I like Abby Jimenez's writing, but this story wasn't my favorite. Her characters are great but I am not a fan of the "let's not communicate for 80% of the book and just be angsty" trope- with a quick wrap up in the last few chapters.

This is my 1st by this author & I have mixed feelings. It was absolutely compulsively readable & I couldn‘t put it down. But it also had one of the main tropes that I don‘t enjoy, which is a misunderstanding or lying to the other person “for their own good”. I‘d always rather they tell the truth & let the other person make their own decision. That being said, I did care about the characters, and I immediately picked up the next book in the series.
This is my first Abby Jimenez book and I‘m so excited to start it.
SoI did end up finishing it. I am pretty good at DNFing when I am bored but when it‘s a train wreck sometimes it‘s hard to look away 🤣
This book unironically highlights the harm of the idolization of biological children IMO. As someone with PCOS who can certainly related to the struggles Kristen experiences with her cycle I was actually kind of excited to see this kind of representation in a FMC. ⬇️
Just started (ch 5). Each chapter is told from alternating POVs. I could do with less language. It‘s not OTT but it makes up a lot of the conversation which, in my life, doesn‘t happen
⭐️⭐️💫 Meh. I liked Jimenez‘s latest book so I‘m trying her earlier stuff. This was her first and my least favorite. MC is immature and deceitful (for reasons, but still), love interest is nice but also has some toxic touches “bitches be crazy” attitudes early on, and the middle 2/3 was basically manipulative relationship sabotage because MC can‘t have an adult conversation. But I did get through it in a couple of days. 🤷♀️
I need to get honest about what makes a book 5 star worthy for it's genre. For rom coms? Witty bantering, chemistry between characters. Who cares if it follows the same formula? So what if the characters in the story just need to tell each other the thing that's keeping them apart? You know if she explained what's on her mind he would 100% tell her if doesn't fn matter and they would live happily ever after. But that's what makes the story.
Yesterday was full of college baseball, dogs, and reading. I finished up this one early this morning and it‘s another win from Abby Jimenez. It wasn‘t my favorite, but still very enjoyable and touched on some pretty serious subjects. On to the next in the series…
Bio 🩸 and a book 📖
I loved this! Kristen‘s struggle with debilitating periods and the very real likelihood of infertility felt authentic and I really felt for her. And Josh was a total dreamboat right out of the gate! Their friendship was adorable, and their struggle to make it into something more was so emotional. This is another book that leaves me mad at myself for waiting so long to read it!

I fell into Abby Jimenez‘s books earlier this year after seeing her TikTok posts about her dogs (Stuntman Mike, pictured, is in this one). I enjoyed her Part of Your World Series earlier this year so I gave this prior series (The Friend Zone) a try. This is Book 1 & while I didn‘t love the MC always & a plot twist bummed me out & made me😭overall, I enjoyed it & will read the next 2 as my library e-book holds come in.
Wow okay this book destroyed me. I did not expect to cry so much 😭 Kristen's struggle with her debilitating periods & coming to terms with infertility is emotional & raw. She & Josh have such a sweet friendship while fighting their attraction to each other. I was only frustrated that she kept so much a secret for so long.
My first Jimenez but not my last. Coming prepared with tissues next time

I read my first Abby Jimenez book and then went through 95% of her backlist.
Read this one since it was the first in the Friend Zone series. But it triggered me for what happened to Sloan‘s fiancé. So it made it a lower pick for me. I didn‘t realize it was a trigger for me until it unexpectedly happened.
I liked Kristen and Josh. I like how her books handle some serious topics too. I‘m definitely going to start following this author.
I loved this book. The characters, the interaction. THAT PLOT TWIST! 😭 It was an amazing book to read. Iys a keeper for sure!

Oh @Soubhiville I ❤️ everything in my #muglove23 package! The book has been on my tbr for a long time and the bookmarks are so cute! And you really couldn‘t have picked two better flavors of hot chocolate. 😋
And I adore the mug…tigers are one of my favorite animals! 🐅
Thanks for hosting such a great swap @Cinfhen @TheKidUpstairs 😄
I did like the book but I did NOT like Kristen at all. Josh wanted a real relationship with her and she treated him horribly for quite a while. She did it to protect him and his future but if they had just communicated it would have been better. Still a good book worth reading
Spent my lunch finishing up this one with my Chris Evans bookmark and my kitty Sam. I liked it. I‘m not sure I was always in love with Kristen as a character but overall I did enjoy it
Look at the bookmark I made myself to go with my next read. I‘ve only become a fan of Chris Evans in the last year but man what a time for it to happen.
It‘s a larger bookmark than I typically go for, but considering the eye candy involved, I‘ll live 😂
Loved this book! I love the way Abby Jimenez writes. She keeps me totally intrigued in the story. I actually accidentally read the second book in this series first and loved that one too! Now I have to go find the third one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book caught me off-guard. I was prepared for a rom-com, which it was. But it was also a brutally honest look at infertility, periods, the challenge women face in getting proper healthcare and much more. Above all, it is a treatise on friendship and those who are there when the whole world crumbles around you. Romance, humor, heartbreak…this book has it all!
Finishing this one up today! I have to say that I did not see this ending coming 💔
I couldn‘t decide which books to bring on vacation so I just filled the bag!!

I‘m loving this book!! 💜💐💙
If you watched Big Bang does Kristen‘s mom remind you of Leonard‘s mom?! I just keep picturing her and her attitude!! 😵🥴
A little light reading with Yellowstone on in the background! Of course I‘m distracted when I look up and see Rip 🤣💙 If you know, you know!
Help!! I‘m still in a reading rut! I‘m enjoying the tagged book, but it‘s just not capturing my attention. I want a book that I can‘t put down!! What are your suggestions! What was your last 5 star book?! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟

Just started this one! Loving it so far!! 💙📚
I literally just finished this book!!! This is legit the best book I have read this year. So funny!!! I haven‘t even got all my thoughts together yet but please read this book!!
I splurged on a new reading blanket today. 😍 Much better.
I‘ve now read all 3 of Abby‘s books in this series, and she‘s become a must-buy author. She features strong, realistic women with real world problems. The men are well rounded too. Sure, maybe everyone is described as gorgeous or hot, but then again, isn‘t attractiveness what often draws us in first? The canine companions are a bonus - I love stuntman mike! This photo is a nod to the hoodie status in relationships - if you read it, you know. 😂
This was another super sweet and sexy romance, but it also has dimension. The characters have real flaws and go through real-life hardships, and it makes the love story all the sweeter. I cried with both sadness and happiness throughout most of the last quarter of the book. I'm excited to read Jimenez's other books, and I've already downloaded one!
I loved the complexity of it's characters & their relationships. Kristen's reluctance to share the truth with Josh gets really frustrating, but the way he handles it, & the way the other characters in the book do as well, felt realistic & not part of some glossy romantic fantasy. Like the other books in this series, the emotional complexity in this one kept me so invested that I devoured this book.
#1 Life's too short
#2 HEAP
#3 The Friend Zone
Really cute read i enjoyed it
⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read for me
The last quarter or so of this book? Ouch.
I think you get the plot from the title, so…
I read this book out of order, which was kind of a bummer since I knew about a significant episode in the plot. But it was still enjoyable.
Jimenez‘s romance packs a gut punch somewhere along the way, so if you like a little in the mix, this author is for you.

I loved Josh & Kristen‘s story. Kristen is the BFF I want or at least want to be. She was hysterical. And Josh is the guy I wish I could find. 💜
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thought this was super cute and I loved the romance and the friendship. I thought Kristen was annoyingly stubborn at times for not wanting to be with Josh. I did find this book to be a satisfying read. I do want to warn that the last bit of the book is on the heavy side.

I don‘t have high expectations for romance books—I expect them to use the same tropes & be a comfort read. I rated this a pick because I liked the characters & most of the story. I don‘t think it will be a favorite though. As usual with many romances, the conflict can be fixed with communication, & I felt the MC took way too long to communicate.
