1- No? My mom has intermittently claimed that my middle name- Marie was for her bff at the time 🤷‍♀️
2- I will straight binge any Elizabeth 1 historical fiction. I find her fascinating.

I have read quite a bit about Jane, and only one or two other books about Katherine and Mary, so I was kept interested. With regards to Elizabeth I, this book sure looked at a different side to her, where she was so very worried about being outsted by others in her family to take over the throne. Katherine and Mary were next in line since Elizabeth had no children (alongside Mary of Scots). I listened to the audio and had no problem with it.

This #chunkster was a fantastic and in-depth read regarding Queen Elizabeth the First. If you're a fan of historic nonfiction reads I highly recommend this author. You will be given a lot of information but in a way thatbit almost reads as a work of fiction. In otherwords not like a textbook.

First book of the year! I loved Pillars of the Earth and World Without End, but kept passing over this one because of its size. Hoping to finish the Kingsbridge series in 2024!

I did like certain aspects of this mystery set in Queen Elizabeth I‘s court such as the main character, Nicholas Holt, the younger brother of an earl, who owns a tavern and works undercover as a spy for the queen. But unfortunately, there were a couple of things that held me back from giving it a total thumbs up.
First, and the author alludes to this in her note at the end of the book, the language threw me as it was not conducive to the time 🔻

robinb period and distracted because of that. Yes, it may have been clearer in a more modern vernacular, but it just felt wrong. Second, there were stretches of explanations relating to the time period that were a bit boring and long-winded. And third, the romance triangle was murky and perplexing to me, and I felt it needed more explanation and clarity. 🔻 4mo
robinb The story itself was just OK but did produce a surprise villain. I might or might not give the next one a chance. 3.25/5⭐️ 4mo

@MittenGirlPeach chose cozy English Christmas as the theme and nailed it! I confess- I‘ve never had lemon curd- what do I do with it? Thank you so much! #staycationintime

DinoMom Lovely package. My grandmother always made lemon curd. She used it on a lot of things. Put it in tart shells, on her ice cream or would dip short bread cookies in it when having her afternoon tea 8mo
MittenGirlPeach I‘m so good you like everything! What a great idea for a staycation; I may steal it next year. I‘m a tea and toast lover, and I use the curd on toast. I also put it on scones and ice cream. I love the idea of putting it on shortbread cookies! 8mo
squirrelbrain Yes, lemon curd on toast. In the UK we use it like jam (jelly!). 8mo

The Lady Elizabeth is a fascinating story of a woman far ahead of her time-a orphaned girl haunted by the shadow of the axe, a girl who must use her wits for her very survival, and a future queen whose dramatic path to the throne shapes her future greatness. It has suspense, tragedy and intrigue that you would expect of this time. It has the strong and vivid characters we long to read about. One of Alison Weir's best novels.
