This month for the #ReadwithMrBook challenge, I picked the tagged for the #debutnovel prompt. Then, I ended up reading The Clergyman‘s Wife, which is also a debut. @MrBook
This is a story about a group of med students (set in Ky), the events of their 3rd year, and their present-day lives (set in Charlotte, NC). The setting mirrors Martin‘s life. The story reminded me at times of Grey‘s Anatomy-not a bad thing since I was obsessed with GA for the first seasons. The story is somewhat predictable & the characters could have had more depth, but overall, this is great #debut novel. #readwithmrbook. Also, ❤️ the cover.
1. Tagged book and started I Was Anastasia on audio.
2. Fantasy

I decided to borrow the tagged book from my mom. She got it last year but will probably never read it. She always has some excuse to not sit down and read (she‘s too busy, needs to clean, etc). She also gave me A World Lost, one of the first Wendell Berry books I read. It‘s signed to my grandfather; mom had gotten it for him in 1997, so she passed it on to me.
Martin's debut is a medical drama that's a study in the complexities of relationships. She explores the sometimes delicate and obligatory aspect of a long-term relationship, especially those that are forged by women. Sometimes these relationships are tolerated, not unlike marriages, not only because of the time put in, but because of the shared secrets. A solid debut. If you are a fan of Grey's Anatomy, I highly encourage you to pick up this book.
Finally finished this book. Zadie and Emma have been best friends since medical camp practically grew up together, joined the same fields. Are Happily married bestfriends until a past"boyfriend" shows up and threatens their friendship.
"We thump for all sorts of reasons. Some are beautiful and life affirming. Some are misguided, recognizable to everyone but you as catastrophically stupid."
Ain't that the #truth
A soapy summer read that kept me entertained if a little exasperated. I wish she hadn‘t taken a cue from Liane Moriarty with the whole “I‘ll wait until 80% in to tell you what happened” because it cheapens things. Not to mention you saw it coming from a mile away. But it was a fun little diversion. 3.5🌟
I know they manifest in different ways for different folks but this description is SPOT ON. For me, at least.
Huh, I did not realize I placed tagged book on my TBR until today while I was searching for a flowery book cover.

If you love medical dramas, like ER, you‘ll adore this book. Zadie and Emma are interns in Louisville Kentucky (yay for my home!) and encounter the long hours and complicated relationships that go along with it. We switch up between 1999 during their intern years to present day Charlotte NC where they are now employed doctors with husbands and families. This was a page turner and the character development of Zadie and Emma is fantastic.
Time to switch over from the heavier reads to the first of my book club books.
⭐️3/5
Bought the book simply for the cover, and it was hard for me to get into it at first. But once I did I couldn‘t put it down! A story on love, loss, betrayal, and friendship that makes you think about things a little more.
Wow did I receive this book at just the right time. It has added some drama, spice and witty reminders of little children running around. Highly suggested if you like medical dramas and books that you can read really fast. Bumping up my books read in February!
I loved this book.... I felt like was reading an episode of grey‘s anatomy (a show that I love!). A good reminder of how not only life but love can define who we are. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wanted to love this. Medical Dramas are my favorite type of tv. But I have so many mixed feelings. I narration felt off (switching from past to present and switch between Emma and Zadie). I would of enjoyed it more without Emma‘s narration and smoother time transitions. The mystery was really obvious and describing everyone‘s beauty was cringe worthy. But it kept me engaged enough to continue. 🤷♀️
Best medical drama in awhile. You connect so deeply with all the characters. Its an easy read that gets real heavy in the middle to the end.
Yay! Just compleated #LitsyAtoZ

This was my first adult novel in ages. I found it far more angsty than I expected.
Packages on their way out!
@suvata your book is on its way home and @The_Naughty_Librarian your Nov/Dec #feedareader package is headed your way!
This book was underwhelming and as one of my fellow #lmpbc reviewers stated, quite juvenile. I would much rather watch an episode of Grey‘s Anatomy than read it. It was decent mindless reading material though and the cover is beautiful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This wraps up the final book of round three! I enjoyed doing this with you ladies @suvata @Laura317 @arubabookwoman
I plan to spend Sunday evening with a good book and some locally roasted (decaf) coffee. #libraryhaul #bookhaul
The rain cancelled our pool plans so starting this one! #plussidetotherain
😂😂😂 kids can be such goofs sometimes
For anyone who saw my post yesterday and wondered what the books were 😁 @riversong153 @BookwormAHN @Soubhiville @NeesyBeth @WanderingBookaneer @StephanieMarie @erzascarletbookgasm
A favorite portion of my newly organized bookshelves. I love sprayed edges, can you tell? Let's see who can ID each of these books! (FYI third from the left is actually pink, not red.)
This was a fun summer read! For the full review, and reviews of books I read in July: http://www.bornandreadinchicago.com/2018/08/books-i-read-in-july.html
Just received this in the mail from @suvata for Group P - I can‘t wait to start it, but will wait until the weekend.
I “killed two birds” with one stone by reading this:

I loved this book. I was merely enjoying what I thought was a book about two best friends who also happened to be doctors. I was half way through when I realized there was a mystery to be solved. A definite pick for a soapy summer read.

This is the book I am thinking of using for round three. What do y‘all think?
Such a beautiful cover!! #bookhearts #readingresolutions @Jess7
I want to support local authors, so it pains me to give a big 👎🏽 to this one, but I cannot support the subtle racism and weird stereotypes that popped up in this book.
One example: writing like this for a black woman who works in the healthcare field: “Now how you reckon I‘m gon‘ know something like that Dr. Colley? He just say he got something he need to discuss with you.”
Plus, the Grey‘s anatomy exaggerated drama was just way overdone.
It is so weird reading a book that is set in a place I know so well - the hospital and medical community in Charlotte.
Especially, when I read a paragraph like this, which seems like a indirect jab at the surgical practice where my husband is one of the partners (the author is using fictionalized names). His practice is the largest surgical group in Charlotte, and has been negotiating with the hospital over these exact issues in recent years. 😵
Starting this one with the hope of finishing before the neighborhood book club tomorrow!
It‘s set in my current hometown, Charlotte, NC. The author is a local doctor, and one of the characters is a surgeon - in the same hospital system where my husband works as a surgeon - so I had to read this new release! I am guessing I will either love it or hate it completely. 😂
Hopefully it won‘t be a Grey‘s Anatomy style of book. 🤣
I have so many mixed feelings about this book. The main thing was I was engaged, and did not want to put it down, but there was something about this story that just does not sit well with me.
I have heard so many good things about this one. Just love a three day weekend, to focus on more reading.
