(2019) Kin Stewart is a time cop who gets stranded in the 1990s and, against protocols, settles down to make a life for himself. Almost twenty years later his employer "rescues" him, returning him to the 22d century where he has an entirely separate life. It's a more interior book than my usual preference, focused more on Kin's emotional state than on plot, which for me makes it drag in spots. But it wraps up nicely.
Thank you so much @sblbooks for this awesome #staycationintime to the future!!! 🤩😍🤩I‘m so excited for these books & I love the extra goodies you sent!! The alarm clock was a stroke of genius 🤓😉 Thank you thank you!!! ♥️🧬🩵🔭🩶🧪💚
And thanks to wonderful hosts @Chrissyreadit and @DinoMom for such a fun swap! #staycationintimeswap 🤗😘♥️
Also showing me-at-pool to give some street cred to the idea of me taking a staycation 😜🏊🏽♀️🩵
I love time travel in sci-fi and for me this book smashed it out of the park. An interesting story, plenty of humour and heart, and not too much « overly futuristic » 2142 tech (at least in my opinion—would be interesting to hear what a reader in 2162 thinks of a book set in a future that is their past ?).
After a fateful encounter, time traveler Kin is unable to return to his own time and ends up settling down into a job, getting married, and having a child. Eighteen years after he was stranded, a recovery agent from his own time comes to retrieve him, upending his world. This is my third read from Chen and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Emotional time travel book about a father desperately trying to save his daughter from the choices he made that ruined her life.
Mike Chen is an excellent writer and I will be exploring other reads by him, but this one is just a light pick for me. I felt myself comparing it too much to This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub.
My local coffeeshop has launched an investigation. 🕵️♀️🕵️
I've been meaning to check this one out for a while. Chapter 1 did not disappoint. Excited to see where it's going.

I really loved this book! I need to thank @peanutnine for recommending it. Otherwise I would have never read it. I'm a visual person & can't help but choose a book by its cover, title or author. Neither of those captivated me. Man, I was wrong. I'm glad I read it. This book is beautiful and very emotional. more👇🏼
LUNA🌙 is ready!! ❤ I LOVE her!

LUNA !!! I love this sketch! 😍 Maybe I'll stay with her! Luna is Spanish for Moon. That's why she has a moon on the left side of her head. She's a very special cyborg. I'm already falling in love with her. ❤
Still listening to the tagged book and it's very good so far! 😃
LUNA is in progress. So excited about her. I have 3 different ideas of how she could look, so I may sketch those three. I still don't know.
Listening to the tagged book, recommended by @peanutnine Thank you!! So far, so good! 😃 👍
What is everyone doing?

I love me a good time travel story and this did not disappoint! Kin is a time travel agent from 2142. When his latest assignment goes wrong and gets him stranded in 1996, he forgets his old life and starts anew. Eighteen years later, his future comes to rescue him - only no time has passed for them but he now has a wife and child. Kin is torn between his two lives and his family is in danger since they shouldn't exist at all.
Not complicated, not completely predictable. Wasn‘t crazy about the writing style though. Quick read overall, but not a favorite. Premise was interesting, characters were ok, it just didn‘t live up to the promise for me.
I almost forgot to post my September #doublespin! This was a nice time travel story that played with the grandfather paradox in fun ways. Some great, nerdy female characters, too 🥰
Audiobook, so pic of my fav walking companion
A delicious page-turner for those who love time travel books. What an adventure!!! Loved it!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this fun and heartwarming adventure about a father risking everything and reaching across time to save his daughter, who isn‘t supposed to exist because he had her in a timeline prior to his own timeline. There are no DeLoreans in this story, but Chen manages to make email a nail biter of a time travel device. Pretty impressive, no? 😉 I‘m looking forward to reading his other novels sometime in the near future.🏮#mayreads2021
Immersive writing... time travel... family and the choices we make. This is my favorite read so far this year ❤️
This was my birthday present. I had read good reviews before, and liked the premise, a time traveller gets stranded. Unfortunately I didn't like the writing style. I also didn't care about the protagonist. There was much talk about his feelings, but I never connected with him. Apart from that it was a quick and easy read.
Reading goals for #weeklyforecast. Really enjoying Here and Then and Now!
Here and Now and Then is my favourite book this month. A book a day keeps the blahs away. #abookaday #readallthebooks
Love time travel books. Kin travels back in time on a mission but gets stuck. He marries and has a child but is then found and sent back to 2142 where we get to read about flying cars but not much else relating to the future. Only set back for me. I know we have flying cars because of the Jetsons, I want to learn more about the future!!! Good story about traveling in time. They better iron out the kinks when I get to go!:)
Oh my shit this book was amazing. I can‘t wait to read more from this author!
Breakfast this morning - homemade scones (see my post about how Royal Holiday made me crave scones https://reallifereading.com/2019/11/16/royal-holiday-made-me-do-it-weekendcookin... ) and this interesting time travel read by Mike Chen. Bonus: set in the Bay Area!

A very satisfying story, especially the ending...it was the perfectly whipped icing on a cherry chip cake...and I love cherry chip cake. See My Reveiw here https://leahsbookishobsession2.blogspot.com/2019/07/here-and-now-and-then-by-mik...
An engaging book that I just devoured! It‘s clear that the author really considered the mechanics of time travel and peppers them in throughout with being overwhelming. It was wonderfully emotional, and made me cry (family things always get to me)!
⭐⭐ ⭐Finished it up while relaxing on our new patio. Time travel. OK.
It says something that I loved the cover and the title more than the actual book. A time traveler becomes trapped in a past time for 18 years. During that time he gets married and has a daughter. Then his work comes back to rescue him thinking it has only been a few days. The premise is better than the execution. I had a hard time staying interested. I stuck with it because I kept thinking it would get better, but it never really clicked for me.
This is one of those books I wanted to start rereading the second I finished it. “Here and Now and Then” is a fun sci-fi ride avoid a time traveller stuck in the 1990s. 18 years later, his *rescue* team arrives, but by then Kin Stewart has a wife and daughter-and little memory of life in 2142. This book was fun, imaginative, and surprisingly emotional. I‘m excited to read it again (and maybe with another coffee martini 🤔🍸)
Time traveling secret agent living a life in the past and the future. ⏳🔙🔜
This book was incredible!! It was slow in the way that tugs at your heart strings and makes you think about the world, while it was fast paced in that the stakes were always high, and geeky in the way it reminded me of questions I used to wonder as a kid about magic and.... TIME TRAVEL. Really loved this book. Recommend!
Day 11 of #LiteraryLuck month is “Rainbow Stack.” And since I missed yesterday‘s theme of “Turn Back Time,” I‘m tagging Mike Chen‘s Here and Now and Then for this one. #Rainbow #RainbowStack
Decided to take part in this month‘s #LiteraryLuck photo challenge by @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @vkois88 . Starting with today‘s theme of a TBR shelfie, which is more like a pair of stacks on my headboard and the top of the closet. Probably gonna read Here and Now and Then next, but there‘s a lot of competition for my desire to read. #shelfie
Stranded in the 1990‘s, time traveller Kin Stewart integrates into society, has a family. The recovery team returns Kin to 2142, but what was 20 years for Kin has been a week for those in the future and he struggles to stay connected to both timelines. When he discovers his daughter is in danger he must protect her, at any cost. I LOVED this book! An engrossing, thought-provoking, irresistible, touching read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley #40in2019TBR
Book Mail!!! Was hoping this might arrive on my birthday yesterday, but I‘ll take it as a gift for my birth week. 😸

“We‘re all different people through our lives, but that‘s okay, as long as you remember all the people you used to be.” #24in48 #bookquote
Just preordered this debut from Mike Chen, a sci-fi adventure in which a time-traveling secret agent gets stranded in the 1990s & when he‘s rescued far too late, he has a daughter in the past who his rescue could wipe from existence. I‘ve followed Mike on Twitter & IG for a while, and he‘s a great guy. The book also has some great buzz. Especially if you‘re a “Doctor Who” fan, don‘t miss this book. #scifi #newrelease https://www.mikechenbooks.com
This was a terrific book. I liked the twist on time travel. I would have liked to spend more time learning about the future world but I get that it wasn‘t really the point of the story. I though Kin was a great main character and I really understood his thoughts and motivations. Such a good book especially for a debut novel.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A uniquely emotional genre-bending debut, Here and Now and Then captures the perfect balance of heart, playfulness, and imagination, offering an intimate glimpse into the crevices of a father‘s heart and its capacity to stretch across both space and time to protect the people that mean the most.
My favorite sci-fi books are the ones that build a credible enough world, but that focus more on the characters than on the science fiction. This is one of those books. Here and Now and Then is deeply human, investigating the complexities of family and loss and yes, time travel.
