I was reluctant to listen to this with Trix, as I think she is probably too young for the concept. But as soon as we started we were both engrossed. I do find it alarming how easily children accept violent concepts - 24 children placed in an arena to fight to the death is barbaric and horrifying to me. But in fact, apart from Kato‘s death, it is not overly gory. And the gross inequalities do raise interesting discussions.

Picked this up for a re-read. I loved it the second time too. I think the story is absolutely riveting. My biggest complaint is that it‘s not YA. Even though the heroine is a teenager, I think the book is way more adult.

Thanks to the movie and my library finally getting it in stock again, time to get comfy and re-read Hunger Games.

I think the Hunger Games movie was one of the more successful first-person book narration to third-person movie narration I've seen. Using Caesar Flickerman and the other tv announcers to give the background on things like tracker jackers instead of Katniss telling the audience worked really well.

I recently re-read this book and I have to say, it still holds up. This was a very inspiring and exciting book back in High School and though as an adult I can see that this was written for a young adult audience and is at times unrealistic, I still found it very entertaining and intriguing. There‘s definitely a reason this series was so popular. #challenge

This is my second reading of the book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. It‘s such a fast pace book and each chapter is a cliffhanger. I read it in less then a week, because you don‘t want to put it down. It does make you think about the parallels of Panem and our current world too. I‘ve watched the movies for years and never read the books until now. To be honest, the film took liberties with the characters, Katniss, especially but both were great in their own way. On to Catching Fire!

This book is one of my favorites. I think for older grades it could be interesting to read and discuss different topics. For example they may analyze the book to try and determine why Panem was created. You could also discuss cause and effect, as well as many other lessons.

Published 2008. This is set in a dystopian world. The country has been split into 13 districts. Twelve districts are to send one boy and girl each year to fight to the death in something called the Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen embarks on a journey through these games, fighting to survive, fighting to get back at the Capitol, and fighting to love.

I read this to my son, admittedly I‘ve already seen the movies bc I‘m not much for YA. I enjoyed it, though and loved how captivated he was in certain spots. And even though I knew what was going to happen, I still teared up.

People aren‘t kidding when they say this is a book that you literally CANNOT put down. The Hunger Games pulled me into its world and I was captivated from beginning to end. I can‘t believe I hadn‘t read it sooner and I urge you to do so if you haven‘t already.

I‘m reading this to my 10 yo son, and I‘m surprised to say it‘s better than I expected! I‘d heard mixed reviews and am not a huge fan of YA. We‘re not yet halfway, but are cruising right along and I‘m enjoying it. He even stops the Lego battles to listen (he always has battles when I read to him yet remembers every word).

My favorite camp activity as a kid was archery. The precision, patience, and focus needed have always appealed to my perfectionist tendencies, and it‘s just plain fun! Would love to spend my day in the quiet of the forest and a bow (and NOT in a Hunger Games arena).

In other news, I‘m halfway finished with my #litsysummercampreadathon goal since I finished The Thorn Birds last night. 😍

For there to be betrayal, there would have to have been trust first

So happy to finally have one of my favorite trilogies on my bookshelf! I have the feeling a reread of the Hunger Games is in my future 😂

The Hunger Games❤
So, I am done with the first part of the trilogy.
The book talks about the unique games played amongst 12 districts. Wanna know what happens in those fatal games? Just go grab the book and start reading. The book will hook you till the very end and would definitely force you to quickly grab the second part of the triology i.e. 'Catching Fire'. The language is simple and the characters and the storyline very interesting.

5/5⭐️ This was both the first fantasy and the first English book I read, as a thirteen year old! I was sooo blown away by the story that I read the whole series first in Swedish and directly afterwards in English. Read in September 2011 and January 2012.

This is not what I thought I'd wake up to. I've never felt so angry, scared, & helpless. I'm not sure what I can do, but I know where I'll start. I'll continue to read those things that challenge me & help me speak confidently & competently on those things I haven't personally experienced. I will read about racism, sexism, & feminism. And I know Litsy will be there to help push me outside my comfort zone.

Took my older boy to camp today; as we gathered his supplies this week, he obsessed over which single book he wanted to take with him. So, I've successfully brought another reader into the world: winning at the mom thing 😉
