The Last Star | Rick Yancey
Following the major motion picture release starring Chlo Grace Moretz, the heart-stopping finale to the bestselling 5th Wave series. We're here, then we're gone, and that was true before they came. That's always been true. The Others didn't invent death; they just perfected it. Gave death a face to put back in our face, because they knew that was the only way to crush us. It won't end on any continent or ocean, no mountain or plain, jungle or desert. It will end where it began, where it had been from the beginning, on the battlefield of the last beating human heart. 'Remarkable, not-to-be-missed-under-any-circumstances . . . JUST READ IT' Entertainment Weekly HOW DO YOU RID THE EARTH OF SEVEN BILLION HUMANS? RID THE HUMANS OF THEIR HUMANITY. Cassie Sullivan and her companions lived through the Others' four waves of destruction. Now, with the human race nearly exterminated and the 5th Wave rolling across the landscape, they brace themselves. For the next attack is more than possible - it's inevitable. No one can anticipate the depths to which the Others will sink - nor the heights to which humanity will rise. THE FINAL WAVE IS COMING. Audio. There was very little to no recap for the previous books (or if there was, I missed it). Most of the characters have two names – their real name and their nickname, so it‘s hard to remember who is who sometimes, especially when not fully engaged/interested in what I‘m listening to. There were two different narrators, one male and one female, but more than two different viewpoints. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin Each chapter did say whose viewpoint it was, but because I missed things, I still had trouble knowing between the male or female characters whose POV I was hearing (combined with the multiple names and not really remembering their background because I couldn‘t recall who was who…). 2y
TheSpineView I loved the first book but it went down hill from there. 2y

4.5 ⭐️ for book one
4 ⭐️ for book two
3.5 ⭐️ for book three

This is the first series I‘ve read in years. The first book was good enough to invest in the whole series, in my opinion.

I liked this book and didn‘t like it at the same time. Cassie seemed to only care about Evan and whether or not she loved him and not the alien invasion and people dying. The rest of the characters were just fillers to make a longer book. To me, it lacked the major woah moments of the last two books.

Going back into the fire. The losses of life in this book is felt hard. Be prepared to be sad. A good ending to a good series. Who will win? Evil or Hope? Others or Humans? Maybe both in their own ways? Don't lose hope and always have faith in love. I enjoyed finding out who the last star was...

I liked it but I didn't love it. The first two books were better. I thought the ending was predictable and there was not much in further character development or world building. Still I enjoyed it. Glad though I borrowed from the library instead of buying. Not good enough to spend money on.

DogMomIrene 👊🏼I can‘t even remember if I finished this trilogy, which is such a shame. I loved the concept. 4y
TheSpineView @ocdIrene IK! It was a great concept but petered out as the series went along 4y

I recommend this book because the character development is great. There is a lot of depressing death, but I think it is important for the character development. Rick Yancey shows the characters behind their mask by having sections of different character's point of view. This is a great read and I suggest reading the rest of the series before this one.

I finally finished reading the 5th wave series and I highly enjoyed this series overall but I am so upset about the ending of this book. But it still was an amazing read for me it was just a bittersweet and sad ending that I can‘t even stop thinking about that ending. Ugh !

Today‘s #colormepretty is #brown!

I liked the Fifth Wave series, and now a friend is reading it and I can‘t wait to discuss things with her.

Ship Breaker is a great book, but I like the sequel (The Drowned Cities) better. It‘s set on a dystopian Earth after mass climate change and the sequel features a badass woman amputee as the main character!!

Hounded I liked, but I have problems with most urban fantasy, and this series is no exception.

I was a bit disappointed in the ending to this eerie, atmospheric trilogy. There are more mind games and senseless deaths, as well as musings on what it means to be human. I didn‘t connect with the characters all that much, and the ending, though it made sense, wasn‘t wholly satisfying.

A while back I remember reading that B&N was going to start laying off/downsizing, then I was told that it had been projected that they will go bankrupt/out of business in the near future. I held out hope until we went today... I have NEVER seen so many books bargained price. The only one we paid full price for was Invasion. All of the other hardbacks were so cheap! Makes me happy to get so many, but sad to think it could mean the end. 😕

RebL I went this weekend and got horrible customer service. I figured it was the result of laying off their senior staff members. 6y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @RebL that stinks. 😕 The service was still great at this one and it was packed! But, I swear when I first walked in there were two whole displays of bargains and then several around the whole store. And that isn‘t even including my member discount. I mean, these were all steals. 🤞they somehow dig out of this hole and keep it around. Or at the very least customer service doesn‘t continue to dwindle like that. 6y
RebL Same. I want them to stick around too. Maybe the poor customer service was a fluke. At least I hope it was, but I‘ve been going to bookstores for a lot of years and this felt different. 6y

⭐️⭐️

Filler, filler, more filler, and a rushed conclusion to such a promising series. I am such a fan of the first book - but the rest of the series struggled from there. I feel like there was nothing but death encircling false resolution - characters had taken a complete 180, and anything that made them unique and interesting was not discussed. Plot-wise, the story lost its quest and purpose, and diluted the traction of the story.

Horrible! The only reason I didn‘t bail on this book was because it was the last in the series and wanted to know how it ended. I couldn‘t stand how the author would just switch from 2nd and third person writing viewpoints throughout the book, it drove me nuts. The whole series was very confusing and hard to follow. I really think the way he wrote it was more dedicated to getting a movie deal than just having a good book. Very disappointed 😔

I expected so much more from this book. I mean, i loved the other two. And this one beggins "well"... But it gets worse with every chapter. The characters are stupid af and the story is the same all the time, there are no changes. If the second book has a big reveal, i expect to find something interesting about it in the third. But nope. A disappointment for me, sorry ?.

Another really good audiobook. This series is very well written, and I absolutely love that it wasn't like so many other contrived YA dystopian that I have read. No real love triangle, and I don't think I rolled my eyes even once!

Lots of action and deep subject matter that makes you think about what it is to be human. I was not crazy about the way the story ended, but I can respect the direction it went.

I don't know how I feel about The Last Star. Like all the books in this series, it was fabulously written. Yancey's reflections on what it means to be human were profound. And I think this was an accurate portrayal of what humans will probably be like as we near the end of the world. But it wasn't a really satisfying ending. While I didn't expect to have warm, gushy, happily-ever-after feelings, all the deaths left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
