The Making of a Marchioness | Frances Hodgson Burnett

Another lovely #Persephone. No spinster lit this time but a story that starts off as a Cinderella one (plain girl meets her prince) but ends somewhere completely different. Not my favorite but I did spend some pleasant hours with Emily Fox-Seton and Lord Walderhurst.

Surprisingly good! Audio narration by Alison Larkin was fantastic🙌🏻🎧♥️ When a young governess discovers something sinister is happening in the stately manor house where she‘s been placed, instead of taking flight she fights! I adored this creepy gothic tale written by John Boyne!!! Perfect for fans of Daphne Du Maurier, Silva Moreno-Garcia & Shirley Jackson. #AAM #Hoopla

Megabooks Ooo! Intriguing! 2y
BarbaraBB I think I‘ll use it for that prompt too since I hardly read classics anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️😉 2y

Soubhiville I keep seeing great reviews for this, I really must get it! 2y
Bookzombie I really liked this one too! 2y
Cinfhen I really couldn‘t believe it was written by John Boyne / it felt completely different from all of his other books that I‘ve read by him @squirrelbrain @Cathythoughts @jenniferw88 @KarenUK @Cortg @Librarybelle @Soubhiville @Bookzombie 2y
Cortg Per your review and the fact I love the authors you listed, I mentioned this book not once but twice at work with colleagues yesterday 😂 I‘m really going to have to read it! 2y
Cinfhen Hahaha @Cortg that‘s some real pressure!! TWICE mentioned in the workday!!! I really loved the audio and it was free to borrow from my library via Hoopla 🙌🏻 2y
Megabooks I‘m so surprised he wrote this! 2y
Cinfhen Me too @Megabooks and I thought it was done well! 2y

Anyone else feel like sharing their #SaturdayStack #PileOfPossibilities ….I think I‘m going with the tagged book! I‘ve read the first chapter and I‘m hooked🤓

TrishB Great possibilities! 2y

BarbaraBB Oh wow, I don‘t know any of them 2y
Megabooks Say Nothing was excellent. Tightrope was decent. 2y
Megabooks You‘re in a nonfiction mood! 2y
jenniferw88 I've got your tagged on my #tbr! 2y
ChaoticMissAdventures The Professor and the mad man is fantastic, I had never heard anything about how the first dictionary was made before it came out and I was blown away. Say Nothing was one of my favorite books a couple of years ago, it goes deep and Radden Keefe has become 1 of my favorite authors. 2y
Cinfhen Agreed @ChaoticMissAdventures it‘s fascinating!! I think you‘re gonna love it @jenniferw88 !!!!! 2y
Cinfhen I didn‘t realize they were all NF @Megabooks 🤪 I had started Say Nothing on audio awhile back but I was having trouble following all the threads @squirrelbrain so I‘m excited to try again in print!! I loved his other book 2y
Cinfhen I picked up TightRope first @Megabooks but I think im ready to donate it to my LFL - it‘s been on my shelf too long and my charity shop bookstore doesn‘t take hardcovers unless they are new releases 2y
Cinfhen I‘m trying to whittle down my TBR shelves @TrishB @BarbaraBB 😅 2y
squirrelbrain I read Say Nothing recently Cindy, and also couldn‘t follow the audio. I wondered what everyone was raving about, until I tried it in print. 2y
Megabooks Yeah, I read tightrope and donated it to the library sale on my last trip. 2y
Cinfhen Yes, im sure it‘s going to be fantastic @squirrelbrain even though I LOVED his Irish accent, I literally couldn‘t understand half of what I was listening too!!! 2y
Cinfhen It‘s one of those books that probably should have been a #BorrowNotBuy @Megabooks 2y

Completely adorable. Actor/writer/comedian David Walliams has really earned his crown as the much lauded ‘new Roald Dahl‘.
For me,he combines Dahl‘s whimsy and silliness (and fart joke level humor) with the world-building and cast of characters of a Nick Park animation (including Queen Vic!). This middle-grade comedy fantasy is the perfect story for any little reluctant reader. A joy!

KarenUK P.S. The full cast audio is packed with British acting Royalty and runs at a petite 5 hours. People probably thought I was crazy as I was laughing out loud driving to work! (edited) 2y
Cinfhen Sound like a lighthearted joy of an audio 🎧 2y
Megabooks Sounds really fun! There‘s nothing better than a well done full-cast recording! 2y
