Thrilling and decidedly creepy. Ollie, Coco, and Brian face off against the Smiling Man again.

Ollie, Coco and Brian go to a ski resort which is haunted, they run into the Smiling Man, and they must get themselves out of trouble and help the trapped ghosts. This is second in a series, but you do not need the first one to understand this one. The backstory of the ski resort , why it was haunted, was weak. Overall an okay read.🎃

Here is how I‘m planning to tackle my massive #MarvellousMarch TBR. I‘ll fill them in as I read, and some books will count for multiple challenges, but I‘ll focus on one “stage” at a time. 💚
If I somehow clear all of this, I‘ll focus on my #TrappedOnAnIsland picks next.
Here is my official March TBR, including picks for #MiddleGradeMarch, #ISpyBingo, #Roll100, #Foodie2023, #NonFiction2023, #SayMyName2023, #BookSpinBingo, #ReadySetRead, #MonthlyKeyWord, #MonthlyMotif, #FoodandLit, & #Buzzword2023! 💚
Still have to add in my books for #trappedonanisland and #backlistreadathon.

Book 2 in this MG spooky series was even better than the first. Ollie and her friends are trapped during a snowstorm inside a haunted house. But the house isn't haunted by your typical spirit, and the friends will be forced to face an old enemy if they want to stay alive and save their families.
Great atmosphere, excellent characterization, and the appropriate amount of creepy make this a superb read for all ages.
Another fun, spooky middle grade book perfect for an autumnal read. The sequel to Small Spaces finds Ollie, Coco & Coco off for a weekend of skiing at Mount Hemlock. What promises to be a fun, relaxing weekend quickly becomes something else when a snowstorm traps them in their lodge, a mysterious stranger arrives, Ollie starts hearing voices, and taxidermied animals start moving around even though that shouldn‘t be possible. Enjoyed this one.
Now Ollie, Brian, and Coco are headed to Mount Hemlock Resort to spend winter break skiiing and putting the events of Small Spaces behind them. But things turn sinister when a snow storm rolls in and refuses to let up, trapping them in the lodge. It‘s not long before they start seeing figures at the end of hallways and things moving in mirrors that shouldn‘t be there. I loved this sequel a lot! It was spookier and left me with chills.
Oops, posting out of order - finished this second book last night. I find it by far the creepiest of the three. Even having read it before, there were a couple scenes that had me wanting to quit rather than continue. Former orphanage turned ski resort, our trio gets trapped and must face both the Smiling Man and a cast of ghosts. Plus creepy taxidermied animals that move. Yeesh. #SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView
This is something like The Shining for kids - and yes, I loved it. Enjoyed it even more than book one. Especially how Coco faces her fears was very impressive. She's not one for adventures, but still goes against all odds for her friends.
Arden also just hits the right amount to scare kids and grown-ups as well.

A creepy tale - Ollie, Brian and Coco having to brave their way out. sequel to Small Spaces which I couldn‘t put down. I do have to say there is one plot point issue and I was disappointed that one of the characters disappeared for the entire book, maybe they‘ll have a stronger presence in the next one! Overall I enjoyed the friendship, smarts and strength. And I couldn‘t read it before bed because I‘m a scaredy cat, even with kids books. 😂😂😂
One ax murderer, one faerie king, 4 ghosts and some pumpkin spice and I‘d say my first #screamathon was a success! I read more than I thought I would and I got some titles off of my tbr pile. Thanks for hosting @4thhouseontheleft
Book 2 in the Small Spaces series for kids. Ollie, her two friends, her dad, and her friend's mom are snowed in at a nearly empty ski lodge/former orphanage that is haunted.
I liked this one much better than book 1, I enjoyed the whole trapped in the mountains with ghosts at the cabin. The fact that the villain came back and the kids actually spent time attempting to outsmart him and trick him in return was so much more satisfying.
This follow up to Small Spaces sees Ollie, Coco, & Brian on a trip to a mountain lodge for skiing with Ollie‘s dad & Coco‘s mom. But they get snowed in; strange & ghostly things are happening in the lodge. Ollie, Coco, & Brian are great characters..I love their friendship, & Ollie‘s relationship with her dad. This instalment shines a spotlight on Coco, & overall was more creepy than the first book. I was hugely entertained.

So I'm sitting on my couch reading, I've got the sounds of a snowstorm on my headphones and a candle lit (the mood is set). I'm about halfway in this book and shit has really started to go sideways. All of the sudden I hear "BATTERY LOW!" and about jump off the couch. ?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ohhh this chilling tale was the perfect spooky read! Ollie, Coco and Brian are back solving a new ghostly mystery but this time they are snowed in at Mount Hemlock ski lodge in Vermont. What is supposed to be a fun ski vacation quickly turns into something more sinister. I Enjoyed this just as much Small Spaces and I‘m hoping there is a third installment.
I present my horror free not so scary tbr choices for #screamathon2020 Realistically I‘ll only read 2-3 books from the pile but after a couple of tweaks this will also become my October book spin. Looking forward to reading some seasonal cozy reads! 🍂🎃
This book didn't feel quite as creepy to me as the first one in the series. Still creepy, just not as. I enjoyed it quite a bit though. We got more perspective from one of the other main characters and I enjoyed that. The next book isn't coming out until next year some time and Katherine Arden said she was working on it earlier this year, so I guess I'll have to wait. Over all a great series so far.
This was just as fun as the first one with that strong Goosebumps vibe and a cute story. If you want something fun for a younger audience and a spooky vibe, this is perfect!
#22 Small Spaces was so spooky good that I can‘t wait any longer to read this one. I was going to save it for October but I don‘t have that kind of self control 😆
Sequel to Small Spaces! I liked this adventure even better than the first one!
Based on the opening, this seems like a very appropriate choice for a cold, snowy day!
Dead Voices is the second book in the Small Spaces series, and while it may be Middle Grade, it's creepy as hell! Like the first book, Ollie, Coco and Brian find themselves in danger and need to work together to survive. Coco gets to shine most in this book, and I really enjoyed her smarts and spunk! Book 2 of 2020, and my first finished #audiobook!
My first audiobook of the year! I'm listening while I try to organize all my clothes. So many clothes. Sigh.
Another great book from K Arden, Loved small spaces and this one was/is great too. 5/5
Thank you @penguinkids for letting me a part of #WickedReads! If you haven't already read this spooky series, I HIGHLY recommend it! It would make a great Halloween gift for the young reader in your life who likes to be scared! ❄️ 🎃

Such a fun, cozy, and perfectly creepy book! I adore this series and can‘t wait for the next installment! While it might be middle grade, it is wonderfully atmospheric and so very chilling! I also adore the character of Coco ❤️
Yep, finished this one in less than a day also, right before flying back to Maryland from Indiana. Left this one with my mom, too. 😁 Can‘t wait to see what Happens next with Ollie, Coco and Brian!
So excited to begin this book!❤️🍁🎃🧙🏻♀️
Another good, creepy story from Katherine Arden. A creepy orphanage turned ski lodge, a mysterious storm, taxidermied animals that move, ghosts, an unexpected visitor...Ollie, Coco, and Brian thought they escaped the Smiling Man in October, but there‘s much more to come.
Today‘s library #bookhaul just for me! The library actually ordered Dead Voices on my request, and I‘m excited to get to read it first. They also ordered two Mermaid Tales books at my daughter‘s request (to replace copies that walked off) and we picked those up today at a different branch. We hit up two libraries and a used bookstore today (nothing from the store, though)!
I liked Small Spaces so much that I got the sequel, Dead Voices, from the library and I liked it even better than the first one. This time Ollie and two friends go on a skiing trip over winter break. The hotel, they are told, used to be a school, but they weren‘t filled in on some backstory of the creepy happenings until they are snowed in and it‘s too late to leave. It‘s up to Ollie and her friends to solve the mystery. Freaky & fun!
Dead Voices gave me the chills, and not just because the ski lodge was freezing. The second book in Katherine Arden's middle grade series was just as good as Small Spaces, possibly even better. Ollie, Coco, and Brian are back again in a creepy story that reminded me of Goosebumps mixed with Are You Afraid of the Dark? & The Shining. I absolutely loved it. I hear there's going to be 2 more books in this series to round out the remaining seasons. 🤞
The follow up to small spaces. Another creepy, spine tingling tale aimed for young reader's but can be enjoyed by all. This time friends Ollie, Coco and Brian are spending the winter break with their parents at a ski resort. They are forced to spend the time indoors as a snowstorm sets in. Coco is convinced that she keeps seeing a ghost. Along with a mysterious stranger they investigate the eerie happenings. Dead voices is a creepy good follow up.
I loved Small Spaces by Katherine Arden and thanks to Netgalley I‘m currently breezing through Dead Voices and loving it. It has the feel of a classic ghost story and I love love love Ollie, Coco and Brian. They‘re my 3 Musketeers and need to be best bros forever.

This is the sequel to small space. I am hoping to maybe talk the #MGBuddyRead into doing book one this october. I have heard great things about both books.

I am a 29-year-old woman and I love Katherine Arden's middle grade scary stories. I'm soooo excited for this book! 'Small Spaces' delighted my little Halloween lovin' soul...
