes to call me "Cassia". This kid melts my heart. Oh and my Step-mom told me to "start loving on guys" to give her a granddaughter. She's crazy ??

This was a super fast listen and riveting. It felt less like a thriller and more like straight fiction commentating on relationships and marriage. There aren't any too surprising twists, but very easy to become invested in the story. The sessions with Jodi's own therapist earlier in life were a bit boring and pointless, but I enjoyed the rest!

RadicalReader @Kaylamburson take it it feels like you‘re in Ferris Beuller‘s class alongside him when the therapy sessions were mentioned 😂😂😂😂 12mo

Believe it or not this was my first try at a psychological thriller. It wasn't what I expected. Slow read, forced myself to finish. Hoping I find a psychological thriller that meets the hype.

A not very thrilling psychological thriller about a dysfunctional marriage between a cheating scumbag and his Martha Stewart-like common-law wife. She does everything to make his life run smoothly and he thanks her by impregnating the daughter of his best friend (ewwww) and leaving her for this woman half his age. I really couldn‘t blame her for wanting him dead.

A psychological thriller, this is a book about relationships, and how destructive they can be. Jodi and Todd, a couple who see things differently. They live in Chicago in a gorgeous waterfront high rise. That exquisite space is a character in itself. The novel‘s format of “he said”; “she said” appeals to me. (This seems to be a current popular strategy.) I felt as though there were many unanswered questions, and the ending wrapped up too quickly.

I made the mistake of looking at reviews for this book about halfway through reading it. They were not good by any means, and I think that slowed down my progress because I stopped being concerned about the story. All in all it was okay, nothing special though. Jodi and Todd weren‘t particularly likable characters. If I had to star it... ⭐️⭐️

I finished this audiobook today while driving to my meeting. Overall, the story kept me interested. The story went back and forth from the wife‘s to the husband‘s perspective. The characters were definitely flawed, which made the story interesting in my opinion. It enabled me to not necessarily root for either one and to be satisfied with the ending.

I‘m not sure what I think of this one. It was about a woman who‘s longtime boyfriend leaves her for another woman. The blurb on the back made it sound really suspenseful, but it was really nothing like the description. The twist at the end wasn‘t much of a twist also.

Terrible. The underlying storyline had potential but this book was, essentially, one giant run-on sentence. It jumped back and forth between past and present but was not done well. This book needs to go back to a real editor. I, literally, read paragraphs of this book 3-4 times trying to make it make sense.

3⭐️. The Silent Wife was good. The characters were well developed. While you may not like Jodi and Todd as people, you knew exactly who they were. The book creatively alternates the point of view of the story between Jodi and Todd, referred to as Her and Him. I really thought this worked well for this book, giving us both sides of the story. Pacing was slow. https://lharvey250.tumblr.com/post/160227552329/the-silent-wife-a-s-a-harrison-m...

Finished The Silent Wife today. I'm not sure why the reviews are so mixed on this one. Were the characters unlikable? Sure, but that's kinda what I liked about it. And the author's writing style, which might otherwise be distracting, seemed to fit with her intention to create unlikable but interesting characters. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I read again? Probably not. Would I read something else by this author? Definitely!
