I enjoyed this—it‘s your basic tv show tie-in so it felt like a decent episode of the show but as with most tie-in stories, stakes are low because you know that nothing big enough to change the fundamental dynamics will happen—Mal isn‘t going to die or hook up with Inara—but there was a reasonable level of “okay he is going to survive but how?” Suspense and since I loved this show, any chance to spend time with these folks is worth it!

Looking for recs for fun escapist reading—light and fun. I enjoy SF, fantasy, romance (most subgenres but historical, contemporary, paranormal are faves) and mystery—tho my preference in mystery is procedural and thrillers over cozy so maybe not so much right now). Nothing tragic or gritty; light NF okay too. And something that will suck me right in because my concentration sucks right now too. Thanks in advance, I know you guys will come thru!

I started this but will have to come back to it later. The news in the world and personal stuff (cancer in the family) is too much right now. It‘s an important book and I do want to read it but I just can‘t do serious and tough at this moment. I need fluff and escapism for a while.

FINALLY finished this one earlier this week. It was a long slow slog and I don‘t know if I‘d recommend it unless you are REALLY Into knowing about growing sugar cane. I wanted to smack sense into half the characters at various points, including Charlie, the protagonist, but especially her awful half brother. The reader on the audiobook was very good. And this takes care of Q for the #litsyAtoZ challenge @BookishMarginalia

Meh. Both the main character annoyed the hell out of me and there is no resolution to the story, gotta wait for the sequel.

Final tally for #24in48: a slightly disappointing 8 hours. After a long day working yesterday I just wanted to watch true crime shows (love dogsitting for folks with cable!) and stitch, but at least I made good progress on my project! Still love the readathon concept and plan to be there for the next one! @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid

Librarybelle 8 hours is still a good time! 10mo
ColleenIsReading @Librarybelle I feel fine about it—it‘s more than I would have read casually since I made a point of listening to audiobooks when I was doing other stuff, plus some good reading sessions. And the promise of taking part was a great motivator to get my work and chores done earlier in the week! My workday yesterday just sort of happened because I felt inspired and it‘s important to take advantage of that. Good weekend overall! 10mo

Well I‘m not gonna make #24b4Monday or #24in48 because I only have 8 hours total at this point and haven‘t done any reading yet today. But I‘m okay with that because I was working hard on my writing biz since early this morning and got a lot done. I feel completely justified in chilling the rest of the day, I‘ll be bouncing between this book, Queen Sugar in audio, and maybe a little #Librivox in the mix. @Andrew65 @ReadingMermaid

Andrew65 That‘s still a good total! 👍😊 10mo

Not sure what that “L” sticker is actually for but I‘m gonna use it to mark books I read for Librivox projects...Last night I added 2 more hours to my #24in48 for a total of 8 yesterday by prooflistening the last couple of chapters. If you like Georgette Heyer consider giving this a listen when it comes out on LV in the next few days. My first Sabatini and I will be back for more, I enjoyed it.

Finished! And that puts me 4 hours and 45 minutes in on my #24b4Monday, yikes, that‘s behind—well the good news is, I want to keep on stitching so I‘m swinging right into another audiobook...meanwhile I highly recommend this one—very funny and the narrator was just perfect for the archness is the story. @Andrew65 @ReadingMermaid

Did about two hours of recording and then editing some chapters for #Librivox this morning to kick off my #24b4Monday challenge. This is the illustration from the chapter I read from “Ancient Tales and Folklore of Japan” from the story of Watanabe Tatsuzo, a Tokugawa holdout who refused to recognize the Meiji restoration. He was executed by Meiji general Saigo Takamori, but won Saigo‘s respect for his honor. @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65 #24in48

TheReadingMermaid Love the illustration 😍 10mo
ColleenIsReading Isn‘t it cool? It comes from the actual text, I was happy to find it online. It shows the moment Watanabe gets busted by a sentry as he tries to sneak in and assassinate some Meiji honchos. I am looking forward to this book being released so I can listen to the rest of it—I really enjoyed my 2 chapters! (edited) 10mo

I really enjoyed this book! Loved the worldbuilding and looking forward to the next book in the series. I listened to part of it on audio and the reader‘s voice was lovely as well. I expected to finish during #24in48 this weekend, but now the deck is cleared for some different books...also this is the first of my #LitsyAtoZ challenge titles for the year! @BookishMarginalia

I finished Volume 2 of The History of the Four Georges, as a LibriVox audiobook. I knew very little about the details of the first half of the 18th century in Great Britain and learned a lot from this. There is a bit of social and cultural history but it‘s mainly old school political/“great men” stuff. Good for a framework of who did what when though! And I started right in to volume 3–George III, much more familiar ground.

1. Teleport! Mind reading would be hell I think.
2. Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor (partway through, stopped to push on an audiobook due back at library)
3. Write more, procrastinate less. So far, mixed bag. Some really good, some really bad days, productivity wise.
4. Forensic Files and Friends. Downton Abbey and Mrs Maisel on Prime.
5. 🙌🙌🙌

I was listening to this and visualizing it as a movie and thinking Wes Anderson or the Coen brothers would be perfect directors for it. Tone reminds me of Hotel Budapest or Raising Arizona with the combination of deadly serious and absurdly hilarious situations.(I know there is already a Swedish version!)

Just starting this! First read on my #LitsyAtoZ challenge-I decided to do all women authors, and wanted to see if I could make it extra challenging by doing all TBR plus AOC. I was able to nearly do it! My prospective reading list is complete and I have a book from a woman AOC for every letter, but had to reach beyond the TBR for 3 books—but those are all on Hoopla so I won‘t have to buy any extra. Making the list was fun, now I‘m ready to read!

Soubhiville AOC? And that‘s awesome! I hadn‘t thought to try all women. Maybe next year... I‘m also using TBR for as much as possible, and library for the rest! Good luck! 11mo
mcipher I‘m probably being dumb... but what is AOC? Google was no help so I have to ask. 😳 11mo

This took me by surprise! I was in this very program in 1983. It was at Lawrenceville School, a boarding school near Princeton. The topic changed every year; the year I went it was about Russia. Funky to see this as a casual aside in the midst of this book!

So I tallied up my reading time and I‘m at 20.5 hours. But I spent a huge chunk of yesterday reading cookbooks and planning meals. Would you count that as reading time toward #24b419? I still have a few hours this evening so I‘m going to see if I can put a push on and also actually finish a second book. I‘ve been jumping between so many!

so, would you count cookbooks as reading time for a readathon? Or pleasure books only?

My inelegant scrawl tracking my progress on the Readathon today. Translated, I spent about 30 min listening to an audiobook, 2 hours reading The Idiot, 30 min on Everything Trump Touches Dies, and around 4.5 hours working on various LibriVox recordings, which boils down to about 2 hours of actual reading time. So I have just over 5 hours for today. I‘ll get a little more before sleep but count it tomorrow! #24b42019 @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65

Narrator voice: the post was not about kink.
I actually have some Litsy newbie questions.
Is there a way to save #hashtags to remember to check on them later? Also, is there a way to zoom in or make pics bigger to see details?

GingerAntics I wish there was a way to zoom in or enlarge the photos like on IG. Some of the photos have really awesome details that could really benefit from that ability, but the coding to make that possible might be funky or something. I don‘t think there is a way to save hashtags, but again I‘d love to see that. I think it would be great for buddy reads/readalongs, etc. 11mo

A History of the Four George is my current “falling asleep” listen—a book that is interesting enough to listen to while trying to fall asleep (and distracts from the anxious thoughts that want to come in when I try to sleep) but not soooo interesting that I stay awake. History books hit the sweet spot for me, and Librivox has a ton! This one will take a while because I actually want to hear it all! And I‘m only on Volume 1 of 4!

I didn‘t think the book was going to be that useful because it was written and published just before the 2016 election so expected to be very out of date. Instead it was excellent background to understanding what‘s currently going on esp in the heavy detail about how the Russian operations work, a good bit of history of Russia and KGB etc. Also his profiles of people like Manafort and Flynn were prescient considering what we since have learned.
