Such a interesting book. I don‘t know how to explain it. The form was so cool and kept me reading since the sections were so small. I loved the letter form. The way he wrote, leaving some mysteries for the reader to think about, was so awesome. The form really did a good job of portraying Charlie‘s mental health. Overall a really deep, thoughtful read.

This was one of my favorite books in high school. I think it came out my junior or senior year and a bunch of my friends read it. It really reminded us of us. I‘m heading back to my HS for my 20 year reunion next month and listened to the audio as a refresh of the infinite feeling of youth. In enjoyed the narrator, he felt like the voice Charlie should have. The 20 year follow up letter from the main character was heartwarming.

I was not the target age for this when it was released, but it was a fave of former students. I found it to be an innovative and goodhearted book.

In the late Spring of 2010 I went into a bookstore in NYC. On a table with suggestions for #Summerreads was #thecatcherintherye a book I wanted to read and was looking for if remembering correctly. Right next to it was a book I had never heard of but which caught my eye. I read the first page and bought #theperksofbeingawallflower as well. This became a favourite of mine. Do you have a #favourite you've found looking for another?

I read this book early in the year, before I started Litsy, and it was too impactful on my life to not write a review here. It‘s a heartbreaking coming-of-age story with a main character I relate to so much that it physically hurt at times. It lacks the usual cringe found in novels like these and instead has a dreadful and tragic but realistic plot and ending.

Book 25

I listened to The Perks of Being a Wallflower, a book I should have read by now. It's a coming of age story about a high school boy who struggles with depression. Similar to the movie made after it, the book reads like an iconic 80s film. 3.5 stars

We FINALLY finished!! It was the most beautiful book I‘ve ever read and it had a twentieth anniversary letter from Charlie, which to be honest had me crying in the back of my car. I‘m so thankful to have bought it, if you haven‘t read it, do so, you must definitely willing be disappointed. No matter what kind of books you like, this book is perfect!

GondorGirl I remember reading this when it first came out and being stunned. And I still feel that way rereading it now. 10mo

Charlie writes letters to an unknown person during his freshman year of high school.

I had seen the movie many years ago (I honestly don‘t remember much about it) and I was just expecting some coming of age book, but man, this was intense and crazy and good.

I do not like Sam at all, and definitely a dude wrote this book. That‘s all I will write because I forgot how to hide spoilers.

What an eye opener this book was. It was written from the perspective of a teenager who was going through many of the things I remember going through when I was his age. It really brought me back. Some of the thing he went through had the potential of negatively impacting his life. I hope that this book finds its way to the many young (and not so young) people who would benefit from reading it. It sends a great message.

I‘m really not sure how I feel about child abuse being used as a “big twist” in a novel, but… for all its problems, I couldn‘t stop thinking about it. Chbosky and Charlie‘s story really got under my skin. Of course, this should serve as a huge stinky trigger warning, but for those of us who can stomach it, this is a book that will stay with you. I walked over to the hill where we used to go and sled. There were a lot of little kids there. I watched them flying. Doing jumps and having races. And I thought that all those little kids are going to grow up someday. And all of those little kids are going to do the things that we do. And they will all kiss someone someday. But for now, sledding is enough. I think it would be great if sledding were always enough, but it isn't.

Read this one cause despite the hype, I‘ve never read it before. Made me uncomfortable to read and maybe that was the point. I appreciate the effort to cover really tough topics from a young perspective. However, it‘s really not super believable and slightly cliche. Kind of enjoyed reading it but really just wanted to get through it.

Revisited this one for our Friends of the Library read. It made me nostalgic for when my daughter and I read it when she was Charlie‘s age. A perennial candidate for censor in many communities, it is uncomfortable to read in places. It was, however, an invaluable conversation starter for some seriously tough topics when my daughter was young. I will always have special place for this book in my heart.
