Love stories, especially mysteries or thrillers, including a family of wealth. This one was a fun read but I did struggle with how unrealistic it actually was. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Harriet's wildest dreams are all being exceeded, her first book has just sold one million copies, and she's newly engaged to the love of her life who is both ultra rich and a huge business success. But when it's time to meet the family and play their games, the lines between creepy family game and sinister intentions become impossibly intertwined. A Catherine Steadman masterpiece!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞 by 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐧 is clever & inventive. Harriet is introduced to her fiancee's family. His father is downright 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳. She takes readers on her journey to the truth -- a wild ride, set in the family's gothic, remote castle, complete with a terrifying maze & well. All is not as it seems! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Today I'm starting the 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 Readalong of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞 by 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐧. I enjoyed her debut novel, Something in the Water, so I am excited to immerse myself in what promises to be a delectable thriller!

I‘ll admit that I enjoyed the prose on this one but holy macaroni, the plot made less than zero sense! 😂
This book had mixed reviews but I really liked it! Definitely a page turner and the warped family games of Harriet‘s fiancé definitely kept me coming back for more. Yes the plot line is unbelievable at times but still thoroughly entertaining ?
Well this was interesting, I guess! The premise sounded good and the family and their “games” were super twisted, but I think it was pretty unbelievable overall. It was a quick read though!
I liked Something in the Water by this author much better.

A little over the top but it was unputdowneable .. a psychological thriller with rich people behaving badly which is the perfect book in between some heavier reads .. interested to know what the other opinions are on this book?
This one just barely made it a pick. Seriously by like this 🤏🏼 much. I had fun reading it which is what pushed me through it. It was just nonsensical and certain parts were unnecessary. Like the weird sexual attraction to the dad?? Like why was that in there if it didn‘t even go anywhere or serve the plot in anyway.
I wanted a good thriller and this audio was available through my library. I wish I had read the reviews here before investing my time in this one.
There are way too many glaring plot holes and the whole story just becomes so far-fetched that I lost interest. I finished it hoping for something good, but there was no redemption for this book for me.
I don‘t know, it was alright, it was just WAY too long and a bit too Farfetched
Wasn't able to get in my #audiowalk until evening but ended up being out just as the sun was setting. Gorgeous. Meanwhile, this book keeps getting more and more suspenseful! Halfway through!
I come to on the parquet of the entrance hall.

Started this over breakfast. 2 chapters in and I'm hooked.
This was a fun wild ride of a book! The family at the center of this is TWISTED! There were some plot holes (I don‘t want to give anything away) and it was super easy to figure out the twist but it was still entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the parts dealing with the actual games. They were really descriptive and went a long way to bringing the story to life. If you liked the movie Ready or Not you‘ll probably enjoy this! 🌟🌟🌟💫
This one‘s a gripper, even though I figured out the gist of it about 2/3 of the way through. Novelist Harry is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families alive. Think Rockefeller as an example. But this family is intent on playing games, some with disastrous consequences. Will she get out of this alive? Kept me reading to the end.
Fast-paced thriller about a woman marrying into a wealthy family. I am all for suspending belief, but this plot is ludicrous. The “games” played by the family are bizarre, and the main character was infuriatingly clueless for a thriller writer. You can drive a truck through all the plot holes and nonsensical logic. I saw the “twist” a mile away, but the ending was also confusingly executed. The whole thing is just absurd, and not in a fun way. 2⭐️
Well the upside is that I was able to knock one more book out in 2022. The downside is that I thought the plot was nonsensical and I could probably drive a freight train through those plot holes. Definitely my least favorite book of the month (out of 23 total 😂), but I guess it's only up from here in the New Year! After trying a couple of her books, I think it's safe to say Steadman is not the author for me 🙅🏽♀️
Happy New Year's, y'all! 🥂
So I started liking this one right away. But a lot went down hill. A lot of things were sooo convenient for the main character. Also the story is just absolutely absurd. There are sooo many plot holes. But I still found myself enjoying the story. So as long as you can really stretch your belief and not think about it too much, it's a fun ride. 3/5
Continuing with the weekend of reading! I finished my #jolabokaflodswap book this morning. I liked it but I wish the ending had been stronger. Maybe less abrupt? You know that feeling when you can see there aren‘t that many pages left and you wonder how the author can wrap things up in time? I was still feeling that way with like 20 pages to go. And then 10. Still, a twisty winter thriller!
Meh. This was my festive book club read and it was all a bit far fetched for me. Read it super fast which goes in its favour and it was gripping but just not remotely believable.
In San Francisco for my company holiday party, so I took some time today to get my nails done and try a few beers with this twisty holiday book to get myself in the spirit 🎄 🍻 💅 📚
I really liked this one! I had no idea the direction it was going to take. It held my interest from beginning to end. This is her best book so far IMO ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Interesting book. Very engaging but kind of predictable. 🌟🌟🌟
I found this thriller to be a load of dark, twisty fun. It certainly kept me guessing. Minor complaint: the fiancé didn‘t feel as fully fleshed out as a character as he could‘ve been.
Well, this is a creepy fun dysfunctional family during the holidays type of read. I wasn‘t sure if I was going to like Harriet as the protagonist, but I found myself rooting for her all the way through.
Good enough to keep my interest, but a reminder that I‘m tired of the not good/marred/wounded main character with the difficult past falling in love with a billionaire. Also, the weird sexual tension with the future father-in-law? No, ma‘am. No, thank you. However, the writing wasn‘t annoying like I‘ve seen in other thrillers, so I‘m good with it.
I had big hopes for this, it being compared frequently to Ready or Not (a great movie). However, I‘m bailing at 35%. I‘m not liking our protagonist & there are some things that make me uncomfortable.

This was my favourite of the “rich family” books I‘ve read recently! Very twisty!
Lots of murder, lots of secrets and LOTS of money 💰
Why oh why does this book have to have a ridiculous twist? If not for it”The Family Game” would have easily been one of the best thrillers I have ever read. I was totally digging Harriet and her interactions with the Holbeck family and their weird traditional holiday games. I was intensely invested in seeing how she would beat the patriarch Holbeck at his own sadistic game. Then the twist came and blew the entire plot to hell. So disappointed.⭐️⭐️
One hundred and sixteen pages in and I‘ve seen this word twice. It‘s working my nerves and I‘m not sure why… 🤨🧐🙃
Just released this month and now I have to wait for her next book to gobble up 📚📚
Library is closed today. I'm hoping to finish this book today. I'm enjoying this book, though I trust no one, not even the the main character.
I liked this one a lot, but I'm a fan of all of Steadman's books so far. This one I got on audio and I loved the narration which was done by the author. I usually enjoy when an author narrates because they are telling the story exactly how they want it to be heard. And this one did not disappoint! Harriett is about to marry the man she loves. Everything would be perfect, if it weren't for the strange games the family plays... Or would it?
The last 100 pages had me on edge. Whew child. It was intense. Definitely a good book. Kind of a slow build with some excitement throughout. I sort of saw the twist coming, I like to figure it out before I get to the twist. Good night!
🎧 a BOTM thriller rife with suspense & a good twist.
Rich family, first heir‘s GF is pregnant. Everyone has secrets they‘d literally kill to keep. No one is 100% likable & this family plays psychologically if not physically damaging mind games.
Started slow. Ended with a bang.

Wowza!! Steadman‘s 4th novel is definitely my favorite! I absolutely couldn‘t put it down!! With a surprising plot, great characters & plenty of tension, this is a real page turner!! Taking place over the holiday season, author & orphan, Harry Reed is excited & understandably apprehensive meeting her uber-wealthy future in-laws. Fiancé Edward stepped back from the family, but Harry takes part in some crazy traditions & uncovering family secrets!
