An Anonymous Girl: The First Three Chapters | Greer Hendricks
The next novel of psychological suspense and obsession from the authors of the blockbuster bestseller The Wife Between Us Seeking women ages 1832 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed. When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all shell have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what shes thinking...and what shes hiding. As Jesss paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly. This one almost made me dizzy trying to figure out all of the twists! I didn‘t love the ending 🤯 but that‘s the way it goes sometimes with psychological thrillers! I would definitely recommend it though if you like psychological thrillers 😱 4🌟🌟🌟🌟

Another domestic suspense thriller from these authors! I love that Hendricks‘ and Pekkanen‘s plots are unique and take seemingly mundane characters and situations and make them sinister. Dr. Shields was an interesting psychological study as was the relationship with her husband.

Enjoying a quiet night at home with Friends on in the background!

How are you spending your Friday night?! 📚

tokorowilliamwallace I made an Ollies book haul earlier and then picked up some lower shelf small-batch whiskey and started an earlier Jefferey Deaver series from the late 80s last night (I think before his more popular Lincoln Rhyme came out). It seems very character-centric and full of pop culture references so far. 2y

This was good.

Jess sneaks into a study on morality lead by psychiatrist Dr Shields. Jess suspects there‘s more than DrS discloses, 1st she stays for the $$. But DrS knows her darkest secrets.

Jess was a very relatable character. The plot did meander. I called a couple of the twists and then wondered why it took a BIT to get to the reveal. But it was very immersive and creepy since it‘s told both from the perspective of Jess and Dr. Shields.

This was just okay for me. I‘m caught up on the Hendricks/Pekkanen books. I like them because they‘re not what everyone else is writing, but maybe there‘s a reason for that. 🤔

Jess is subject 52 in a study on morality run by a psychologist, but when the doctor brings her deeper in and uses Jess‘s confidences against her, she‘ll have to figure out what really is at the heart of this study.

This wraps up #MysteryMarch!

Started off strong but kind of fizzled out to me. Jessica becomes a participant in a psychological study which promises a lot of money (red flag). The seemingly perfect (red flag) Dr. Shields in charge of the project seems to have a magnetic hold on Jessica. Jessica‘s family is in need if $ so even when the requests of the study become more and more bizarre, she agrees. Meh

This was good. A bit predictable, I figured out most the twists. A woman in need of money sneaks into a psychology study that ends up being about morality. The doctor in charge of the study finds her interesting and uses her in her own twisted morality research.

An effortless page turner, this one grabbed me from the start and wouldn‘t let go. Disturbing, devious and so cleverly written, the relationship lines between the unreliable narrators and unlikable characters quickly blurred making it difficult to figure out who was predator and who was prey in this twisted game of cat and mouse. I gobbled this one up in one sitting. Fans of Riley Sager, B.A. Paris and Lisa Jewell will enjoy this one.

I was a pretty big fan of “The Wife Between Us” but this one was disappointing. It‘s set up well in the beginning but it‘s ultimately a slow paced book with no real pay off at the end. I give it a 3 for keeping me interested enough to want to know what happens but I wouldn‘t read it again.

Jessica is a 20 something living from paycheck to paycheck as a makeup artist in NYC until she happens upon an opportunity to be part of a paid psychlogical study. It's through there she meets Dr. Shields, who invites her to continue in more studies for even more money. It seems like a lucrative, win-win partnership. Jess needs to trust Dr. Shields, right? Wrong. This book is full of suspense. I recommend if you want to be on edge until the end.

Hated it. But I will say that this book is really front-loaded, meaning the beginning really draws the reader in, but by the middle of it, one is just reading to discover the highly predictable ending. I tend to love psychological suspense novels—used to read loads of the Alex Delaware novels by Jonathan Kellerman—so I couldn‘t wait to get to this one. The MC is a a clinical psychologist as well as a ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ professor at NYU, who has sophistication to burn along with plenty of money (to burn, it would seem, as she dispenses it with great abandon). The crux lies in her inability to trust her husband, and the faux ethical trials she puts in place in her classroom. Enter a young woman who, in her own rather unethical circumstances, is chosen as the test subject. Neither character has much meat on the bones, and when you add in the weak willed, ⬇️ (edited) 5y
gradcat ⬆️ philandering husband, a reader (like me) might find that they don‘t much like or care about any of these characters. This authorial team enjoys great hype pre-publication, and I just don‘t get it. Even the format drove me crazy. Perhaps the tagged one is better? ♥️ (edited) 5y
