I‘ll be honest with y‘all: I‘ve got other things I‘d rather do with my evening, but I really want to move on to another book tomorrow so I‘m gonna plug on through the last hour of HoFaS tonight. It still isn‘t bad, and it‘s still a showcase for all the bits of Maas‘s writing I ain‘t so wild about.
The thing Ruhn did on Avallen was pretty great, though. Probably my favourite part.
I shall also eat cheesy puffs, for obvious reasons.
I invested in a kittycorn mood lamp this week and I have no regrets. It‘s colour-shifting! Whee!
I decided to read HoFaS 25% at a time because I‘m not so invested in the story that I need to gulp it down. I don‘t dislike it, but I do feel like it‘s a showcase for the bits of Maas‘s work I ain‘t wild about; namely, her infodumps and her fondness for alpha male bullshit. The book feels majorly overlong, too, just like its predecessors.
It‘s Friday and we‘ve got a heat warning, so I felt totally justified in taking my book & pool time early today. The dogs elected to nap inside, where it‘s frosty.
I borrowed a print copy of HoFaS a few weeks ago, brought it home, and said, “Why the hell didn‘t I get the ebook?” So into the queue I went, with a couple suspensions, and here it is. And here I am, trying to remember who‘s who because it‘s been a looooong time since the first books.
pickMaas creates unforgettable characters, the most intense plot with epic twists, and a well-crafted universe. I only wish for the vulgarity to be brought down a notch or two. Make 2 versions-one with spice galore and language and one for prudes like me.
Through this series, I have been forcing my colleagues to listen to my retelling.
pickThis was the best of the three in this series I did like the cross over and refreshes my memory of ACOTAR
And hopefully the new book I hear is coming out. But so long !
so-so#audiobook 🎧 just ok for me, I think I keep going with the series because I‘ve come so far already. No the most original concepts, in my opinion, it was alright. Also, a few of the accents choices by the narrator were interesting (and not in a good way)
So exited to jump into this book right after finishing House of Sky and Breath! I‘m loving the story so far….I just hope it continues to please.

pickAaah, well, the beginning was interesting and eventually it became hard to get through. Things were happening but there was too much crazy, too unrealistic, it felt like a dream where you could change the rules of magic with a thought to fit your narrative. Bryce‘s personality felt different than other books. All in all, the end was somewhat better and I ended up giving it a 4 ⭐️, but definitely the worse from all SJM books I have read.
pickThis book is a JOURNEY, and it only takes place over a span of days. So very much happens, and it‘s as magically themed, powerful, and romantic as you‘d expect from SJM. Bryce and Hunt make an engaging lead couple, and their adventures are always fun to experience. I did think SJM wrapped things up quite neatly, while still leaving herself space to write more in this universe. Docking a point bc Ithan is so very obnoxious😅
This was so fun. Sets up Nesta for future books. Will there be another one in this series?

pickWell. This book doesn‘t need my help so I guess I can be honest. Sarah j Maas is a master, no doubt, her characters are so compelling and I‘ll always keep reading. This one I loved when the “2 worlds” intersected (no spoilers but you‘ll know what I mean if you‘ve read anything of hers), I took a break of about 2 weeks 50% of the way thru. I kind of skimmed the last half to get it done. But of course, I‘ll read all the next books😂I miss TOG🤷🏼♀️
pickMy 1st bk of March is the latest in the Crescent City series. I enjoyed it, but I thought the connection to ACOTAR could‘ve been used more effectively. I feel like SJM really threaded the ending of this series perfectly. so-soGonna probably get a bit of flak for this one…😅 This was my most highly anticipated book this year and I think I was expecting too much from this read. Did it have twists and turns? Yes. Did it stir up emotions and have me on the edge of my seat? Yes. Was it about as predictable as a book could be in the end? Also yes. Unfortunately finishing it felt more like a relief than a triumph. Still would read the series but just fell flat at the end.
I have 176 pages left. I‘m on chapter 71. Despite the fact of having a physical copy of the book, I‘ve been reading the digital copy via iBooks.
pickWelp. I tried to read this slowly, but for those last few hundred pages I just could not put it down! Once again, Sarah has given us a book that turned me into a whirlwind of emotions! 💕📚 I know she's probably planning another book featuring some of the other characters and their story arcs wrapping up, but I am also really really happy with the way this book ended! ❤️

Ithan, Tharion, Ariadne, and Sigrid's stories seemed a little out of place, and I didn't really enjoy them. I am hoping their stories will continue in the 4th book for the 4th house.

pickMore was accomplished in this book than I thought possible. I was worried after the growing pains of book 2, but it was phenomenal. The beginning was a bit rough with how quickly the POVs cycled but it moved away from that, & moved away from some of the more overused Maasaverse tropes, it was really fun & a unique journey even after 835 pages I can‘t wait to see what‘s next.

I had the extreme pleasure of going to the midnight release party for House of Flame and Shadow tonight at my Barnes and Noble! 💕📚💕📚 There were people in costumes, trivia and prizes, and of course I walked around and ended up leaving with more than just the one book I was there for! 🤭 I haven't done a midnight book release in years! It was absolutely so much fun!
