We Met in December
We Met in December: A Novel | Rosie Curtis
10 posts | 8 read | 2 reading | 13 to read
Following a year in the life of a twenty-something British woman who falls hard for her London flat mate, this clever, fun, and unforgettable romantic comedy is the perfect feel-good holiday read. Two people. One house. A year that changes everything. Twenty-nine-year-old Jess is following her dream and moving to London. Its December, and shes taking a room in a crumbling, but grand, Notting Hill house-share with four virtual strangers. On her first night, Jess meets Alex, the guy sharing her floor, at a Christmas dinner hosted by her landlord. They dont kiss, but as far as Jess is concerned the connection is clear. She starts planning how they will knock down the wall between them to spend more time together. But when Jess returns from a two-week Christmas holiday, she finds Alex has started dating someone elsebeautiful Emma, who lives on the floor above them. Now Jess faces a year of bumping into (hell, sharing a bathroom with) the man of her dreamsand the woman of his.

This was a sweet contemporary romance. The story is bookended by Christmas, so it was a very appropriate read for the holidays. The friendship that develops between the two MCs is really well done. The only thing that let me down was the super quick wrap up at the end. I hate when the couple FINALLY gets together after a slow burn and then the book just abruptly ends and concludes with an epilogue that skips ahead in time.

Kimberlone I would definitely recommend this to fans of The Flatshare and One Day in December 12h

Couldn‘t decide what to watch next on tv tonight so I thought I‘d catch up on Bob‘s Burgers and just by chance my next episode was Christmas themed!

Also almost done reading the tagged book!

Cute, but not cute enough to make the page count worth it. This was an incredibly slow slow-burn between Alex and Jess, two housemates who hit it off when they meet then spend a year living together and not getting together due to lots of contrived reasons. It ended up feeling kind of mundane and repetitive, likely because Jess and Alex are our POVs and they‘re super similar, plus there‘s barely any tension or angst to keep things moving.

Two twenty somethings move into a shared house in an area of London they would never be able to afford otherwise and develop a friendship on long walks through the city. Definitely a holiday read for fans of friends to lovers romance!
.
I guess this came out earlier in the fall but it seemed better for the first day of December. I had a copy from the publisher.

This one falls between a pick and a so so. Jess' annoying friend Sophie really takes away from the story. God, how I wanted to smack her one. This would have been a better book if Jess spent a little more time with Alex and less time with her friends. Besides, the dynamics between the housemates is so interesting that Jess' friends are so unnecessary. Overall, it's a nice holiday read.

#MOvember Another crazy work week so I‘m trying to catch up with prompts.

This book is a pick if you like sorta holiday (it starts & ends in December) rom-coms. Jess moves to London for her dream job, rents a room in Notting Hill & is smitten with flatmate Alex who‘s friends-with-benefits with another flatmate. The book follows the year from their POVs. What I #Crave is Nigella‘s Alcoholic Hot Chocolate with LU biscuits. recipe/review link👇🏻

Today‘s soup, vegan Creamy Cauliflower Soup with Mushroom & Hazelnut Topping from Ellie Krieger is really good—the topping with it‘s hit of sherry vinegar makes the soup. It‘s on the blog today for #SouperSundays link👇🏻Here with one of my current reads—for review later this week. I‘m only about 1/3 of the way in but it‘s cute so far.

Cute, but much longer than it needs to be. I was expecting a a much easier and faster read, not over 40 chapters. I liked the idea of varying POV, but it wasn‘t really giving me a lot of new insight.
