I‘m usually not a big fan of books written in first person, but this one was a happy exception! A wife who doesn‘t know her husband is a serial killer; she‘s accused of being his “helper”; she‘s acquitted and on the run—with their two kids; she has to pull up stakes often to get away from internet “warriors”; more murders with her husband‘s MO; she gets accused. Scary stuff, but a glimpse at guilt by association. I will look for more by Caine!

Not exactly a powerhouse but it was still a good book. Having been the victim of a stalker ex-husband 25 years ago, I still have a bit of PTSD. I realize this is fiction but I can‘t imagine finding out your husband is a serial killer. I admire Gwen‘s strength and tenacity in doing everything she can to keep herself and her kids safe. #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

Gina picks her kids up one day and comes home to a drunk driver having crashed into her house, exposing the garage as a torture chamber and her husband as a serial killer. A few years later she's been acquitted of any involvement but many people believe she's guilty. Now called Gwen she's been on the run with her kids, trying to protect them from the families of the victims, the internet "sicko patrol" & from her ex. All are about to catch up ⬇️

bookandbedandtea ⬆️ to catch up with them at Stillhouse Lake. This wild ride is well written. Too well, as I was afraid to keep listening and had to take a couple breaks. So despite rating this as an absolute pick, I do not plan to continue the series. This was very psychologically chilling and I don't think I can handle the rest. 🙈🙉🙊 2y

Reggie This book stokes that fear in me that I‘ll end up with someone who I had no idea was a serial killer. You see them on the tv where the cops tell them what‘s happening and they chuckle and say, my husband? you must have the wrong man, I can‘t even get him to clean the kitchen. But he has been busy. Killing! 2y

#LittensDressedInBlood #Day4 #EveryBreathYouTake This first in the series by the late Rachel Caine definitely fits the prompt. Gina Royal is a normal mum of two until her husband is revealed as a twisted serial killer & is put behind bars for life. Now known as Gwen Proctor, she‘s stalked not only by her ex‘s fanatic followers, but also by the families of his victims who are convinced she knew more than she claimed about his murders. Great series👍

🎧 I really enjoyed this suspenseful thriller!!

Woman & 2 kids return home to police everywhere. Apparently her husband is a serial killer & police think she‘s an accomplice. He goes to jail & she is acquitted.

Even though she‘s innocent everyone blames her. Her & the kids change their names & move from place to place. They are hounded by people who want to harm them. Relentless!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/5 👇🏻

Twainy People who hate. Misplaced moral outrage. These horrible people are keyboard warriors doing nothing but harm.

Stillhouse Lake ... this is where they land in one of their moves ... 2 bodies show up in the lake and the spotlight is back.

While parts were totally implausible (such as Mel‘s workshop), I enjoyed this suspenseful thriller. TW: some fairly gruesome murder scenes. This is the story of a wife/mother who goes on the run when she discovers she‘s been married to a serial killer for 9 years. I especially liked the transformation of Gina (a shy bit of a doormat) into Gwen (a tough take-charge fighter). Well written, look forward to reading more in series. 4/5⭐️

TheAromaofBooks This one is on my TBR but I'm a little scared it may be too gruesome for me. 3y
robinb @TheAromaofBooks I was a little afraid of it as well, but actually the story/characters took center stage. The “gruesome” didn‘t really involve the actual murders but the aftermath/body conditions. I made it through OK. 3y

Need to escape into two heart-pounding thrillers? I recommend these. Both combine a unique story, driven by great characters, murder, and the realities of a world connected 24/7 to the Internet. In book one, the voice is all Gwen Proctor who‘s been through hell and is just trying to keep herself and her kids safe. The audio was great and i immediately started book 2.

A nice little page turner of a murder mystery with the right amount of gore and twists. This book was very hard to put down. I couldn‘t read it fast enough, in anticipation of finding out “who done it”. I preferred the first 3/4 of the book to the end. 3.5/5⭐️This was a reread for me & caused me to change my original rating. I downgraded from 5 to 3.5 stars. I was enamored with the concept, the story and the location—which kept me blind to the flaws. Gwen is a badass but she‘s unreliable as a MC. Her self-loathing is suffocating; her paranoia smothering. Descriptions of locations were confusing and hard to picture on occasion. And really? You never looked in your garage? 🤨 Yeah, right! ⬇️

MoonWitch94 Gwen is a contradiction: paranoid & hyper alert one minute then blindly naive the next. Her kids have more maturity and common sense than she does on occasion. For these reasons, I downgraded my rating. But I still really enjoyed it and can‘t wait to finish the series. 4y

Book 2 of #newyearwhodis - Gina Royal‘s life is turned upside down when it‘s uncovered that her husband is a serial killer. The public assumes she is guilty too. She and her two children go into hiding from the stalkers and internet trolls. On identity number 8 and starting over in a small lake town, Gina, now Gwen, thinks maybe she can loosen up a bit, then a body is found floating in the lake.

This was great. I was totally sucked into it ⬇️

Bookzombie and invested in Gwen and her kids. Even though I had the killer figured out very early, I didn‘t see everything that was coming and I was propelled to keep reading. I have already put the second book on hold to read soon. #Booked2020 #FinishInADay

Finished January 19.

Bookish_AF Yay! What I found the most memorable about this book and why it stuck with me was her all encompassing paranoia and it was portrayed so well it made ME paranoid just reading it! 4y

Bookzombie @whippoorwill815 I agree! I started thinking about social media. I want to think this wouldn‘t happen, but I‘m not so sure. Society is so quick to make judgements. With the internet, it‘s so easy to put it out there and fire up others. Possibly motivating someone to really act out the threats. 4y
Bookzombie @Cinfhen Thanks! ☺️ 4y
Bookzombie @4thhouseontheleft Thank you! It was a Dollar Tree find and will probably be in pictures all year long. Lol. 4y
