Diana Her True Story Commemorative Edition (Completely Rev)
Diana Her True Story Commemorative Edition (Completely Rev) | Andrew Morton
The sudden and tragic death of Princess Diana has caused the entire world to reflect on how much this singular woman meant to us all. From her fairy-tale courtship, her wedding to Prince Charles, and the birth of her two wonderful boys to the stunning collapse of her marriage and the revelation of her psychological and physical trauma, we witnessed and shared in the wide range of emotions in her life. In the last few years, Diana's dedication to the downtrodden and unloved and her commitment as a mother have only strengthened her hold on our hearts. When "Diana: Her True Story" was initially published in 1992, it was met with a hail of abuse from the British Establishment. As time passed, however, the magnitude of Diana's marital and personal distress made it clear, even to the greatest doubters, that this book was indeed Diana's true story; and finally, in 1995, she revealed in a BBC interview that she had indirectly cooperated with Andrew Morton. What has not been known, however, until the publication of this new edition, is that "Diana: Her True Story" was in fact almost entirely based on her own words, supplemented by interviews with her friends. In 1991 and 1992, when this book was first conceived and written, Diana felt trapped and powerless within the royal family. She knew that the truth about her life was submerged under a mountain of royal propaganda. "Diana: Her True Story" chronicles Diana's unhappiness, which began shortly before her wedding day, and reveals the life of a young and beautiful woman who, trapped in a loveless marriage, had sunk to the depths of despair; from which recovery seemed impossible. In an act of desperation, she made the decision in 1991 to tell her own story, no matter what the cost. And so she and Andrew Morton began a collaboration that was to shake the royal family to its foundations and, eventually, force Diana to seek a new life. Tragically, that new, and briefly happy, life is over. This new edition contains the story of how the book first came into being. What's more, Diana is able, finally, to tell her own story, in her own words. Its pages contain her own testament-- the closest we will ever come to her autobiography.

This is the first time I've read this biography and I truly enjoyed how it was written and how it distinguished her part of the writing process. Very informative. #bookspin #nonfiction @thearomaofbooks

#MayMontage Day 5: Possibly #22ndOnYourTBR - husband and I watched the final (available) season of The Crown and naturally I had to hunt this book down while we were in the UK two weeks back. It wasn‘t easy finding a copy, actually. More on my book hunting expedition post on Sunday.

Eggs I went through a serious obsession with all books Diana a few years back—it was fun to watch on The Crown how that book came about 👏🏻👏🏻 2y

This book was originally published in 1992. It was updated and re-published 25 years later. The closest we will ever get to a true autobiography of Diana as she secretly collaborated on it‘s creation. Diana wanted to maintain complete anonymity with the book as she knew how much conflict would arise with the Royal Family. Andrew Morton revealed her cooperation with the book following her tragic death in 1997.

Let's see if I can get January's reads and challenges updated finally

I found this pretty good but not great. I have mixed feelings about the entire Diana drama in the first place and this book was definitely meant to be one-sided. It's just as I expected it to be 🤷‍♀️

I watched a special the other night on Princess Diana and realized I never read her story. I found it quite interesting but sad. To see where she came from, what she faced in the Royal family, how she overcame all that, and ending up the Princess of the World.

I can only imagine the reaction to this when it was first published. Almost 30 years later though, its contents have largely been covered elsewhere. This edition contained transcriptions of Diana‘s tape which was the best part in my opinion. Very interesting to read Diana‘s actual words.

An interesting book but a little repetitive and rambling. Morton does a good job of describing Diana‘s side of the story. However, I‘d like to read an objective account taking in both sides of the marriage and divorce of Charles and Diana. At times I found myself frustrated with her privileged attitude about her own suffering, but I cried at Britain‘s reaction to her death. She has definitely had an emotional impact worldwide—whether good or bad.

TrishB I don‘t think an objective account will ever exist. 4y
Rebesta @TrishB - Nor do I. Everyone has to be in either camp Charles or camp Diana with most falling into the later. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TrishB I wondered about that... 4y

TrishB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Rebesta to be fair it‘s very hard to get an objective view of anyone‘s marriage. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TrishB that is very true!!! 4y

I read Diana's biography5 years ago (slovenian edition) and now I listened an audiobook. She was an amazing woman. A strong, powerful and beautiful on the outside, but deep inside her she suffer. She is one of the most powerful and iconic women from history. I liked this audiobook even if I already know the story.

Even though I lived through this story from start to finish, this book provided details behind the headlines and the pictures. Now I know how much loneliness the divorce caused her, the caustic nature of the royal family and Charles‘ deep love for Camilla. All I can say is you must do you: marry your true love - skip the virgin requirement and dump the jerk in the crown.

Such an interesting and revelatory read. I‘d heard about this years ago when it was published but never thought to read it until now. Such a sad life for someone who looked like she had everything.

On another note, no reading pics today as I‘m flying home from Mexico, boo! Here‘s a pic that I really like of some of my tattoos. ☀️ 🇲🇽 🏖 🏝 ✈️ ☹️

This is one of those biographies where you hug the book because you can't hug the person. Diana was amazing inside and out and she would've been a great queen.
It's easy to tell why she's loved by so many people and after reading the love I have for her has grown

I've read a lot of books as well as magazines over the years. Majesty & Royalty during HRH Diana, Princess of Wales. Just a few months before her death, my entire collection was stolen by movers from a reputable moving company. Never recovered it nor received compensation. It was then a double shock when she died so suddenly on 31 August 1997. These days I try to grab every conspiracy books out there.

#SeptemBowie #day13 #UnderPressure I don't think they're was or will be again,a public figure under as much pressure as Diana,Princess Of Wales. Under fire from all fronts, the media,a neglectful husband who was in love with another woman,in-laws that put all the blame on her for their disintegrating marriage & the Royal PR machine who kept rolling her out like a prize goose even when she was clearly unwell. How she didn't breakdown I don't know.
