DNF‘d at 25%. An alt-history where ghosts are real & caused a major world-altering event was intriguing. The magic system, what little I learned of it, seemed interesting. The narrator, Bahni Turpin, is a good narrator.

So why DFN? Because the MC was as boring as a piece of plywood. No depth. No personality. No wit. Things just happen around her & she reacts, normally by popping a pill, which seems to be her answer to every problem. Boring.

I adore this series so much. Chess is a lonely drug addict who lives in a post-apocalyptic world where she works for the Church as a Debunker. Very gritty, but very fun.

A really creative start to this urban fantasy series. I love Chessie and how hard she is working to keep her life stable while it flies out of control. The world building is wonderful, but lots of TW in this one.

I don't know if I've mentioned my love for this urban fantasy series on Litsy before. I just bought the 1st two books because I've been thinking of doing a re-read at some point. I really hope the author finishes it. I need more Terrible.

I adore the Downside Ghosts series. Such a unique, dark series. Chess is one of my favorite female characters ever. And I ship her relationship with Terrible so hard. The first book in ebook form is currently on sale. Highly highly recommended.

I love a heroine who kicks butt and take prisoners, and Chess doesn't disappoint. I wouldn't have minded a little more depth and complication in the plot, but it was far from boring. I read the first four books from the series right in a row!

I love urban fantasy, especially with flawed heroes or heroines who find themselves in unexpected situations. This heroine, Chess, is certainly flawed. And the author, Stacia Kane builds an inventive and precarious world for her to life in. And hey, any author who names a character Terrible works for me! #recommendsday
