Delightful! Loved the first book of the Wallflowers series. Somehow I‘ve never read this one. Great listening on #audio while I started to scan all of my books into #libib with the barcode scanner my sweetheart got me for my birthday. So much fun! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

I finished this one this morning as I was cleaning the house…I became hooked on historical romances during the pandemic and had not listened to this one yet. I think I‘m not as riveted anymore!

Overall, this was an okay listen. Nothing truly wrong with the story, and it‘s my understanding that the version I listened to from Audible is an updated text version from the original 2004 publication. I did find myself annoyed with the possessiveness…

Librarybelle …of the lead male character, Simon Hunt, who did not seem to take Annabelle‘s initial “no‘s” and “go away‘s” as actual “no” statements. But, as the story unfolds, you learn a bit more about Simon and Annabelle, and Kleypas introduces readers to the limited roles spinsters and can play in society. The story grew on me. Maybe I‘ll listen to book two in the series at some point, but I‘m not going to binge the series right away! 1y
ravenlee I read a Kleypas romance a few months ago and it had some really problematic stuff, too. I don‘t think I‘ll read her again, between my experience and reviews like yours! 1y
Librarybelle @ravenlee I read that one during my binge pandemic listen time and remember liking it, but it also makes me wonder if these stories were such good distractions for me during that time that anything would sound good. Or at least, would not make me pause and think about the underlying thoughts of the characters. 1y

Decided to DNF this. I didn't get very far, just wasn't too into it. I think I am gonna go back into a mystery. Or maybe a Sci-fi. We'll see.

I read Evie‘s story (book 3), now going back and starting at the beginning of the Wallflowers series. I enjoyed Annabelle & Simon‘s story.

After a slow reading week (grief, changes at work, life), I finally completed my foray into the Wallflowers. I always forget how much action Kleypas can get into a book and am excited for the rest of the series.

robinb So sorry for your troubled week, but I agree...Kleypas is wonderful. 💜 3y
mdemanatee @robinb thank you! Things are looking up and this was exactly what I needed in the downtime, even if it took me longer than usual to get to. Surprised I still have so much Kleypas backlist but also kind of glad. 3y

I‘m working my way through Lisa Kleypas Wallflowers series. And I actually started on the 1st book! Probably because this is the order they are coming in from Libby.

I like reading before I go to bed, but my book light bothers the hubby. And I can only read Romance on my iPad. So I‘ve been reading a lot lately.

I loved Annabelle. And so glad that she made friends with the other wallflowers. At first I didn‘t like Simon, but he grows on you!

Thanks to @CoverToCoverGirl I‘ve started a new #romantsy series The Wallflowers ❤️🔥👍 Four young women find themselves relegated to the sidelines during the London season, alone they have been unsuccessful but together they will catch that most elusive of all prey -a rich and/or titled husband. A fun historical romp.

CoverToCoverGirl You‘re welcome! I adore her wallflower series.. who am I kidding, I pretty much adore everything she‘s written! ❤️😍 6y

A good enough regency romance though there were large swathes I felt a little bored. And honestly it may have been my bad mood of the last couple days but I was not that into the MCs and skimmed over the sexy times ( don't know what it is, I enjoy the plots of romance novels but I always feel slightly bored by the sex scenes despite being the polar opposite of prudish in my single days 🤷). Starting the next book so enjoyed it enough!

I'm blabby tonight. Another quick note about this --Iike the depiction of a *new* friendship that allows for autonomy and holding back. Female friendship is always depicted as either tell-all with the sassy sidekicks offering wordly advice or commentary at every turn or a frenemy thing. This is neither and I enjoy seeing a friendship evolve with MC still keeping her own council in some regards and falling more slowly into intimacy.

This us actually quite good but I'm feeling distracted. Like it's ostensibly better than Mine Till Midnight but I'm not as unaccountably addicted (I swoon for Cam even though logically as a 21st century Feminist, I have some issues with his pursuit. I'm still conflicted over this and it's been months.) I'm definitely going to be reading this whole series! I love the emphasis on female friendship.

I enjoyed this book. I was having a difficult time getting into it at first, but I think it was more because I was reading several books at once, and I just can't do that. Once I got back to just this book, I had a difficult time putting it down. I love the group of wallflowers and look forward to reading the next book.

I've discovered historical romances lately and I'm really enjoying them for when I'm stressed or not feeling well! So far, I really like Eloisa James, Lisa Kleypas and Courtney Milan - what other authors should I try?

Johanna414 @Jas16 @CoffeeK8 Thanks! You guys are awesome! I just downloaded a Sarah Maclean title since you both recommended her. I see that many of Julia Quinn's books are part of a series- is it important to read them in order? 8y
nitalibrarian I recommend Julie Anne Long, Sherry Thomas, Amy Sandas, Cecilia Grant, Erin Satie, and Kerrigan Byrne. 8y
CoverToCoverGirl Julie Garwood, and Kathleen Woodiwiss are excellent! 😃 8y
Jas16 I read the Julia Quinn's out of order and still enjoyed them 8y
CoffeeK8 It doesn't really matter, characters show up after they get together, but that's not really giving anything away, you know. Also I second the Sherry Thomas recommendation! 8y
Johanna414 @nitalibrarian @CoverToCoverGirl Thanks everyone! Nothing better than a list of authors to check out!!! 👍 8y
Pinkmeghan I love Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series! Also, Lauren Willig, Tessa Dare, and Jennifer Ashley are great too! 8y

First Lisa Kleypas! I love that this book has a solidly middle-class hero, and explains the drawbacks of the gentry and aristocracy. I enjoyed it and will definitely plan on reading more. #romantsy

Y'all. This book is everything I love about historicals. Annabelle belongs somehow to the nobility class, but she is very poor and needs to marry well to support her mother and brother. Meanwhile, she's fighting an intense attraction to Simon Hunt who is not of the nobility class. He's an entrepreneur. The class dynamics in this book are so intriguing! I love seeing this side of things. Highly recommend! #romantsy #PopSugarChallenge

One of the best romances I've read so far. I loved the friendship between the Wallflowers, established almost before any romance, and I appreciate that it was equally weighted in the story. The industrial storyline added depth and historical credibility too. I'll be reading the others, for sure!
