Week 2 - Activity- walkabout
It‘s been grey here for the last three weeks with maybe 2 days of sun, today on the walk to school -blue skies! No snow, but it is bitter cold 29F with wind. At school(k-12) we have just over 1,000 multilingual learners that come from 35 countries and speak 28 different languages. All of them are enamored with pine trees. It‘s fun to see. 🌲 (my school 22 languages, 25 countries.)

IndoorDame Stunning! I was totally enamored of🌲 when I was in grade school too, but I can‘t think of the word for them in a single other language. You could amass such a fun collection from all your little learners! 5mo
AllDebooks So many beautiful trees x 5mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame most say it‘s the tree of Christmas árbol de Navidad instead of pine tree (pino) in Spanish or north pole tree or Santa tree it‘s really quite fascinating .. they don‘t understand that they (the trees) grew in so many or so many kinds. They were thinking there was a singular tree. (edited) 5mo

dabbe 🤩🤩🤩 5mo
Suet624 Your school must work very hard to accommodate so many languages! 5mo
TheBookHippie @Suet624 Yes, it does -the day is not as traditional as other schools breakfast and lunch is free and breakfast is eaten in classrooms before start of day, this creates lots of learning I read one on one with kiddos the same kiddos for this very reason, there is massive volunteer opportunity and we are also hooked up with a large retirement village that buses the “grandma grandpa” peeps to read one on one with kids. It‘s many working parts. (edited) 5mo
Suet624 @TheBookHippie that‘s great! 5mo

My dad's in town today, so we went for a nice, long walk through Central Park on this super gorgeous day. This stretch is one of my favorite spots in the Spring - it's called the Literary Walk 😄🌳🌤
