Mehso-so

Finished The Pelican Brief recently. Enjoyed it, but didn‘t think it was as great as some of my friends did. I think it‘s just too dated and unrealistic for me to have liked it as much as they remembered. Overall 3⭐️

Not the most PC novel, but it's been on my shelf for ages and like a lot of mysteries, it follows a slew of different characters. Soooo gonna be using it for a book with multiple POVs 🤷🏽‍♀️
P.S. Yes, those are Mickey Mouse PJ pants. No shame 😅

Person by me: *looks over* Whoa! That‘s an old book!

Me: *looks up the copyright, which is 1992* *looks over the person, who appears to be a guy in his 30s* What‘s that make you? Ancient?

Grisham is always good for a page-turner. Darby Shaw, a Tulane law student, teams up with a Washington post reporter to get to the bottom of 2 assassinations. Lots of intrigue, spying, and chases. Perfect winter break read. #40thbdaychallenge #1993.

#Marchintothe70s I‘m pretty sure I spent most of the 90s reading everything by John Grisham. This story set in the #BlueBayou opens with the shocking double murder of two Supreme Court Justices. Darby Shaw, a law school student writes a brief believing that the assassinations were committed on behalf of an oil tycoon who seeks to drill on Louisiana marshland making these deaths an environmental issue not political. Intrigue & espionage ensue.

Cathythoughts I don‘t think I‘ve ever read him. Would one of his do for #politicalIntrigue ? 5y
RachelAmphlett One of my favourites of his - they didn‘t do such a bad job with the film, either 5y
Sungirl79 I spent the 90‘s the same way. They are so good! 5y

Cinfhen Yes @Cathythoughts ABSOLUTELY ‼️ 5y
Cinfhen At some point they started getting a bit formulated @RachelAmphlett @Sungirl79 but in the early days, Grisham was the best 💚😊❗️ 5y
Sungirl79 @Cinfhen Yes I totally agree 5y
TrishB I gave up on them too! 5y
Andrew65 I loved a lot of his writing pre 2000 but around that time the quality deteriorated with the odd exception. @Cinfhen @TrishB @Sungirl79 @RachelAmphlett @Cathythoughts (edited) 5y
Bklover I remember this one- I used to read him regularly. I think @Andrew65 is correct. As regularly as I used to read him (90‘s) I no longer even check out his new book descriptions. 5y
Cinfhen I think it became same old same old and his books lacked originality @Bklover @Andrew65 @TrishB I won 2 of his newer books from a GoodReads Giveaway and I still haven‘t read them 😬🤫🤭 5y
jpmcwisemorgan I‘ve not read Pelican Brief but I really like the movie. 5y
gradcat @Cinfhen Ditto moi! I thought he was the absolute greatest...loved 5y
gradcat Oh, and, what about Cli-Fi? 5y
RachelAmphlett @Cinfhen they did, didn‘t they? Loved the early stuff though - probably up to The Rainmaker 5y
Lizpixie One of my favourite Grisham‘s. I much prefer the book to the movie, this and A Time To Kill are his best.💙 5y

I love Grisham's early books. All fast-paced reads and (mostly) easy for a layperson to understand the legal jargon. Also, Darby is a wonderfully strong female character, which only adds to my enjoyment.

John Grisham always delivers. I‘ve seen the movie, just never read the book until now. Just another awesome book that is so much better than the movie.

#tbt to an unexpected find in a hotel gift shop that made 27 hours on a train bearable. In 1993, I went to Disney World with my high school band. On the train. That should tell you all you need to know. But I had read all my books on the train down, so I needed something to occupy my time on the trip home. I pulled this off a display the morning we left, and I was immediately engrossed in politics and journalism and law. Still my favorite Grisham.

Megabooks Great story! 8y
JPrecht That was my first Grisham as well, and I read it on a choir tour (so many hours in a bus)! What a great read! 8y
Dragon I enjoyed the book and watched the movie on tv not too long ago 8y

LauraBrook This was my second Grisham but I remember being Obsessed with his writing for awhile. (The Firm was my first.) 8y
jpmcwisemorgan I've not read the book but the movie is one of my favorites. I like the intrigue and conspiracy aspects, but then I think a lot of environmental damage is the result of conspiracies. I'm weird like that. 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag It'd take at least 20 hours on a plane for me to get to Disneyland 🙃 (worth it tho) 8y

John Grisham never disappoints. He somehow makes the south likable, even to someone is who no big fan of slow southern drawls and fried pickles. His stories are intriguing and encapsulating. You really can't go wrong with one of his books.
