Hello #SheSaid!
How is the book going? I‘m way behind and still packing, but hoping to be on the other side soon and able to unwind with this book. So I hope it‘s a good one!

"Why should I? You're crazy as a loon!"
Luciente beamed, capturing her hand in his dry, warm grip. "Ever see a loon, Connie? It's the sound they make that's crazy. They're plain but graceful birds that glide with only the head full out of the water. Like turtles, they swim low.
Maybe I can show you loons when they migrate through....Don't fear me.
Hello #SheSaid!
Sorry for the very late post today. I am in the process of moving and just completely lost track of time today. But, better late than never I guess…
Everyone get the book and get a chance to start it yet, or everyone running behind like me. 🫠
Up next for #SheSaid in December, put in your library holds & interlibrary loans!
An absentminded reader‘s tale:
I was looking to see how much the tagged book was on Kindle. I have the audiobook from Hoopla. Sometimes I alternate between audio and Kindle when I‘m trying to finish fast. Amazon informs me that I *already bought* this book on Kindle, on June 19, 2017. 2017!! I forgot I had it. Here is a screenshot of the order. It was $4.98 total for both, so I got a heck of a deal that day. I‘m so glad Amazon reminded me. 🤦🏻♀️

I read some great books in March so it was tough to choose but like 'kindred' I feel this is a remarkable book which uses time travel to tackle issues of race, mental health, and sexual oppression. Written in the 1970's it did not seem dated and it was an astonishing read.
Here is my #winter selection for #booked2022 which allowed me to read fairly diversely picking up books that I'd meant to read for a while ( the girls, and woman on the edge of time), returning to a series I enjoy (mandarin dress), a favourite novelists memoir( I am, I am), one from my unread pile (thin air) and a book new to me from a black owned press (living the dream). Not started spring yet but having a think about suitable options.

Connie is a 37yr old Mexican living in NY, having been in a mental hosp after hitting + then losing her daughter, she attacks her niece's pimp trying to save her,+ends up back in the asylum. We time travel with her to a society in the 22nd century where she discovers abt birth, death, + life in the future. An amazing vision written in 1978.
Definitely not getting this #BookSpin title finished this month, but determined to push through it. Eventually. Probably.
I can see what Pierce is doing here and it‘s admirable but the execution is leaving me cold. I was hoping to enjoy this but so far it‘s strictly reading out of duty. I‘ll give it to 25% before I decide whether to put it aside #BookSpin #VintageSciFiMonth
Woohoo - my #BookSpin book doubles as a #VintageSciFiMonth read - perfect 🚀
This book was published in the 70s. It doesn‘t feel like it. It feels very modern. Marge Piercy is a woman on the edge of time.
1/ my daughter made this turtle blanket for me — it‘s so soft and warm.
2/ Marge Piercy‘s Woman on the Edge of Time. It‘s been on my TBR for a long time.
#Two4Tuesday
I'm going to finish these four books for the #readharder2018 and #readingwomen2018 challenges. I only decided in October to take on these challenges, so I'm pleased at my progress!
Woman on the Edge of Time fulfills 3 tasks:
#readharder
3: A classic of genre fiction.
17: A sci fi novel with a female protagonist by a female author.
#readingwomenchallenge
23: The book that has been on my TBR the longest. (Shelved as 'Want to Read' on GR in 2008!)
I started this book many years ago & didn‘t finish it because I was afraid of a bad ending. (I did this back then. Atlas Shrugged was another that I didn‘t finish due to fear of bad ending but later finished & liked it.) Back to this one...I liked the community in the future Connie was visiting as she seemed to have more connection with them than with most people in her time (1970s New York). Slow at times but worth it for some of the messages.
A really compelling book that weaves together the horror of a 1970‘s mental institution and a beautiful future to create a novel I couldn‘t put down. #speculativefiction #scifi #feminism
Two part post, incoming!
First item: a monumental thank you to my old friend @MrBook for introducing me to the fabulous digital realm of Litsy. I have a hunch I'm going to feel quite at home here.
Second item: if I'm going to jump straight in here, I feel like I should start off with a recommendation. My college experience was shaped by many a book, but one that always shines bright in my memory is Marge Piercy's Woman on the Edge of Time.
I've seen this one recommended before (on the web somewhere) as an early 'feminist' novel. I haven't read it yet, so I can't verify its content, but I'm picking it up today at this sale price.
Anyone ever read this one?
"We're called the Manhattan Project--that's a joke based on a group--"
"I know what the Manhattan Project did," Connie said with cold dignity. "What are you fixing to blow up? Just everything?"
"It's a rib, you see, because that was a turning point when technology became itself a threat.... Cause we're a mobilizing of inknowing resources--mental? We're the first time travelers fasure--not that I'm actually travelling anyplace!"
Anyone else watching The OA? It's so different, so interesting! It reminded me of Piercy's amazing time-travel utopian Woman on the Edge of Time. Connect. Movement. Rebel. Escape. 🌙💫☄🌌🔸🌀
Just added to the TBR pile...
Finished this the other day. LOVED it so much, straight into my top ten books!
It's the story of a beaten down woman who sees the future and finds a way to fight back.
Re-released classic

Taking a short break from the edge of my seat whilst reading this! I want so much for it to all end well but will it???
One of the most memorable and affecting speculative novels I have ever had the pleasure to read. Piercy renders an incredibly appealing and idyllic future, contrasted with the life experiences of the main character, an older Latina woman in 20th century America. Is it real or is she insane? Read it!
