The Tudors
The Tudors: The Complete Story of England's Most Notorious Dynasty | G.J. Meyer
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER BONUS: This edition contains a The Tudors discussion guide. Acclaimed historian G. J. Meyer provides a fresh look at the fabled Tudor dynastyand some of the most enigmatic figures ever to rule a country. In 1485, Henry Tudor, whose claim to the English throne was so weak as to be almost laughable, nevertheless sailed from France with a ragtag army to take the crown from the family that had ruled England for almost four centuries. Fifty years later, his son, Henry VIII, aimed to seize even greater powersultimately leaving behind a brutal legacy that would blight the lives of his children and the destiny of his country. Edward VI, a fervent believer in reforming the English church, died before realizing his dream. Mary I, the disgraced daughter of Catherine of Aragon, tried and failed to reestablish the Catholic Church and produce an heir, while Elizabeth I sacrificed all chance of personal happiness in order to survive. The Tudors presents the sinners and saints, the tragedies and triumphs, the high dreams and dark crimes, of this enthralling era.

In the wake of the War of the Roses, the House of Tudor succeeded the Plantagenets. They ruled 118 years from Henry VII to Elizabeth I, succeeded by the Stuarts. The most well known Tudor being Henry VIII, with his six wives, and his daughter Elizabeth I, who reigned for 45 years. I‘m reading book 1 of Shardlake series. You? Comment, post or review at the end of the month!

#BookedInTime

I personally love this time period. So much drama and so much to choose from. Thanks to @rubyslippersreads for suggesting this prompt.

Bookwormjillk This time period has always been a challenge for me but I did find this chunkster unread on my phone the other day 1mo

dabbe I'll be finishing the #ShardlakeSeriesBR with the tagged in January. I'm thoroughly enjoying rereading these historical mystery reads! 🤩 1mo
dabbe Reminder to everyone: we have a spreadsheet with all of the books we've read! Here's the link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sLpOtIgy6SwJkyU0wwno2MN4YUbe0ldjPwSusW3g...

Cuilin @dabbe Thank you, for reminder about the spreadsheet. I thought Shardlake would work for this prompt. 😉 1mo
rwmg How would you feel about a separate tag for announcements of upcoming periods to be discussed, such as BookedInTimePeriods? I plan each month's reading at the end of the previous month and I can't always find what the period is easily. 1mo
Karisimo @dabbe @cuilin I‘m definitely using shardlake for this one! (edited) 1mo
Cuilin @rwmg yes I can create a separate hashtag like #BookedinTimeJanTudors Would that work? 1mo
Cuilin @Karisimo I‘m looking forward to it but worried about adding another series to my TBR lol 😆 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures This is perfect I had this one on my TBR all this year and kept putting it off. This gives me more incentive to pick it up in January 1mo
Cuilin @ChaoticMissAdventures loved that trilogy, perfect choice 1mo
dabbe @Karisimo 🤩🤩🤩 1mo
dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures On the spreadsheet! 🤩 1mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk On the spreadsheet! 🤩 1mo
rwmg I was thinking of something more general. If I've forgotten the prompt, which I usually have by the beginning of the month, I can't look up eg Tudors. so I need something like BookedInTimeJan2024 1mo
Cuilin @rwmg Got it!! I can absolutely do that. I‘m not adverse to posting a few hashtags. 1mo
rwmg Thank you 😘 1mo
julieclair Love this time period! 1mo
julieclair @rwmg (and everyone) I have set up a challenge on StoryGraph that lists all the prompts, if that would be helpful to you: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/2cdac7b0-0085-4e6b-b601-f63cbd6... 1mo
kspenmoll I have Hamnet in my TBR so that will be my choice! 4w
Cuilin @kspenmoll I loved it. Enjoy. 4w
Jess861 I'm planning to read either The Wise Woman or The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.

The tagged book is my first dive into the twisted world of Henry the 8th and his rather yucky family. This book is taking me a while to read, partly because it's a chunk and partly because it's heavy-handed on politics and corruption and really we face enough of that in the modern world so...

• Reached 8 hrs in the audiobook and I'm beat. The whole time I've been reading/listening to this book, my brain has gotten so clogged with details and facts that I have had to rewind and reread several large sections, sometimes more than once. It's kind of ridiculous, really. The book is so interesting but so dense at times. Anyone else feel this way about it? •

• This hilarious section about the privileged access to the king's toilets: I can't even. Tudor history is so interesting; shamefully and grotesquely interesting •
