A novel that is somewhat based on the unlikely events of three plane crashes in New Jersey in the same small town. The characters are all like able. I liked them. The story plot takes the characters from young ages to decades later. 3.75/5⭐️

Due to the subject matter, this is not an easy read. In 3 months at the end of 1951 and beginning of 1952, the residents of Elizabeth, New Jersey experienced a series of airplane accidents. This story is based upon that period and told through the eyes of teenage Miri and her family and friends. These 3 months affected their entire lives, split loves and anchored loves.
“Life is a series of unlikely events, isn't it? Hers certainly is. One unlikely event after another, adding up to a rich, complicated whole. And who knows what's still to come?”
Loved it. Just like I have loved everything Blume has ever written.
I really liked the book. I was really drawn in with the descriptive writing and the well-researched “news articles.” I loved seeing the different perspectives and the way everyone‘s lives were connected. I loved seeing how there could be hope even in the most despairing of times.
My main issue was how jumpy it could be between the povs. I think it would have been better to divide them between chapters. I also wasn‘t too fond of the ending.
Not sure I would have finished it wasn‘t for the allure of reading Judy Blume as an adult, and the fact that it based on her childhood hometown, where 3 planes crashed in 6 months or less. It was good, and compelling; just not great.
Bailed... it just wasn't holding my attention.
I might try again another.
I used to adore Judy Blume as a young teen..See what her adult fiction is like..
I LOVED Judy Blume as a kid but I‘ve never read her books for adults. Someone gave this one to me and I need to give it a chance. #AugustAuthors
#AugustAuthors Day 15: Few people seem to know that #JudyBlume also wrote for adults. I bought this years ago but haven‘t had a chance to read it yet. Story of my life.
Like others have said, there are lots of characters to keep up with and remember how they‘re related. Overall it was an ok read. I couldn‘t bail bc it‘s Judy Blume.
When 3 plane crashes occur in a month, it affects a person, a community & relationships. For 15 year old Miri, the year the planes crashed changed everything she had known up to that point. For me this book was slow. Keeping the characters straight and knowing how they connected with one another was a chore rather than enjoyable. I found this book to be mildly entertaining enough to finish but really not worth the read.
Hi there friends! 👋🏻 I'm taking an extended social media break this month! So things will be quiet around here. I'm planning to return in March when I'll catch you up on all the latest news about life and what I've been reading! See you next month!
Happy Weekend Littens! Unfortunately I won't be around too much as I'm driving to Seattle today to visit a friend for the weekend but I wanted to pop in and say hello. 👋🏻 And I'll do my best to join in on some conversations when I can.
This year I've been using a TBR Jar to try & read books from my own shelves & is the one I picked for February! Have you read it?

Definitely a great book. It was a bit challenging to follow because there were so many characters that were being followed to the aftermath of the three plane crashes but definitely was worth it in the end. I finished it and since life had happened had not been able to really analysis my feelings of all that took place until now.
All I can say is it definitely had some OMG moments of things that occured that were completely unexpected.
So I am 38% into this book. It has had its highs and lows so far. Sometimes a bit difficult to keep up with since there are so many different viewpoints going on surrounding their friendships and lives after the crash.

Another good reading month, apart from reading books off MountTBR, which was a big fat zero! 😬 Too many other exciting books to read... 😁
So far I'm 19% into thos book. It is getting interesting. I am so intrigued to see what is to come.
Slow start but get to page 51 and everything changes. #Summersendreadathon
Just finished Chapter 1. A lot of different characters are narrating so it was a bit confusing but I am going to continue on. #Summersendreadathon
This novel is built around real-life events in Elizabeth, #newjersey in 1951/ 1952, when 3 plane crashes occurred in the town in the space of 3 months, following the impact of the events on 15 year old Miri and her family and friends.
I started it this morning and couldn‘t put it down - 5 ⭐️
In other news, I spent time today working out books for my remaining states - some from the library, some Libby and 2 cheapies on Kindle.

Some work days just call for grilled cheese and Judy Blume. #BookandLunch
Got this yesterday in the #HelloFrom swap & finished it today. Thanks @heikemarie for this wonderful read. I couldn‘t put it down & enjoyed it immensely. ☺️
A wonderful book that comes under the “I can‘t believe it‘s based on real events” banner. My first adult Blume novel too - but you can spot the similarities and same style as her stuff for younger readers.
Heike, thank you so much! My #HelloFrom box is amazing! It‘s hard to see, but she put NJ factoids on each item. It‘s so cool to read. And both books are related to NJ. I love it! ❤️ Thank you so much! ☺️💜
P.S. you have really neat & pretty handwriting!
Getting started with my #24in48 reading! Starting with one of my favorite authors, Judy Blume 😍
Dishwasher running a clean cycle. Kids getting along. This gives me a chance for some audio book and Lost Ocean Coloring Book.

A story about several plane crashes in a New Jersey neighborhood. I'm a huge fan of Blume and I love her kid titles but I must say I'm not a huge fan of her adult titles. I'm hesitant to read this one due to mixed reviews.
“When something so unimaginable happens you need to find a new way to help people see it.” I loved how Judy Blume tells this story from various character viewpoints in short chapter bursts and with newspaper reports.
#NuYear #TheAircrashbureau This was my first Judy Blume book in over 35 years and it didn‘t disappoint. Based on true events that JB lived through as a teenager in the early 1950‘s when air travel was both glamorous and dangerous. In 1952 in the space of 3 months, 3 fatal plane crashes occurred over the same small town. This book follows residents of Elizabeth NJ as they deal with the fallout. Fascinating history and great coming of age story.

In the unlikely event Lillian Boxfish takes a walk when the moon is low promise me a walk to remember.
I think library book sales are better than my birthday.
I have always loved Judy Blume. I'm loving this book too, and I'm planning to take her Masterclass on writing.
I know it‘s been used already, but this is the first book that popped into my head for #bigJetPlane #tuneintonovember @Cinfhen @Robothugs
Judy Blume is a goddess, and I'm truly surprised I haven't read this one yet! Stacked!

Have any of my fellow Littens read this book? Would you recommend? Please let me know. ☺️
Bailing on my book club's pick after the first plane crash. This topic is a huge trigger for me and I value my sanity over my book club discussion this month. Hopefully they'll understand! 🤞🏻
Finally getting around to reading this. So far, it's not bad. I'm pretty sure the last Judy Blume I read was when I was 15!
There was a signed first edition Judy Blume at Goodwill that needed a new home. I happily volunteered my shelves. #usedbooks #treasurehunt #adoptabook
