Bk13 of #Scarathlon & Bk1 of #20in4 & #FinalStretchathon is done! A chunkster of a book, wasn‘t sure if I‘d finish it! Bk9 of #Scarathlon & Bk2 of #OutstandingOctober #Readathon is done. Thank god! That was one of the most ominous books I‘ve read. It starts quietly but once it gets going it‘s like a hand just hovering over the back of your neck. Lizpixie @Read4life that it was. It was sanctioned by Shirley Jackson‘s estate as a sequel to Hill House, and it had that same sense of foreboding.💀🫣 5mo

This book is about how we destroy the world and how nature gets creative rebuilding it. It's also very similar to the TV show Mysteries of the Abandoned.

SamAnne Reading this right now & really appreciating it. I just had 2.8 acres of fairly mature forest and habitat next to my home in inner city Spokane WA destroyed by developers--who have broken laws right & left. I've been grieving--& I was so close to raising private dollars to purchase the property to add to adjacent park. While reading this book, I've reversed course and now want to try to buy it again....we can rehab it! For the next generation. 9mo
BookwormAHN @SamAnne I think you should go for it and good luck 🍀 9mo

I have general interest in birds, everyday I feed wild sparrows in my balcony and try to identify birds whenever I travel. But this book is exquisite , and beyond imagination. These are the true anecdotes from the author‘s life. It shed a light on different aspects of bird watching, hunting and love for nature. Short but intense one 5🌟 #doublespin #bookspinbingo #nonfiction2023 #naturalitsybingo #birds

TheAromaofBooks Oooo this sounds so interesting! And it looks like this author has also written a book about hummingbirds that sounds quite intriguing - have you read that one as well? 11mo
Blackink_WhitePaper @TheAromaofBooks No I haven‘t. But I have added to my TBR list. Thank you 😊 sounds interesting 😻 11mo

A complete surprise, combining a memoir of the author and his father, whose ‘together‘ activity was eel fishing, with a natural/social history of the eel, and what we don‘t know about them. I went in (honestly?) indifferent to eels, and came out with respect and fascination for these stubborn, elusive creatures. Great stuff!

Thanks for prompting this read #naturalitsy! #NonFiction2023 #RollingInTheDeep #NaturalitsyBingo #Water

The Hidden Life of Trees meets Devil in the White City. This masterpiece of environmentalist true crime writing had me spellbound from start to finish. Lifelong Canadian logger Grant Hadwin experiences a spiritual transformation into an environmental activist. His increasingly quixotic quest to change the industry in the 1990s leads to a bizarre and seemingly inexplicable protest with a truly epic backstory. Hadwin remains missing to this day.

SamAnne This was a good one. 1y
HillsAndHamletsBookshop Another visiting bookseller from Orcas Island recommended to me when visiting our bookstore here in Georgia. It‘s an older title I hadn‘t even heard of and I just loved it! 1y
jlhammar Yay! I'm planning to read this in February for #NaturaLitsyBingo. Can't wait! 1y
HillsAndHamletsBookshop @jlhammar awesome! You are in for a treat! 1y

#Naturalitsy

Time to choose our next read for Jan/Feb 2023
We had so many themes last time, it was difficult to make a decision! This time I suggest 1 theme - Water. This is completely open to interpretation. You can choose water bodies, water wildlife, ice, glaciers, weather, preservation etc. There are so many of us now, I do suggest we each have 1 recommendation only.

I'll close the comments on Sunday for voting next week.

Over to you...

AllDebooks Tagging all who have shown an interest in #NaturaLitsy. If you wish to be removed or added, please do let me know. All newcomers welcome to our lovely group x 1y

Soscha I‘d love to be added, thank you! 🐳🌊 1y
AllDebooks @Soscha oh yay 🤗 a warm welcome x 1y
AllDebooks I'm choosing an older book from 2009 but one that's been on my tbr since then 1y
AllDebooks @Soscha use the #naturalitsy tag to follow our other events. We started in late August and choose a book to read over a 2 month period. Our first was Finding the Mother tree by Suzanne Simard. We are currently reading 1y
PuddleJumper Is it non-fiction books? 1y
LeeRHarry I‘m not above a shameless plug for a friend‘s book 😏 1y
Yuki_Onna Recommending the following: One of the few non-fiction/memoir/adventure/travel books I thoroughly enjoyed when I first read it. It's not only about catching a Greenland Shark (for scientific reasons (mostly)), but also about life at the Norwegian coast, marine life, living on an island etc.
Its German title translates as 'The book of the sea' - and I got tons of fun interesting sea facts from it.
1y
AllDebooks @PuddleJumper not necessarily. Most of what we recommend is non-fiction but there are a huge number of fiction and poetry books with nature themes at their core. 1y
Blackink_WhitePaper There 2 books on my TBR on water. First priority is A long walk to water. Have heard it is a must read book. But since it is a short book I also suggest the another one 1y
rockpools I want to read ALL of these suggestions! The Edge of the Sea is one of my all time favourites, but I‘m going to put forward another Rachel Carson book. I‘ve never read this and her writing is gorgeous. 1y
rockpools Also, it seems to be more readily available now than last time I posted about it 🫣 1y
AllDebooks @rockpools me too, all great suggestions. It's going to be a tough choice to choose one. I suppose we could squeeze a few into the challenge 🙂 1y
AllDebooks Thank you for all the amazing recommendations so far. I'm leaving this post open until Sunday for anyone else wishing to make suggestions. 1y
ElizaMarie Please add me. I am thinking about my next year's reads/plans/goals etc. This might be something right up my alley. 1y
AllDebooks @ElizaMarie that's wonderful, welcome. We're also having a #Naturalitsybingo challenge running through the year. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfCeL7nB2SWTai9iJst9ZiVjyBeYX5MRm4sQ1X8... 1y
